Category:Images with no copyright tag edit

Hey, I saw your note on ANB a couple weeks ago. I'd like to help out with the backlog at Category:Images with no copyright tag, but I'm a brand new admin without much image experience, and therefore timid about deleting stuff and whatnot, since I'm afraid I'll mess something up. Do you have any advice about how to proceed? Thanks much, delldot talk 05:12, 3 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks a ton for the awesome advice. I hope you'll let me know if I make any missteps! Peace, delldot talk 15:38, 3 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

close edit

The least controversial approach might be to simply leave a note at the very top of the page stating in some fashion that the show's over because Jimbo asked Essjay to resign. So further endorsements, commentary, and such should be carefully considered to be sure they'll be productive in light of this event. An actual close is going to be a mess right now, but people would likely respect a gentle suggestion to leave well enough alone. Derex 07:57, 3 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Excellent summary about Essjay edit

It's too bad we can't place your comment in big bold letters on the top of all the pages discussing this. It really hits the nail on the head. It's the best summary I've heard about the situation so far. -- Ned Scott 02:53, 4 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Indiana Jones edit

Can you explain why you've removed the old Indiana Jones picture from the Indiana Jones page? You claim it was a redlink - it appears the picture has been deleted - by you? If so for what reason? Mikejstevenson 04:13, 6 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Have just confirmed that it was you that deleted the picture. Presumably you are planning to delete every other picture in the article as well? The character of Indiana Jones has been portrayed by numerous people, and it's perfectly reasonable (and fair) use to have a picture of each in the article that relates to that character. In the same way, the Jack O'Neill article has a picture of Kurt Russell. In the Batman article, there are pictures of both Adam West and Christian Bale.

If you're adamant that, in your view, the Elderly Indiana Jones picture has no place in the article about the character, I really don't see why a picture of Harrison Ford should be there either. After all, the article is about the character, not the films. The way I see this, you have two options.

a) be reasonable, replace the picture. b) Delete every single picture in the article (and then go about vandalising every other character article on Wikipedia in the same way).

Which is it going to be?Mikejstevenson 04:28, 6 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

OK - now I understand. People like you are actually detrimental to this site - a drain to the community. You contribute nothing - in fact, less. You're not interested in discussion, neither are you interested in justifying your decisions. You couldn't care less about having any logical reason for your actions, neither do you feel it necessary to be open to being questioned about them. You are nothing more than a vandal - the only difference being that you actually seem to enjoy being open about it.

You know perfectly well that your action has invalidated a section of the article, without good reason. You know perfectly well that I have a valid point, but, being the person you are, you take pleasure from the fact that you aren't forced to listen.

Never mind. Enjoy the rush this vandalism gives you. Mikejstevenson 05:18, 6 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Look Teke, say whatever you like, but the bottom line is this - if you think it's not fair use to include a picture of a portrayer of a character within the article about that character, then you've got a lot of work to do. Can I suggest you start by deleting any pictures of Roger Moore from the James Bond page? Mikejstevenson 06:22, 6 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

My question in the Admins' noticeboard edit

Hello,

Thank you for answering me in the admins' noticeboard about my question. I apologize for having put the question there, I didn't know where to put it. I will do as you suggest: create the modifed article in my own userspace, then ask for the others contributoirs if they agree with the new version. Then I'll propose it as a featured article.

The article I want to rewrite is about Rene Guenon.

Thanks again,

Move request of Karlovy Vary edit

The result of the proposal was no consensus, not moved. is nor correct, 15:5 is consensus to keep. That statement might force somebody to think there was no consensus and try to move it again. ≈Tulkolahten≈≈talk≈ 11:02, 10 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Images edit

Hey. Thanks for the offer to help, but they're all tagged. I'm not sure why you're removing some of the tags, such as PUI-disputed; we need to be able to demonstrate that an image is actually in the public domain, not just assume it is because it looks old, and it needs to be sourced in any case. Can you explain why you're doing that? Jkelly 01:19, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oh, are you planning on deleting them all? I was just going to leave them in the various deletion queues I put them in. Jkelly 01:24, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Deleting all of the ones that are obvious enough to apply WP:CSD G12 is fine by me. I suppose that means that I wasted some time by not being, um, bold enough to just do that myself when I was looking at them. Jkelly 01:31, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for nominating me. I added my answers. The page needs only to be transcluded in RfA. --Meno25 19:48, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

My RfA edit

  • Thanks for voting in my RfA. I've decided to withdraw my acceptance because of real WP:CIVIL concerns. I will try again later when I've proven to myself and others that my anger will no longer interfere with my abilities as a Wikipedia editor. Thanks again, and I'll see you around here shortly. :) JuJube 04:44, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

A difference of opinion on copyright violation edit

On the talk page, the creator claimed that s/he is the author of the text and owner of the website, so I believed it failed the requirement of "Uploader does not assert permission" on WP:CSD#General_criteria. I guess you deleted under "the assertion is questionable" part of the requirement. Beyond WP:AGF, there is really nothing to back up the claim that s/he on the website, so I don't really see anything wrong with the deletion. I actually quite like Mgm's approach on the article's talk page, although Mgm should probably have cross posted it on the contributor's talk page. I could have gone either way with the deletion, so I figured it was best to let someone else take a look. --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 05:29, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

RE Email edit

I'll enable email tomorrow (I've only just seen your message and don't have the time now) but my email address is walton.monarchist@hotmail.com. I disabled it the other day since I hadn't checked that email account for months (it's not the same as the one I use for non-Wikipedia stuff). But you can email me on the address above and I'll pick it up tomorrow. Walton Vivat Regina! 18:43, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, ignore the above email address, it doesn't work. The one to use is walton_m@hotmail.co.uk, which I have now enabled in my Special:Preferences. If you've sent the email already, please re-send it. Sorry! Walton Vivat Regina! 17:17, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

why the deletion? edit

i don't understand why coastalbeat.com was deleted. all those things are true and many if not most publications have entries. that article should exist, as it is a noteworthy web site, i guess just with different info or tone or something? Does it need to be more thorough? i just don't get it Knowitall33 04:39, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

It is true that there are many such articles simply providing information on something. What we are trying to do here, however, is build an encyclopedia. This is the reason that we have our requirements for inclusion and in my opinion, the article does not fit Wikipedia.
To explain a little more, I am an administrator. I am a janitor on Wikipedia, one of 1,200. Our job is to keep the project clean. There is no harm, no foul in you creating the article but it simply has nothing to do with Wikipedia. We are not an indiscriminate collection of information. Hundreds of times a day an article such as yours is created and is deleted because there is a popular misconception of what Wikipedia is about. Apologies for the inconvenience, you may request a deletion review but it surely would not pass. Please do explore Wikipedia and find other ways to contribute. Teke 04:44, 18 April 2007 (UTC)''Reply

i thought i addressed that. it is owned by the EW Scripps company, it has been nominated for awards by the Newspaper Association of America. That seems notable...Knowitall33 05:08, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

A very Californian RfA thanks from Luna Santin edit

Thanks for your support in my not-so-recent RfA, which succeeded with a final tally of (97/4/4)! I've never been able to accept compliments gracefully, and the heavy support from this outstanding community left me at a complete loss for words -- so, a very belated thank you for all of your kind words.

I have done and will continue to do the utmost to serve the community in this new capacity, wherever it may take me, and to set an example others might wish to follow in. With a little luck and a lot of advice, this may be enough. Maybe someday the enwiki admins of the future will look back and say, "Yeah, that guy was an admin." Hopefully then they don't start talking about the explosive ArbComm case I got tied into and oh what a drama that was, but we'll see, won't we?

Surely some of you have seen me in action by now; with that in mind, I openly invite and welcome any feedback here or here -- help me become the best editor and sysop I can be.

Again, thank you. –Luna Santin

I heard you deleted some ballet images. No source in a wikiproject template? Ouch. I'm sure I'll see you around on IRC, before too long, but I'm finally finishing most of these off. Bad Luna. – Luna Santin (talk) 00:50, 23 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Brian Brinkley edit

FYI, your prod of this NN photographer (that replaced my {{db-bio}}) has been removed without comment, and the last edit (about his charitable donations) is totally unencyclopedic, IMHO ... I'd tag it with {{notability}} or {{db-spam}}, but they'd just remove that as well ... time for an AfD??

On an unrelated matter, I'd appreciate your taking a look at The Granada Forum if you have time ... some editors think that its "notability" stems from its past speakers, since that's what most of the references are about, and any attempts to flag it have been summarily deleted ... Thnx! —68.239.79.97 (talk · contribs) 02:37, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Deletion Query edit

I see you've deleted ABCpdf. I don't think this is right because it makes sense in the context of List of PDF software and the pages that this page links to eg Amyuni, Foxit Reader. Or do you feel that the whole concept of List of PDF software is wrong within the context of WikiPedia? 203.198.29.74 02:42, 30 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
