Sig

Your sig is what some might call "distasteful." Would you mind removing the last part that's all in caps, right before the timestamp? I thought perhaps a vandal snuck in and added it, but it seems to just be a part of what you've written. Thanks. Killiondude (talk) 07:32, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

PS: What do think about my smileback template by the way?

It's nice, I'll make a few more compliments when I officially come back. The second edit you mentioned was supposed to be interwiki, because I was only talking about a problem I came across in en.wikibooks. Kayau Voting IS evil C U NEXT YEAR 05:08, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

"Two individual terms were coined."

Hello, that phrase is a bit vague... "coined" doesn't really fit in here. What is it supposed to mean? Bejinhan talks 09:42, 26 August 2010 (UTC) And yes, editing is hard to resist. :p

I am *sure* this is the last time I'll edit. :) For what it's worth, they just kind of thought up a couple of terms to describe the two different systems. Kayau Voting IS evil C U NEXT YEAR 09:50, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
Haha. But that isn't the official term, correct? I'll have to think of a more grammatically correct one. Bejinhan talks 12:17, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Adopt-a-user reminder

Hello, I have completed a general cleanup of the adopter information page for the adopt-a-user project, located here. During my cleanup, I have removed several inactive and retired users. In order to provide interested adoptees with an easy location to find adopters, it is essential that the page be up-to-date with the latest information possible. Thus:

  • If you are no longer interested in being an adopter, please remove yourself from the list.
  • If you are still interested, please check the list to see if any information needs to be updated or added - especially your availability. Thank you.
  • You are receiving this message because you are listed as an adopter here.

Wanna barnstar?

Please join!
Good morning! As we approach the launch date of the October Wikification Drive, we are seeking to recruit users who are dedicated to improving the encyclopedia. Users who participate will be awarded barnstars. Our goal is to clear 2050 articles from the backlog to leave 20,000, as well as clear 2008 entirely from the backlog. If you are interested in joining, please see the project page. If you have any questions, please direct them to the project's talkpage.

An update from adopt a user

Hi there Kayau! You may be wondering, what have I done to sound the alarm this time? Nothing. I'm messaging you in regards to the adopt-a-user program, which currently has a backlog of users wishing to be adopted. This doesn't make much sense, as we have a considerable list of users offer adoption, so there shouldn't be any backlog. I've begun to eliminate this backlog myself through a matching program, but I need your help to make it work. Of course, adoptees and adopters don't have to go through there, but I believe it helps eliminate the backlog because someone is actively matching pairs.

On the list of adopters, I have modified the middle column to say "Interests." It's easier working with other users that have similar interests, so if it's not too much to ask, could you add your interests in the middle column? For example, if I was interested in hurricanes, computers, business, and ... reptiles? I would place those in the middle column. Counter-vandalism and the like can also be included (maintenance should be used as the general term). The more interests, the better, since adoptees can learn more about you and choose the one they feel most comfortable working with. The information about when you're most active and other stuff can go into the "Notes" section to the right.

Finally, I've gone around and asked adoptees (and will in the future) to fill in a short survey so adopters can take the initiative and contact users they feel comfortable working with. We all know that most adoptees just place the adopt me template on their user page and leave it - so it's up to us to approach them and offer adoption. So, please take a look at the survey, adopt those that fit your interests, and maybe watchlist it so you can see the interests of adoptees and adopt one that fits your interests in the future.

Once again, thank you for participating in the adopt-a-user program! If you wish to respond to this post, please message me on my talk page.

Deleting read messages

I read your message about deleting read messages, and deleted it, because I have read it. I am aware of the common practice, but the Wikipedia:talk page guidelines#User talk pages say that "users may freely remove comments from their own talk pages". In this case it is best to do so, because all the IP addresses I use are shared ones, and if a message was left behind, another user of the IP address might assume it was intended for them. (And no, I am not going to register a user name.) Thank you for your concern. --208.76.104.144 (talk) 16:47, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

Well, in List of bus routes in Hong Kong, it says in the Cross-Harbour routes that special routes are not included, but there are so many special routes! The question is: should I keep puuting new routes in (I had put in 3), or delete all, or question the adder of this sentence(the 'view history list' is too long), or what?Jonathanho727 (talk) 09:20, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Do you have a citation for the proposition that his original name was Feng Yuanyi? If so, please put it in. (I don't see the name in the sources that I use.) Thanks. --Nlu (talk) 05:33, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Cited Kayau Voting IS evil 05:54, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, but in nature of the type of source that this used (a blog), I think I have to consider it not sufficiently reliable. I am going to remove the assertion of the name of Feng Yuanyi ("Feng" is not controversial, but I see no reliable source citing "Yuanyi"). Please feel free to discuss further on Talk:Gao Lishi and hopefully see if other people will view the assertion in the blog post as sufficiently reliable. (It should be noted that WP:RS says that blogs are generally considered not reliable.) --Nlu (talk) 06:06, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Fan Zhen

Kayau, I reverted your additions of Fan Zhen to the atheist lists because you were using a primary source as proof, but it would be impossible for Zhen to have actually called himself an "atheist" or discussed directly his "atheism" so named. What we need to add them back are good secondary or tertiary sources that refer to him as an atheist. I have no problem with the addition if it is sourced historically in that manner. In fact from a brief search it appears that is might be possible to do so. But please don't add him back until it is done in that manner. Thanks.Griswaldo (talk) 14:26, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I'm not sure what you mean. I used a reliable secondary source that states that atheism was introduced in his work, although it doesn't say whether he is actually an atheist (and I'm pretty sure they hadn't invented the word 'atheist' during the Southern Dynasty. :P) Does that violate WP:RS or something? (BTW: you were way off my 5 seconds prediction LOL) Kayau Voting IS evil 13:25, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
Well then I misunderstood. Since you didn't use quotation marks when you wrote "Atheism was introduced in his work, On the Annihilation of the Soul," and since the reference was completely in Chinese I wrongly assumed the reference was to On the Annihilation of the Soul itself. That said, what you would need is a historian calling him an atheist, and not simply referring to the theme of one of his works. Yes the term atheism wasn't in use at that period, but that won't stop historians from making those kinds of retrospective judgments. Find that at you're all set.Griswaldo (talk) 13:33, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
That's easy. This source should do. Kayau Voting IS evil 13:46, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
A Chinese language newspaper isn't exactly ideal. I'm not going to revert you, but for a historical figure like this someone with scholarly familiarity would be best here.Griswaldo (talk) 14:53, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Truth about residents of Cambridge and Boston, MA

If this is a discussion then it should be open to everyone logging on from Cambridge, sure there are many great about Cambridge but there many issues that not on the internet or television. How about people that live in Cambridge come on this web page and talk about their experience in Cambridge. Who we are as a society, who reside amongst, are we misrepresented and suppressed as a voice? It is unfair that only a few are allowed to post information over other others. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.31.30.17 (talk) 15:28, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jacky Wong

Would you take a look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jacky Wong and see if you can help improve Jacky Wong? I've added some information from the sources I've read, but there is more that can be said about this actor. And would provide feedback for this edit (excise, rewrite, or expand the newly added paragraph)? Thanks, Cunard (talk) 10:51, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

I'll see what I can do. Kayau Voting IS evil 14:28, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
I've looked at sources, and I believe it's quite probable that Wong is simply not notable enough. Most of the news articles are about the conflict. Also, the paragraph you added may not be that NPOV, as I've read in an article that Mung claimed that the crying was just an act. Kayau Voting IS evil 15:04, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for your valuable comments at the AfD. I've added links to the AfD to another source I've found. About the paragraph I added: Which source provides additional information about Mung's assertion that the crying was only an act? I'll add that to the article to make it more NPOV. Cunard (talk) 00:43, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
My mistake. It turns out that it was Wong's mother who admitted that the crying was an act. According to her, he cried under the request of a magazine reporter. Kayau Voting IS evil 10:14, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
I've removed most of the paragraph for now. I'm worried that it might violate WP:UNDUE since it doesn't represent all the perspectives. Would you provide a link to that source? I'll add it in to the article on 19 January. Cunard (talk) 10:45, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
I can't find the original source or even the publisher, but it's archived here. I'll tell you when I find the original thing. Kayau Voting IS evil 10:51, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Hm, this information seems to be a different incident (Bobby Au-yeung is not involved in this one, which seems to be mostly about Yoyo Mung). The conflicting, confusing perspectives on both stories make it a headache to include them in the article while ensuring that they are balanced and neutral. Cunard (talk) 11:20, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Then it looks like I was confused. You may want to add the paragraph back (though I am still sceptical about his notability). Kayau Voting IS evil 14:15, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
I've thought about this for a while, and have decided not to restore it. It might violate WP:BLPGOSSIP, which states "Avoid repeating gossip. Ask yourself whether the source is reliable; whether the material is being presented as true; and whether, even if true, it is relevant to a disinterested article about the subject." I think that this text could be classified as gossip. What do you think? Cunard (talk) 00:00, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
I'm not sure, but I think it's one of those times when the media report something because it's interesting and/or they have nothing else to report. Kayau Voting IS evil 10:16, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
To be one the safe side, I'll default to not including the content. You're probably right that the magazine article was written because it was a slow news day, though I don't think that subtracts much from the source aiding him in passing GNG. Cunard (talk) 00:27, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

No problem. Just try not to start bureaucratic processes here on WP without being sure. I mean, I understand what you touth, you had doubts about that issue and you probably touth that someone else would know the exact policies to use on the PfD process you initiated, but after all, the WP policies are avaliable for all of us, and senior editors like us can also pefectly use them acording to each situaton. In other words, the policies are there for us to read them and interpret them without having to ask someone else to do it for us. When I find myself in that kind of situation I usually try to ask someone to help me first, otherwise you are creating a problem when you are not even sure if a problem really exists. I apologise as well for being a bit hard on you on this, and I supose your intention was good, so I just want to send you regards and to tell you that you can freely poke me if I can help you in any way. :) FkpCascais (talk) 15:23, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

食碗麵反碗底。< /big> — Preceding unsigned comment added by 一起 (talkcontribs) 08:40, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

If you are whom I think you are, please be aware that I'm sorry. I mistakenly assumed bad faith based on your history. Congratulations on your recent unblock; I know you are an awesome contributor of Wikipedia and its sister projects.
If you are not, please state whom you are. thank you. Kayau Voting IS evil 13:52, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

你為什麼不講中文? 我看到了你頁面分類,Zh-4 使用者 說你講中文。一起講,好嗎? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 一起 (talkcontribs) 21:49, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

對不起,沒想到您想用中文溝通,因為這兒是英文維基百科。 Kayau Voting IS evil 11:58, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

没關係,我不喜歡英文,是很費解的也很拗口的,所以講中文。看到你在這裏的行為,我覺得你真是食碗麵反碗底的,希望你好好學做人。 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 一起 (talkcontribs) 22:49, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

好的。 Kayau Voting IS evil 12:08, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

不好!你没有努力付出時間來檢討。

請問我該如何檢討? Kayau Voting IS evil 13:19, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

MOTD Special nomination for Easter Sunday 24 April 2011

Yes, I know I'm a bit late with this, but it would be very nice if we could have this nomination approved for next Sunday 24 April 2011. Please help, if you have a moment. Thank you, and happy Easter to you and your family!!! All the best. –pjoef (talkcontribs) 09:21, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

MOTD's State of Emergency + 1st of May's Motto

As you probably already know, we are facing some problems at MOTD. I am personally monitoring all the nominations on a daily basis and I'm finding very difficult to aprove the motto for the next day. The number of nominations has grown significantly, but even then it seems not enough. Please, if you have time, take a look at the nominations. And, if you like some of them but you think they are not good enough for being approved because of the set of links or and etcetera, please, try to improve them where it is possible. At this rate, I fear that we will see the end of the project. Thanks in advance.
I have also added a special nomination for this Sunday, 1st of May (International Workers' Day or May Day). Please, take a look at it if you can.
All the best. –pjoef (talkcontribs) 15:04, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

P.S.: I'm sorry to bother you again, but take a look at this if you can. Once again, thank you. –pjoef (talkcontribs) 18:26, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Make prompting for a missing edit summary the default

Whilst I do not wish to continue discussion of a failed proposal, I do feel - as "proposer (sort of)" - you will be interested in my comments on User talk:NuclearWarfare#Make prompting for a missing edit summary the default - in that, I think it would be a pity if the entire debate disappeared. (I will also notify Lambian of this). Cheers,  Chzz  ►  03:26, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Mother's Day 2011 or 2012

Okay, I'm here again to bother you (again and again... sorry). Things seem to go much better at MOTD, right now. THANK YOU!!!
The reason why I'm writing you is the following: next Sunday (8th of May) is Mother's Day. I know that it is celebrated on different days around the world, but I'd love if we could (and are able to) make our "very-little" contribution in honour of all the mothers in the world. For the upcoming 8th of May (Sunday) there is already a motto in schedule, but I think that we can move the motto approved for that day to another date and to put one about mothers in place of it. Here is my nomination.
Thank you in advance and all the best! –pjoef (talkcontribs) 12:52, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Hong Kong statistics

Hi,
You offered a reward on the Wikipedia:Reward Board for statistics on employment in Hong Kong in the 1960s...?
I've done some deep digging, and found few numbers - none of which look particularly trustworthy. The problem is best summarised by this paper: "Until the 1970s, Hong Kong’s Government collected as few statistics as possible" - and Clayton's "Labour–Intensive Industrialization in Hong Kong, 1950–70: A Note on Sources and Methods" says much the same.
Obviously censtatd.gov.hk is no use, but there are various third-party papers which try to analyse the subject. Where details have been recorded they're subject to all kinds of regulatory quirks. A department's records will usually be partial because only businesses meeting certain criteria had to register with the department - for example, the CID has records which captured employment in businesses which had to apply for export permits, and the Labour Department has some information on employment in businesses that operated potentially-dangerous machinery or employed women & children. What exactly are you after? If there's a particular area of an article you'd like to improve, or a point that you want to support, let me know and I'll try to find something specific. bobrayner (talk) 14:14, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

Happy to email you some journal articles &c if you want. bobrayner (talk) 14:24, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
Here are 1960 figures taken from an Industry Department paper:
Industry % of manufacturing employment % of exports
Clothing 23.8 35.2
Electronics 0.1 0.0
Plastics 8.3 9.1
Textiles 24.4 19.3
Toys 3.3 4.0
Watches & Clocks 1.1 0.6
Other 39 31.8
You can cite it like this:
{{Cite book | title = Hong Kong's Manufacturing Industries | publisher = Industry Department, government of [[Hong Kong]] | year = 1995 | pages = 32 | language = English}}
Have fun! bobrayner (talk) 14:59, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
If you can get hold of a copy of Yu's "Entrepreneurship and economic development in Hong Kong", that should be even better (other writers cite it, specifically mentioning the tables of historic employment stats), but I can't get a copy here. bobrayner (talk) 15:19, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

This message is being sent to you because you have previously edited the Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English) page. There is currently a discussion that may result in a significant change to Wikipedia policy. Specifically, a consensus is being sought on if the policies of WP:UCN and WP:EN continues to be working policies for naming biographical articles, or if such policies have been replaced by a new status quo. This discussion is on-going at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (use English), and your comments would be appreciated. Dolovis (talk) 17:34, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

Goodbye

  The Original Barnstar
No, I didn't forget you - if you do still check this page, then goodbye Kayau. Enjoy this barnstar (which you more than deserve!) Have a good time whatever you're doing! I guess it'll just be me sailing the boat on Wikipedia for the teenagers - I'll miss knowing there's someone else my age out there on Wikipedia. WVRMadTalkGuestbook 20:32, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

"Straight to the principal’s room I went
And said some words which were well meant
I shouted WP:NOBIGDEAL
And off I went, for I was on a WP:WB!
And a rhyme break, too!"

Thanks for everything Kayau. Best of wishes, WVRMadTalkGuestbook 20:38, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
