Review Request for Draft:David Friend

Hello John B123, I wanted to request a review for AfC Submission Draft:David Friend. Please help me review the article and let me know if there are any more changes required to draft. It is my first biography draft. Thanks--JakePeraltaB99 (talk) 02:54, 25 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi, JakePeraltaB99. I've had a look at the article and made a few minor changes, mainly to the references. My only concern is that David Friend may not meet the criteria of WP:GNG or WP:ANYBIO. Regards --John B123 (talk) 09:19, 25 July 2020 (UTC)

Hello John B123, I thought that before and when I checked, the notability states that either of the following can establish notability:

  • The person has received a well-known and significant award or honor, or has been nominated for such an award several times.
  • The person has made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in a specific field.
  • The person has an entry in the Dictionary of National Biography or similar publication.

And David Friend receiving the Proclamation for David Friend Day, also being a serial entrepreneur where his products are used for widely recognized artists and tv shows should fit in this category - "The person has received a well-known and significant award or honor, or has been nominated for such an award several times." He is also the chairman, board member and is widely recognized. Please tell me where am I going wrong and how can I fix it?--JakePeraltaB99 (talk) 10:00, 25 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi, JakePeraltaB99. You're not doing anything wrong, apart from the notability the article is fine. I'm not sure if "David Friend Day" is well-known and significant, a search on Google for that term didn't bring up any results. Personally, I think that cumulatively his activities make him notable, but the guidelines are based more on single instances. However, biography notability is not really my area of expertise. I see you have submitted the draft for AfC review, perhaps the editor who reviews it there can give more guidance. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 10:42, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
User:JakePeraltaB99 - Why did you move the draft into article space and then back into draft space? Robert McClenon (talk) 18:58, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
Hello Robert McClenon, I am extremely sorry about it. This is my first article and I am still learning and exploring Wikipedia. I was checking out options and moved it by mistake. I thought move option was to move in folders so I did that. When I saw it became an article, I changed it back. I apologize for the mistake, wont happen again.--JakePeraltaB99 (talk) 01:01, 26 July 2020 (UTC)

Airports

Hello John!
Thanks for reviewing my article Shella Airport. I had earlier created another article Jogbani Airport and I think that you can review that article also.
Thanks--YashPratap1912 (talk) 15:13, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi YashPratap1912. Thanks for the articles you have created, I've reviewed Jogbani Airport. Regards --John B123 (talk) 16:25, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Armando Monteiro (footballer, born 1950)

Hello, I am the user that created the page Armando Monteiro (footballer, born 1950). I got a notification saying you reviewed it. Does this mean my article is officially on the Wikipedia main space? Also, how come my article is not indexed into Wikipedia yet? Does this take a little bit of time? Thank you for answering my questions. Paul Vaurie (talk) 20:40, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi Paul Vaurie. The articles are always in mainspace, but until they have had a new page review Google doesn't index them. Once reviewed, Google finds them and they usually appear in search result with a couple of days. Regards --John B123 (talk) 20:49, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

Kano Sultans (Bugaya, Muhammad Kisoki, Kanta Kotal, Tsamiya, Usmanu Zamnagawa, Abdullahi Burja, Bugaya, El Kutumbi, Kanajeji)

Hi John, thanks for the review. I have added references to the suggested pages as recommended. However, the Kano Chronicle is the holy grail for the history of Kano because it is a compilation of various works and accounts, the events of which have been scrutinized by various historians and corroborated by multiple other credible Sahelian sources like the Borno Girgam and the Tarikh Al Sudan. All other works on Kano refer to or from the Kano Chronicle. I reckon quality over quantity should be used when judging the credibility of listed sources but I have obliged to your request nonetheless. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Screledrus (talkcontribs) 06:32, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi Screledrus. The quality of references is very important. Whilst in this case Kano Chronicle is the best source, in other cases there is a danger of an unreliable source causing the article to be incorrect if a single source is used hence the recomendation for more than one source. Another point is that when I first looked at the articles, there were paragraphs/sections that were not referenced. Even if you have 3 paragraphs based on the same source, adding the same reference to all three shows that they are sourced. Just adding the reference to the last paragraph makes the other two look unreferenced. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 07:24, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for reviewing the Wylfa Newydd nuclear power station page that i have made. It is a work in progress currently.

Here are some more pages that i have created and you might like to look at:

Bradwell B nuclear power station, Sizewell C nuclear power station, Moorside clean energy hub

P.S. I am increasingly becoming annoyed by someone who edits the pages as well as me as they tend to remove chunks of the page and then say to re do it, or it is not relevant despite it being relevant to both it and another project. They then often do not fix the section, leaving it up to me. What should i do about this? Alex Berrow (talk) 21:22, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi Alex. I've reviewed Bradwell B nuclear power station, the other two have already been reviewed. Some of the other editor's changes are valid (compliance with WP:MOS, combining refs etc) but others are just a different personal viewpoint. I would suggest you undo the changes you disagree with with an edit summary along the lines of: Please discuss on talk page as per WP:BRD Regards --John B123 (talk) 22:00, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi @Vexations:. I didn't create the page but did review it. I don't have access to Eberhart, but a Google search of any/all of the 3 sentences in the stub doesn't bring up any matches. If you have a copy/access to Eberhart and it is a copyvio then please mark the article as such. Regards --John B123 (talk) 21:36, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
John B123, it's a widely pirated text. I can't link to it obviously, but I'd have to go though all the OPs submissions to check. More to follow on their talk page soon, I think. Vexations (talk) 21:51, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Internet censorship topic

Hi. Internet censorship topic is Semi-protection and I can't add information about internet shutdown in Iran, at the Shutdowns part of the topic. It's link of the topic: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_censorship

There are some useful things about Iran internet shutdown, you can help me to add (only two or three sentence is enough): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019–2020_Iranian_protests#Internet_shutdown

♡Thanks HappyBird6858 (talk) 13:02, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi HappyBird6858. The last line of the Internet shutdowns section of Internet censorship is The Iranian government imposed a total internet shutdown from 16 to 23 November, 2019, in response to the fuel protests and is linked to the article 2019 Internet blackout in Iran. I'm not sure much more is needed in Internet censorship? Regards --John B123 (talk) 17:03, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

New Airport- Shirpur Airstrip created!

Hello John,
With immense pleasure, I want to notify you that I have also created the Shirpur Airstrip article which was requested on Wikiproject India.
And by that, my aim of creating all articles on the requested page is complete. I hope you will review my article. Looking forward to contributing more to Wikipedia! Thanks--YashPratap1912(CONT.) 14:57, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi YashPratap1912. I did look at the article yesterday and had concerns over the notability. However, if it's a requested page at WP India, I'm assuming somebody with greater (local) knowledge that me has already assessed it as being notable enough for inclusion. The article just needs to be added to some categories. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 17:11, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for your review John. I also had the same concern regarding notability. But I created the article only because it was requested. YashPratap1912(CONT.) 17:40, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

Kiribati Law

It was just a mistake: I had no intent about an article with that name, it was just a better category page, more correct than Existing « I-Kiribati law » category. But could you avoid to put on my discussion page automatically written paragraphs that not seem to have anything to do with my mistake? I am not a dangerous vandal but a normal user that could be wrong sometimes. Avoid to repeat that, please.--Arorae (talk) 18:12, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi Arorae. We all make mistakes from time to time so that's not a problem. When we see a new page with no content, we have no idea of the circumstances leading to it's creation. In this case it was by mistake, but on other occasions the editor may intend to add content shortly. I think it's only courteous to let the creator know what is happening. Regards --John B123 (talk) 18:23, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
thanks for your very kind reply. Immediate deletion could be the right solution. Regards.—-Arorae (talk) 20:02, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for the uncategorized tagging

It seems that categorizing is the one thing I forget to do. Without you, the articles I have made would go uncategorized for eternity. Hopefully I won't need your assistance next time but thanks for the help! Muttnick (talk) 00:28, 31 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi Muttnick. No problem, it's easily overlooked. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 15:50, 31 July 2020 (UTC)

Reviewing of the page Shameel Chembakath

I got notification regarding you reviewing the page Shameel Chembakath (Association football manager) .But I didnt know what happened.Actually what happened? Please explain Shahoodu (talk) 01:54, 31 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi Shahoodu Hi. The notification is part of the New Page Curation process. The "review" is primarily to weed out unencyclopedic new pages and also to ensure new pages meet a minimum standard (are referenced, added to categories etc). There is no written review as such and if there are any shortcomings on the page then a suitable tag is added. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 15:54, 31 July 2020 (UTC)

So does this page satisfies the encyclopedic condition Shahoodu (talk) 05:13, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

@Shahoodu: The page being marked as reviewed indicates that the article meets the minimum requirements. Regards --John B123 (talk) 08:08, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

Thankyou for the response. So when will the page be indexed.I mean will the no index template be removed soon Shahoodu (talk) 11:49, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

@Shahoodu: Are you referring to Goggle indexing? It normally takes a day or two for google to index the page after it's marked as reviewed. Regards --John B123 (talk) 12:06, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

Yes I was talking about google indexing.Thankyou Shahoodu (talk) 12:08, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

Reviewing … Omar Khayyam

Dear John B. Thanks again for reviewing my very poor articles. I do not know if you have a great interest in Kiribati but you are helping me very much — putting more high my standard. Unfortunately two of my underreferenced articles on Kiribati 🇰🇮 ministries have been put into Draft space. Before your review of course. Could you help me to put them again on the Main? There are two of them now : Draft:Ministry of Information, Communications, Transport and Tourism Development. I know that the examination in the Draft could stay for quite long. But there is still so few info for this small country in the Pacific (only a very few RNZ articles, Nothing more), that sourcing and checking info is really a difficult thing. With regards.-Arorae (talk) 23:05, 31 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi Arorae. I notice you have submitted the two drafts for WP:AfC review. As I'm not an AfC reviewer, it would be inappropriate for me to override that process. I have done a bit of tidying up and added more references to Draft:Ministry of Information, Communications, Transport and Tourism Development and Draft:Ministry of Environment, Lands and Agricultural Development. Regards --John B123 (talk) 08:13, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

Page curation tagging at Electrotechnology

Hi John! Thanks for all your work reviewing new pages, I know you've been doing this a long time. I noticed your recent edits to Electrotechnology using the page curation tagging system. As a new page reviewer myself, I know it's easy to just tag pages and move on; however, it is important to look at the article history before doing so. This page is a redirect that has been contributed to as a dictionary definition by well-meaning editors twice now. Rather than tagging the article, it would have more helpful as a reviewer to revert to a previous edition, or at least start a discussion surrounding the redirect. I know this is probably something that you usually pay attention to, but it's especially important to check the page history when reviewing older articles (this one was created in 2005). Sorry to bother, thanks for all you do! -- Missionedit (talkcontribs) 04:39, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi Missionedit. I did wonder whether to revert it to the redirect or to tag it in the hope that the tags would prompt someone to expand it into a useful article. As well as reviewing newly created articles, I also "start at the back" working through the older article to see if anything has changed so they can be marked as reviewed. This normally takes a couple of weeks to look at the nearly 10k articles after which I start again. I had intended to look at Electrotechnology again on the next sweep and if nothing had been done to it change it back to the redirect. Cheers. --John B123 (talk) 07:34, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

Article Approvals

Quick question, is there a way to ask for approval on articles that aren’t approved for I guess, days. Or do they just come randomly in different time, basically I need to wait.DeltaSquad833 (talk) 09:59, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi DeltaSquad833 There is a large backlog of new article waiting for approval at the moment so in some cases aproval may be delayed. What article(s) is it that you're asking about? Regards. --John B123 (talk) 10:11, 2 August 2020 (UTC)
Yeap John B123 that explains and sums it up. Thanks. The article is Belait CSS-2.DeltaSquad833 (talk) 10:15, 2 August 2020 (UTC)
Hi DeltaSquad833, I've marked Belait CSS-2 as reviewed. I do find the articles you have created about ships interesting. Regards --John B123 (talk) 10:27, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

Thanks a lot really appreciate the feedback. DeltaSquad833 (talk) 10:45, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

This article is a GAC nomination. While I can appreciate separate filmography pages, did it ever occur you to discuss this on the article's talk page first, before completely removing it to its own list article? Your actions were completely inappropriate in this instance. — Maile (talk) 10:32, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

  The Original Barnstar
Hello John B123. I appreciate your participation in the article about Thomas Kiernan (biographer). This is the first page I have ever created for Wikipedia and I want it to be great. Your assistance is vital as I am new to page creation. I do not know how to "message" inside of Wikipedia so please let me know if there is a better way to seek your guidance. Yours in service, Riseley Riseley (talk) 23:17, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

Looks like I was directed to a TALK page after I submitted that -- and I am slowly figuring out this is how folks talk with one another here at Wikipedia. My experience until now has been pretty superficial, and I am sure that everyone is hoping for your mentoring, but I'll just ask again -- I do hope we can work together toward a great article. Please do let me know specifically which other items you would like to see cited in the article. What you see there is the product of several hours of work, so I'm invested in getting it as perfect as possible. Thank you again!

Hi Riseley, Thanks. Normally if you want to talk to a person directly you use their talk page, if it's a general comment about an article that is not directed at a specific person then use the article's talk page. If you reply to somebody on an article talk page then prefix your reply with{{reply|their username}} so they get a notification they have a message. (no need to do that on an editors talk page as they get a notification whenever anything is posted on the page).
I've added some categories to Thomas Kiernan (biographer). The "Biography" section needs referencing. Generally you need to add a reference at the end of each paragraph. Regards --John B123 (talk) 23:38, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

Copyvio speedy deletion tags

Hi John B123! I see that you tagged and then later untagged the page Wembley or Bust as a copyvio. Firstly, thanks for your vigilance in finding copyvios like this. However, in future please can I ask you to replace the speedy tags with a {{copyvio-revdel}} tag instead of removing it completely after the copyvio content has been removed from the latest revision? That way, admins are still alerted to remove the relevant edits from the page history as well.

I've revdelled the specific revisions from the page history now, so don't worry about this article. Cheers! stwalkerster (talk) 13:26, 3 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi Stwalkerster. Thanks for the info about revdel, I'll make sure I follow that procedure in future. Cheers --John B123 (talk) 15:42, 3 August 2020 (UTC)

Please stop removing improve categories tags

... like you did on Lisa Filipetto and Vilma Kathleen McNish when there are still categories to be added like the alumni categories. You take them off and I have to put them back. BostonMensa (talk) 19:20, 4 August 2020 (UTC)

@BostonMensa: Both articles have an acceptable number of categories. If you think they should have additional categories then perhaps you should add them rather than tagging them. I would draw you attention to WP:FIXTHEPROBLEM, specifically Fix problems if you can, flag or remove them if you can't. I would also also draw your attention to WP:OVERCAT. In the case of Lisa Filipetto for example, alumni categories would fall into WP:NONDEFINING. --John B123 (talk) 19:36, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
  • there is a difference between acceptable number and ignoring ones that are appropriate but not added. But don’t worry, I will continue to clean up after all. Because after all, overcatogorizing could be defined as person from Boston, Person from Massachusetts, Person from New England, Person from the United States, person from Planet Earth vs. Ambassador of x country to y country and alumni of x university. But it don’t worry, I’ll patrol all your edits and correct as necessary. BostonMensa (talk) 19:48, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
If you think my editing, which is mostly new page curation, needs patrolling then feel free to lodge a complaint to a relevant administrator. --John B123 (talk) 19:55, 4 August 2020 (UTC)

Pages tag

I have been watching that you are tagging {{refimprove}} tag in some new pages as reviewer. But if you actually see then you'd find that the sources provided covers almost all, while I don't believe the tag is unnecessary. If you find there's sources like Banglapedia on your recent changes on Gachua Union. That covers all the necessary information provided in the page. I don't think that other sources cover much. Please review one again and don't tag unnecessarily. Thanks. A. Shohag 15:44, 5 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi ShohagS. If you look at the article Gachua Union, the sections "Location and boundaries", "Administrative structure", "Communication system", "Public representative" (except for Mohammad Shamsuddin) and "Primary Schools" with "Educational Institutions" are unreferenced. The {{refimprove}} tag is therefore justified. If the other references on the page cover these sections then that needs to be indicated within these sections. Regards --John B123 (talk) 16:07, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
