Proposed deletion of Kinlock Shelter edit

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
The result was Keep due to discussion below.-- Jo7hs2 (talk) 20:46, 19 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Kinlock Shelter, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

This rock shelter doesn't seem to be very notable.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Fangfufu (talk) 03:51, 22 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disagree. The location has intrinsic cultural significance. It is mentioned or featured in several publications, has been featured in a television program on Alabama Public Television, and is well known to frequent visitors of Bankhead National Forest and Sipsey Wilderness, and the local native-american population. I will concede that the article could use some improvement, and I will carry out such improvement, but it is not worthy of deletion.Jo7hs2
I have completed several improvements to the article, and will continue to improve it. Jo7hs2 (talk) 18:50, 23 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Don't worry about this proposed deletion. I was sorting the backlog of new page that required to be patrolled. It is just that when I first googled about it, not a lot seemed to have come up. I have to apologise for my hastiness on putting on the wrong tag. I think the article is getting better. Next time I will be more careful on putting tags on. Fangfufu (talk) 19:03, 23 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
No problem, I could have made it clearer in the article what the significance was, and I could have done a better job positioning references so that the article was more clearly sourced. Jo7hs2 (talk) 19:05, 23 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
I just added a line regarding the site, feel free to delete, if you feel it doesn't fit in the article. Fangfufu (talk) 19:21, 23 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
No, actually it is important to note that camping is currently prohibited there (also w/in .5mi of the nearby falls), because people often camp in rock shelters in Bankhead National Forest.Jo7hs2 (talk) 19:23, 23 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ulchee edit

What are Ulchee? it appears in the article Kinlock Shelter. I tried to google it, I couldn't find a lot information. Fangfufu (talk) 19:26, 23 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Ulchee were a tribe of Native Americans. I don't think they were a particularly large or well documented tribe, so that might explain the lack of information. It is also possible they were a subset of Cherokee indians, but I don't really know much beyond that. I've only seen the name described as a tribe, nothing more. And also, what's CCC? I might be able to add something. Fangfufu (talk) 19:28, 23 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
The CCC was the Civilian Conservation Corps, which was a Great Depression era New Deal program in the United States. They constructed a variety of camps (both for work and recreation) and constructed a variety of buildings and features as a way of employing out of work Americans. Essex bus route 804 edit

I saw your shift of opinion on this AfD. Reading it, it struck me that it had struck you, and I wrote a comment after yours aimed at the author(s), that someone thinks this is important and has put a lot of effort into it, and has really done a nice job. Could this be a school project? Looking at the history, I don't think it is. But the article seems harmless even if it doesn't meet the normal criteria for inclusion. Forgetting the rules, how would it harm Wikipedia? Disk space is not expensive. But Google would likely give the Wikipedia entry on the search term prominence, so I suppose if the timetable changed or the route was canceled, people might find incorrect information. It might also encourage advertising in countries where there is more competition on bus routes. I don't see these as very strong negatives. On a scale of -100 to 100, I would rate this one as -3.

Maybe it is a school project, which is why I am writing here, not on the AfD page. Any thoughts or ideas? I really do not have strong opinions, apart from finding a way to avoid endless debates on the same subject. Aymatth2 (talk) 02:38, 22 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Eh, I'm holding out on any discussion of the article on the merits now that the AfD is such a horrible mess. I generally think that having an encyclopedia entry for every bus route is a little excessive when lists already exist, but that is an argument distinct from deleting non-notable bus routes. Jo7hs2 (talk) 03:40, 22 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

It is a mess. I sort of want to find a more general way of resolving messes like this in the future. And I sort of think I should quit AfD debates for a while and go back to writing new articles on villages, rivers, islands, UFOs and other non-controversial topics. Loch Alsh is a peaceful place. Goldendoodle edit

Hi. I have reverted your recent edits to goldendoodle. At least two of them were helpful to the article. Mine went with the section it was in and the other showed a puppy, which is important because the appearance of these dogs changes a lot as they grow up. The third was a quality image. I understand the need to not have a billion images on the article, but let's not delete ones that are useful. Illinois2011 (talk) 23:28, 4 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Emancipating Something New edit

Okay, I am going to try to find some references. Thanks for your help! NewAfrika (talk) 02:38, 15 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Not a problem, on the contrary. If the author can source the article then it should not be deleted. §FreeRangeFrog 02:59, 15 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
By the way, the only reason why I tagged it was because I did a quick search on the subject title and found nothing. Zero hits. This is usually a big warning sign for hoaxes. However, in this case if we're talking about a French film from the 30s then I guess searching for the title in French would have been more productive :) §FreeRangeFrog 03:03, 15 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Left a message on the French equivalent to the Village Pump. We'll see if we get something from them. Otherwise, assuming no response from NewAfrika, I'll just prod it. §FreeRangeFrog 21:20, 21 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Agreed on the AfD vs PROD. The response I got from the French Wikipedia was that it's probably a hoax. We'll give it another day or so. §FreeRangeFrog 23:43, 21 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Thanks for deleting my post on Mike Wozniak.

If you took the time to look at the references I used, you would have found out that it was all correct. Please edit my style - but do not acuse me of vandalism when it was so well referenced. This was my first attempt to help the Wiki experiment. I am too busy to rewrite the whole page again. It took me ages. I am very demoralised. Thanks for the quick work. I honestly don't know much on the subject... I just recent joined the Article Rescue Squad and thought that looked like a mighty fine article to attempt to save. If I find anything else, I'll be sure to add it in. I'm not sure it really helps the cause of saving the articles and proving notability, but on the MPC's Minor Planet Discoverers, they are listed as the 113th most prolific discoverers of Minor Planets. Unfortunately, since they seem to have stopped working in that capacity in 1998, the internet doesn't have much for me to find. -- PEPSI2786talk 01:44, 15 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia Campus Ambassadors wanted in Troy, Alabama edit

Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you're a member of WikiProject Alabama. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors to help with Wikipedia assignments at Troy University, which will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester. The role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.

Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).

I know Alabama is a big state, but if you happen to live near Troy and you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador, or know someone else from Troy who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 16:28, 6 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Second, go to the project talkpage and participate in a discussion about how to make the project more active, and how to go about making articles in our area of interest a lot better.

This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
