Monogenēs

Your are deliberately vandalizing the article. Monogenes does not mean 'only-begotten' though can be used in that context. Ref: Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature (BAGD, 3rd Edition). I have given you various cites/references, but your fascist religious outlook keeps removing my additions, which are cited. This is religious bigotry at the worse, deliberately editing out truth to support your religious view. Shame on you. - Jean — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.109.211.215 (talk) 07:17, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

@203.109.211.215: If you look at the results of your edit here, you will notice that the first line: Monogenēs (μονογενὴς) is a Greek word is duplicated. You need to check your work before saving? Shame on you for being sloppy. Jim1138 (talk) 07:22, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

It is not being sloopy when users such as yourself and 'In ictu oculi' delete edits immediately after placement, and I am trying to work with edit lock outs, cannot edits, and removal of edits. This is not conducive to adding to add information, without mistakes. But fine, shame on me for being sloppy on such as non-leveled field. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.109.211.215 (talk) 08:56, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

GG ALLIN..........

The 'Always Was Is and Always Shall Be,' CD was released in 1995. The CD can still be purchased online through a number of outlets. The date of release is clearly delineated in the album credits. I am looking at the CD in my hand right now. I have owned it for years! Thank you. Please look at the actual product. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mognj (talkcontribs) 19:54, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

Why don't you get a life instead of sitting in front of your computer all day. The high priestess of knowledge, indeed! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mognj (talkcontribs) 20:10, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

@Mognj: I don't know it all. That's why I want you to cite your sources! Perhaps you should try building an encyclopedia the way many others have discussed and agreed to do rather than hacking it to your satisfaction? Jim1138 (talk) 20:19, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

Jimbo.....the crybaby.....

Sits in front of his computer everyday acting as the arbiter of the grand Wikipedia. The all knowing know it all who is the expert on everything. The savior of the western world. And of course, when questioned about anything, cries to the main office about ill treatment.....By the way......a lousy editor who uses only one source! Trencher

Hi Jim1138, I'm wondering what pages are appropriate to add information about trenchers to. It seems trenchers may be a banned or regulated topic, as all of my trencher-related edits have been reverted.

For reference, when I say trencher, I am referring to the following:

Mazher Mahmood

The current IP edits are clunky and unhelpfully angry, but not unsourced - the Independent article linked in the lede confirms that "Scotland Yard and the Crown Prosecution Service are in discussions as to whether to take action against Mr Mahmood, who could be investigated for possible perjury or perversion of the course of justice." and the article body contains the sourced sentence "The Sun on Sunday announced that Mahmood had been suspended." --McGeddon (talk) 08:49, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

@31.185.167.228: My apology. It appeared that you were adding that information without adding a source. May I suggest adding an wp:edit summary with your edits? Doing so might prevent this kind of thing. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 08:57, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

No mistake on the Atkins augmention!

Hey Jimmy--you're quite correct that I made that addition to the Christopher Atkins page, but it WASN'T an error. You can check it out for yourself right there in a special edition of People magazine that IS STILL ON THE STANDS. It's the one that features updates on former child stars, as I stated in the entry! I realize it's odd to say that Atkins is an avid nudist, but THAT'S WHAT PEOPLE MAGAZINE REPORTED! Check it out if you don't believe me, but don't change the entry, for it's factual. I do NOT vandalize Wikipedia; in fact, I'm a HUGE fan of Wikipedia, and would never do anything to harm it. I would have cited the specific date of the issue, but I didn't have it in front of me. But like I said, it's still on the stands as of yesterday. Feel free to e-mail me at RadioactiveSeattle@hotmail.com if you still have a problem with what I did. Thanks! Christian Terrorism

I got your message about the edits, I didnt know I had to leave a summary, as I've edited things before without leaving a summary. The reason I changed it because the section about Spain had nothing to do with Christianity or religion in general, and the one about the United Kingdom only linked to an article about the Colonial British killing Australian Aboriginals, I dont see any of this has anything to do with Christian Terrorism. Thanks. 58.178.229.20 (talk) 10:14, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

@58.178.229.20: It really helps a lot to leave an edit summary. I couldn't figure out why it was deleted with a cursory examination. Someone else deleted it with an edit summary. The text you deleted wasn't formatted very well either. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 17:09, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

What gives ?

I was attacked by a user, and you side with the attacker. Is that standard Wikipedia practice? 129.133.125.225 (talk) 21:06, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

You assert that me saying that someone is lying is a "personal attack" when it is not. However, that person was so angry with the changes, he violated revert edit rule, **and then went looking at my history of changes and started attacking all of them** And yet I am supposed to be the problem. You do not know what you are doing. You jump into disputes without understanding what has been happening, and then you leave threats on my talk page that you're going to have me blocked. You are the reckless person here. 129.133.125.225 (talk) 20:25, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

I didn't violate any such rule. I made four reverts in four days. That is perfectly well within the limits of reality. Your edits are against consensus, and furthermore against the verifiability policy, so you don't have any rights to keep them in. Your last post is again a personal attack. You need to review WP:CIVIL and keep a cooler head in disputes before you can expect to come here and have us work together with you. Elizium23 (talk) 20:35, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

"Your edits are against consensus" Bull. This was never addressed by consensus. There was no such discussion. "and furthermore against the verifiability policy," Absolutely incorrect. You cannot prove that any central authority to name the church exists. In fact, your posts indicate that you know there is no such thing. "Your last post is again a personal attack." That's an irrational comment. "and keep a cooler head in disputes before you can expect to come here" I'm not the one who went and followed through my history and attacked every other post I made. You're lying again.129.133.125.225 (talk) 20:43, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

"I didn't violate any such rule. I made four reverts in four days." That certainly seems to be an admission that the Evensteven account is a sock puppet of yours. 129.133.125.225 (talk) 20:45, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

Change Information and Insert Correct One

You need to change the incorrect information regarding the biographical section of Maududi. The names listed as "influences" are incorrect. They are the ones who influenced from Maududi's thoughts. And he did not graduate from Darul Uloom Deoband. Read his information. Hello

Hi, I'm Tecnmaticity, I recently got your message that you have reverted my changes made on Online "Journalism in India". I guess that there was no error from my side and I would like you to revert back the changes that you have made. And I'm sorry that I didn't put a suitable reason for the changes that I made, if you want then I can give edit that article myself with appropriate reason. Moreover I live in india and as per popularity, I made those changes, so that the person with more notability should be highlighted. Anyways apart from all this, let me know your response. Thank you.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Technmaticity (talkcontribs) 06:58, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Dictate - Treaty

We talk about an unilateral decision, when the opposite side didn't have any option. They weren't equal partners. So this isn't a treaty, this is an unilateral dictate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.249.247.244 (talk) 07:58, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Je me suis spécialisé sur la question de M.G.Ramachandiran dit MGR, en France. Je suis entrain de faire un livre sur ce personnage en langue française.

Je peux vous communiquer mon e-mail : lacourferdinand@hotmail.fr

A more careful review can sometimes benefit Wikipedia

Hi Jim1138: your swift reversal of an edit to the Scottish independence page also reverted grammatical changes that are valid. I accept your issue about the general nature of the article—I have relocated the content to another page, as there is nowhere for the events of this year to be sufficiently documented—but a thorough check of the revision would have revealed the aforementioned edits. Cheers,--Soulparadox (talk) 08:32, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

@Soulparadox: Are you referring to this edit to Scottish independence which I undid here? Or, this edit to Scottish Governement which I undid here? If you would please link the article here and perhaps a wp:diff or date and time, that would help. You can undo other's wp:revert, but Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 15:51, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
No problem. I received your latest message about the content being elsewhere in the article, so it is all good on that front. Now that I have had a break, I will eventually attend to those minor grammar/syntax issues. Regards,--Soulparadox (talk) 07:13, 6 August 2014 (UTC)

Jim, hi,

Sorry for having taken so long to respond to your action.

I am NOT VERY SAVVY in terms of how to navigate Wikipedia & often find it challenging (especially, in light of time management, being the sole care-provider of a post-stroke partner...).

Anyway, I NO LONGER remember my edition to the Atlantic ocean entry/value & have no record kept thereof (would appreciate a reminder/link to it... :) ;)

I am NOT sure, when removing it, what you meant by it appearing to be "a test"...&would appreciate your explanation (if you could send it to my email address-that would be best :)

Kind thanks,

@Rezameyqani: Did you read what I put on your talk page several times? I said "Cite your source". Putting it on an wp:edit summary or on my talk page is not citing a source. You should also add an wp:edit summary explaining your reasoning wp:page history. You have not left any edit summaries on Fields Medal and what edit summaries you left on Maryam Mirzakhani's page don't describe what you did. For instance: "Some updates on Maryam Mirzakhani's Wikipage". Most changes could be construed as "some updates". "Changing citizenship per citation" would be useful. I have no problem with your changes, provided you cite your source on the article page. Attempting to give you advice and getting this response is really getting frustrating. Dick Tarrant

Sure, you are within your rights to remove valid information that takes (literally) seconds to verify. As somebody who fixes lots of newbie edits I just personally think it's counter-productive to delete correct, non-controversial information. Because you could also add a "citation needed" tag. But you are correct, you certainly did nothing out of bounds in deleting the correct, non-controversial information that an IP added to the article without a citation. Cheers Rikster2 (talk) 17:06, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

@Rikster2: I could, but I did leave enough info for the anon to learn to add a citation, including an invitation to ask questions of me here. By allowing unsourced material to be put on articles, I suspect you are encouraging others not to add citations which I find rather troubling. Perhaps you should contact the anons yourself and offer advice on how to add a citation? Jim1138 (talk) 18:46, 18 August 2014 (UTC)
How did I allow unsourced material by adding a citation? You should take a look at WP:PRESERVE by the way, you might find it interesting. You also might want to finish reading WP:BURDEN to the part that says "If you think the material is verifiable, you are encouraged to provide an inline citation yourself before considering whether to remove or tag it." Last, you should remember that I didn't start this conversation with you, you did on my Talk page. You are probably a good guy, and I am sure you mean well, so I'll stop with that. Rikster2 (talk) 19:55, 18 August 2014 (UTC)
@Rikster2: Actually, you started the conversation with your edit summary here. I did thank you for adding a citation on your talk page. Note: WP:V is part of WP:Five pillars where WP:PRESERVE is not. I would suggest that you encourage others to cite their sources rather than just add them yourself. I do encourage others to do so btw. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 20:19, 18 August 2014 (UTC)
My edit summary was not the start of a conversation. You were not forced to post on my Talk page, you chose to. Note: both WP:V and WP:PRESERVE encourage editors to fix problems vs. revert them. Adding sources where they are missing is without question improving the encyclopedia (I also counsel new editors btw), whereas removing correct and non-controversial information from articles without trying to source doesn't. As I said in the first message on this thread, you certainly were within your rights to do what you did (and as I also said, I am sure that you mean well). But that doesn't make it the best (or only) move. Rikster2 (talk) 20:26, 18 August 2014 (UTC)
@Rikster2: It's only uncontroversial when the info is accurate. When you figure out how to get citations to be added to articles with the edit, let me know. I'm all ears. Until then... Jim1138 (talk) 22:37, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

@5.108.76.10: I can change the name. Do you have a link that supports this? The name should be supported by as stated in wp:v. See wp:reliable sources for what would be acceptable. Also, the reference on Fazal Katchh is dead. Do you have something to correct it with? Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 20:31, 20 August 2014 (UTC)

Plot summaries

There are two categories of plot summaries:

1. Gives the general gist of the story, generally excluding specific details of character deaths, romances, falling-outs, and many others, unless they are a vital part of the plot in progress. For example, if a character death is a crucial motivator for another character, and thus drives the story forward, an exception could be easily justified.

2. A blow-by-blow account of the entire story, generally considered inappropriate for an encyclopedia.

I see example #1 much more often in Wikipedia, and thus considered it the standard approach. Am I incorrect?

The prevalence of example #1 is also the reason spoiler tags are generally unnecessary in Wikipedia articles, for they would be redundant. I can therefore agree with not making them part of standard editing procedure. (And thank you for pointing me to that page elucidating Wikipedia's policy on spoiler tags.)

That said, the section https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_The_Force_Unleashed_%28project%29#Story appears to include elements of both examples, generally following the tone of example #1, with the exception of one significant plot detail which would normally be found in a description following the model of example #2. The fact that it doubles as a significant spoiler is perhaps incidental.

Do you disagree?

Gibbousmoon100 (talk) 05:53, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

@Gibbousmoon100: I'm not that familiar. I would suggest Wikipedia:How to write a plot summary for a guide. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 06:20, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the link. The following sentence from that page seems to indicate that that entire sentence should be deleted, rather than having a spoiler tag placed before it: "However, when summarizing a plot and choosing what details to include, editors should use discretion. The advantages of exhaustive coverage of the work are in dynamic tension with the desire to preserve the artistic qualities of the work for readers.[4] Wikipedia should contain potentially "spoiling" detail where it substantially enhances the reader's understanding of the work and its impact but be omitted when it merely ruins the experience of the work of fiction for our readers." Does including the death of the protagonist at the conclusion of the story enhance the reader's understanding of the work, in your opinion? Gibbousmoon100 (talk) 06:36, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

@Gibbousmoon100: I would think the protagonist's death should be discussed. Otherwise, the plot would be incomplete. Someone who saw the film and wishing to refresh their memory would want that info. Someone who hadn't seen the film and doesn't want it spoiled should stop at a heading of "plot". Stopping can be difficult! Should the heading "Story" be changed to "Plot"? Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 06:43, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

I disagree with you for the reasons I already outlined (namely, that I consider example #1 to be a superior plot description to example #2), but if you were to argue that this particular example represents a gray area, I would have to concede to that. But I've read many dozens, if not hundreds, of great plot summaries on wikipedia (of stories I've already seen or read) that gracefully exclude spoiling the very end of the story. In any case, I don't care enough either way to push the issue, not being a huge Star Wars fan. But I expect the paragraph left as is to both surprise and "ruin the experience of the work of fiction for our readers" for long-time users of wikipedia who are accustomed to plot summaries that adhere to my example #1 above. Gibbousmoon100 (talk) 07:55, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

@Gibbousmoon100: I bow to your superior expertise. I am not one for films in general. Thanks for the discussion. I hope I didn't make this overly complex. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 08:15, 21 August 2014 (UTC)
@Jim1138: Ditto. I am leaving the entry as-is. For as long as I am a new wikipedia editor (albeit a long-time user), I will concede to the opinions of more experienced editors. Thank you again for the informative links and information. Gibbousmoon100 (talk) 11:43, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Finished History of Warfare

Hello Jim1138

I just finished the changes you ask for me to do on my article. Thanks for your advice! I was able to improve it in a lot of areas. Can we publish it on Wikipedia now?

Privatesteverogers (talk) 04:42, 20 August 2014 (UTC)

@Privatesteverogers: Sorry, I thought I replied to your last post, something must have gone haywire. Were you planning on going through WP:AFC? AfC appears to be rather backed up. I am not familiar with the process and probably not the best person to ask. You could take a look Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation here. Also, you can ask questions at wp:teahouse. Hope this helps. Jim1138 (talk) 04:49, 20 August 2014 (UTC)

No need to worry Jim I was able to find a guy and he is showing me how I can post the article to wikipedia, I coulf take a while because there so many articles to review so in a week or so I should get my anser in a few days.Wish me luck!!! Privatesteverogers (talk) 03:49, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

Haileybury, Melbourne

Hi Jim1138, The addition to where Haileybury is located is actually right. Haileybury has opened a new campus in Beijing in the last year. It is one of the campuses mentioned on notices. I am a student at Haileybury, Brighton myself, so I should know. Thanks (HEROBRINEROXTHEWORLD (talk) 00:26, 23 August 2014 (UTC))

@HEROBRINEROXTHEWORLD: The link you used was red, so you probably did not format the link correctly. As the article is titled "Haileybury, Melbourne", saying it is located in China would be confusing. I would suggest adding it somewhere else on the page. Remember wp:verifiability and to wp:cite your sources. Thank you Jim1138 (talk) 02:26, 23 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi Jim1138 Thanks for the advice. And by the way, I didn't intend to put a link in the Beijing campus. That is why it was red. But thanks anyway. (HEROBRINEROXTHEWORLD (talk) 02:41, 25 August 2014 (UTC))

North Bengal etc

Hi Jim1138
I also came across Mohan Bose (talk · contribs), whom you reverted at North Bengal (NB), when they created the unsourced North Bengal, Bangladesh, which now appears to me to be text copied from NB. They again deleted most text from NB here soon after you reverted their unexplained edit there.

They have also made unexplained/unsourced edits edits to Jalpaiguri, which has a history of sockpuppetry. AGF, I have only a suspicion at the moment but WP:Sockpuppet investigations/Sayan Basu/Archive may enlighten. Regards, 220 of Borg 10:25, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

No comment about this? I noticed just today that they actually appear to have split North Bengal (NB) into two pages North Bengal, Bangladesh and North Bengal, India. NB seems to be page that has suffered a lot of POV editing as a look back in the history shows the page has been much bigger than it is currently.

Anti-fouling paint

Hi Jim, you recently undid an edit of mine regarding an addition to the antifoul paints page, your issue was with a lack of citations. As I happen to work for one of the companies that I didn't name (remaining neutral!) I know that there aren't really any completely independent sources of information regarding effectiveness of the technology, bar a few magazine reviews (if these could be called impartial is again debatable!) and the various companies own websites. Would these magazines be an acceptable citation ?

I am not aiming to advertise any company, just to add information that there is an alternative technology to these paints.

With thanks, Sheldon — Preceding unsigned comment added by SheldonP101 (talkcontribs) 13:41, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

@SheldonP101: Yes, a magazine citation would do fine. Thanks for asking. If you want me to fill out the reference, I would gladly do so. For a detailed ref, you can use template:cite journal or template:cite web. Thanks for asking! BTW: what would you call such a coating? "anti-fouling paint", "antifouling paint", or something else? My American dictionary seems to prefer "antifouling". Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 17:52, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

That clears that up, thanks! I have actually started a page in my sandbox regarding the technology so I will add it to the list of references I have yet to put up. I don't think there is a real issue with what the paint is called, the same way that you would probably call rubbish trash (presuming that you have an American dictionary because you are American!)Fouling is a wide term used to describe anything unwanted on a surface, so 'to antifoul' or to 'use anti-fouling paints' is what I usually go by, but I dont even think about it, and now I look back I have used both! (I guess its more writing style after looking up the grammar rules!)

With thanks, SheldonP101 (talk) 15:19, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

Blanked Pear Linux for good

I'm the one who blanked the Pear Linux page. Couldn't say it has any useful content before blanking — it was redirected to Linux distribution where there is no word about Pear Linux itself. So, the redirect was misleading. It could be redirected to Operating system or Application for no much difference.

Pear linux itself is a less popular Linux distribution, and it's worth mentioning only because it shows a severe effort to copy Apple OSes look and feel. I guess the best solution is to place a stub article on the Pear Linux page. --31.28.118.179 (talk) 12:12, 30 August 2014 (UTC)

@31.28.118.179: The redirect could be deleted. To do so, a wp:redirects for discussion (RFD) should be used. Someone looking for Pear Linux would be confused finding a blank page. If the redirect is absurd (such as windows redirecting to geranium), I would suggest leaving it alone. Thanks for the note! Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 15:52, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
