Regarding edits to Ashland High School (Massachusetts) edit

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, Jessdro! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. If you were trying to insert a good link, please accept my creator's apologies, but note that the link you added, matching rule facebook\.com\/.+, is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. Please read Wikipedia's external links policy for more information. If the link was to an image, please read Wikipedia's image tutorial on how to use a more appropriate method to insert the image into an article. If your link was intended to promote a site you own, are affiliated with, or will make money from inclusion in Wikipedia, please note that inserting spam into Wikipedia is against policy. Please do not vandalize pages, as you did with this edit to Odor. If you continue to do so, you will be blocked from editing – Gurch 02:18, 3 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations! edit

Because of the edits you made today, you've won yourself a permanent vacation from Wikipedia! Contributing to articles can be very stressful and time-consuming, and it's just too much for some people to handle. So I've set you free! Take a nap in a hammock, walk on the beach, fly a kite, or build a tree fort. If hang gliding or motorcycle racing is more your speed, you can do that, too! You can do whatever you like, as long as you're not editing Wikipedia. Hooray for you! Kafziel Talk 13:09, 11 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I have been a dedicated reader of Wikipedia for quite a while. Sometime during this year will mark the second anniversary of when I first started to utilize the vast pool of knowledge that this site has to offer. However, it wasn't until a few months ago that I had any intention whatsoever to edit "the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit".

I had been looking through various articles and was always greatly aggravated when there was an article lacking a visual to contribute to the content. I had decided that I could remedy this problem by supplying pictures of my own. Despite being entirely unsure of how to edit an article, I promptly created an account with the username "Jessdro", a portmanteau of my first and last names.

To my disappointment, I soon realized that I didn't know how to add a picture to a page. I referred to the uploading images section of the help page, which as ironic as it may sound, didn't help me at all. The reason for this was that I didn't understand the instructions and only looked for a brief moment. I soon dropped this idea but remained logged in to the site because I enjoyed feeling like I was part of the great site that Wikipedia is. I had come down to only adding minor edits, and even these were taken as vandalism and changed back to what they had been previously. Just when I was finally preparing to become a productive member of Wikipedia, I found out much to my chagrin that I had been blocked from editing it. The reason: nothing but vandalism from this account. This didn't make much sense to me since I only made one or two edits and they were most certainly not vandalism.

I was deeply perplexed by this for a while but then I thought to look at the link along the top entitled "my contributions" in bold. To my confusion and surprise there were several edits that I had nothing to do with. Among the included were edits to the film Reign Over Me, Odor, the town of Ashland, Massachusetts, and the name Christopher. Although I am not entirely sure how these edits came to be, I have come to the assumption that it was one of my friends using my computer without my knowledge and testing to see if Wikipedia really can be edited.

Since the duration of my block has been set to indefinite, I fear that I may not be able to edit articles again. I have come to appeal for the removal of it because I think that I can add valuable information to the site and be responsible with my account to prevent incidents of vandalism from happening in the future. Thank you for reading, and please consider.

Decline reason:

This request for unblocking has been declined due to your history of vandalism and/or disruption to this encyclopedia. However, we are willing to give you another chance provided that you can earn back the trust of the Wikipedia community. To be unblocked you need to demonstrate that you are willing and able to contribute positively to Wikipedia. You can do this by:

  • Familiarizing yourself with our basic rules.
  • Pick any pre-existing article you wish to improve.
  • Click edit this page on that article and scroll down past the message informing you of your block.
  • Copy the source of that article and paste it to the bottom of your talk page under a new top-level heading (like this: = [[Article title]] =) and save the page before you improve it.
  • Propose some significant and well researched improvements to your article by editing your personal copy of the article. Please note that we are not looking for basic typo corrections, or small unreferenced additions; your edits should be substantial, and reflect relevant policies.
  • When you are done with your work, re-request unblocking and an administrator will review your proposed edits.
    • If we (including the original blocking admin) are convinced that your proposed edits will improve Wikipedia as an encyclopedia, you will be unblocked.

If you need help while working with your proposed edits, you may add "{{helpme|your question here}}" to your talk page. Thank you. --  Netsnipe  ►  07:47, 14 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

  • You have many contributions that are clearly vandalism, and ultimately you are responsible for edits made on your account. I am contacting the blocking admin to discus reducing the duration of your block. In the mean time, you might want to consider changing your password to something more secure. --Selket Talk 05:29, 14 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • You claim that those vandalism edits had nothing to do with you. I'm skeptical about that, since it went on for more than a month. But if you can point out just three helpful edits in all your contributions, I will unblock you. Kafziel Talk 11:56, 14 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I completely understand how you could be skeptical about this, but as I said earlier, it wasn't me causing vandalism on the site. My belief is that it was done by someone using my account as some sort of joke. As you may know, when a user first logs on to the site, there is the option to check a box labeled 'remember me'. Of course I decided to check this box so that I wouldn't have to deal with the tedious task of logging in every time I came on here. This proved to be a poor decision on my part since people were able to violate the rules of Wikipedia while using my username. I promise that I will be more secure with this account in the future.
As for helpful edits, I honestly haven't made very many. The reason for this is that whenever I attempted to make an edit it was swiftly removed. One that I made was regarding some students' opinions on the architectural design of Ashland High School (Massachusetts) [1] wherein I referenced this facebook link . This was removed shortly by a bot called Shadowbot explaining to me that facebook links are not allowed. I didn't realize this periviously, but I am sorry for my error and was only trying to add some different opinions of students to show that there is some criticisms of the school.
The other edit I tried to add was to the plot of the movie The Specials (film) [2]. I tried to change part where 'Cosgrove' Toys is mentioned. In the film, there is never any mention of this toy company but instead, there is a fictional 'Kosgro' Toy company. This information can also be backed up by a website called the Internet Movie Database.
And as for a third edit, I can't honestly say that I contributed one. Had I not been blocked without warning I could have possibly gone on to add much better edits to the site, as I was planning to do before I was blocked from editing. Just a short time ago, however, I was going over my contributions where I looked at nearly all of the differences for the pages I had edited and noticed something I had been mistaken about before. I had believed that the edit to the page Reign Over Me was adding a vulgar statement to the Tagline section, but in reality the edit was removing it [3]. I didn't directly do this but considering that it was on this username that would make three helpful edits from this account.

To sum it up the edits were:

Overall, I would greatly appreciate it if you would kindly unblock me.

Fair use rationale for Image:DSC01929.JPG edit

Image:DSC01929.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 09:52, 5 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:DSC01929.JPG) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:DSC01929.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:35, 7 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:N1232550099 30045954 8474.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 05:02, 3 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Check out my addition to the Ashland page:

Nyanza edit

The Nyanza Color and Chemical Company had a dye-manufacturing plant in Ashland. In 1971, the factory was identified as a hazard when pollution was discovered in the nearby Sudbury River. The site was placed on the Superfund National Priority List in 1982 when heavy metals and organochlorides were discovered in the soil and water near the site. It was also deemed probable that particles of mercuric sulfate were blown into the air. Cleaning up the contaminated site took 20 years and cost residents $55 million. The estates of the Nyanza executives were charged for the cleanup.

In 2006, the Massachusetts State Department of Public Health released a study that found that people who grew up in Ashland between the late 1960s and early 1980s and swam in the waters near Nyanza had a 200-300% higher incidence of cancer than those who weren't exposed to the chemicals.[1]
