My Dad saved the Herald article for me, and I saw it over Easter weekend - nice job, and nice photo! It was quite strange to see it all in print and it will be interesting to look for increased movement on the ProjectVermont page as a possible result. Burke

The Burke material looks to be stuff from a brand new user. It may be from out-of-copyright material anyway, despite my breast-beating on the Burke discussion. It would be nice to shepherd this new user through his/her changes. Could be a useful contributor to NEK stuff. I don't know about all that voting business in the beginning. Sorry it took so long. My old account was GDS918 and I lost my password. Actually, that was not a census for 2005, it was an estimate given by the US Census Bureau in 2006. But somehow I find it unlikely that Guilford lost people, more likely that it gained people. That's all. Take care!

Susan Wiley

If you wouldn't mind please revisiting the Genie (the feral child) article, now that I've included full transcriptions on my own article at countyhistorian for five of the articles that appeared at the time of her parents arrest. All five articles state her name and none of them make any insinuation that any part of the story is private.Wjhonson (talk) 07:01, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Did you read the newspaper transcripts which I provided? Can you point out some policy where once information has been widely distributed we should then suppress it? As you can see the internet is highly geared toward modern individuals. People of historical note (before about 1990) are skewed toward modern works, not historical ones. I provided the exact citations to the newspaper articles which named her as Susan Wiley without any indication than that her name was private in any way. Can you address that point? Thanks. Newport (town) notable

You are probably right about the vandalism. I was being irritable and wanted to revert it quickly. There once was a Howard Stern character called "Bigfoot" who lived in Newport city (not town). Howard tired of him and reassigned the designation long ago to someone or maybe a series of characters. So whoever he is now, he doesn't live in Newport. And the title is apparently "owned" by Stern and is reused. I don't mean copyright. It's just that the person is really only "notable" for being a drunk, talking crazy, and/or horribly anti-socially eccentric. or a prisoner or something. Infamous rather than famous. And he isn't "notable" under his real name anymore. I found this out through a lengthy investigation some years back and have had to revert it every few months or so since in several of the towns in the area. It is a nuisance. 251 Club

Was that you with the picture of Somerset in the Quechee Journal article about the club? If so, I was much amused at your recounting of your visit to Franklin, a place I've only visited two or three times myself, though I work with several people who call it home, which means, I suppose, that I know half the town!

While not a member of the club, I've visited all but 25 places, one of which is Somerset, and nearly all of which are in the far southern part of our state. One exception is another place you mentioned in the story: Lewis. While I've been to the NEK many times, as my family's originally from there, I've never quite found Lewis. Perhaps one day. I'm probably the wrong person to ask, since I can assure you if I thought it was stealth canvasing I wouldn't have done it. People asked questions about how to deal with a dispute on Wikipedia about a topic they cared about and, honestly, that's the way disputes are dealt with. I haven't edited the GiveWell page and I haven't encouraged people to go edit the page to give the illusion of some sort of "grass roots" swell of support for "my" side. People who were already trying to edit the article were getting frustrated with their edits being reverted and were asking how to manage the situation they were in and that's basically how to manage it. If you have larger concerns with the way I'm interacting on MetaFilter or on Wikipedia, you might want to get input from a completely disinterested party or some other admin since I've obviously got a bias towards feeling that my own behavior is okay. Wallace F. Miller

It seems you may have deleted what I posted about Wallace F. Miller , a 3 war veteran born in Williston on a farm. He is in 3 Vermont books of War Veterans and has won the Bronze Star in Vietnam for heroic deeds. To assist you on the Matter for verification contact The State Of Vermont Veterans Affairs Office in Montpelier. Mr. Miller did much more for this country and state then any of the other so called notables. he gave his life. So please explain why he has been deleted. So how do I add that page now or is it there ? I am trying to Honor my father as he deserves it for what he did for this country and the state of Vermont. he is on a Memorial in Essex Korea Memorial at the 5 corners and the VietNam One in Sharon he is also in three War Books of Vermont Veterans. Then there are others on the list that are not True Vermonters nor born in Williston. "Line house"

Hello.

You express an interest in public libraries in Vermont. Just yesterday I came across information on the web about the Haskell Free Library, whose building is partly in Vermont and partly in Quebec. I hadn't heard of it before. I also came across the term "line house", which I'd never heard before. I found four Wikipedia articles using the term, three of them as a common noun (and the fourth I'm not sure I understand yet), one of them in a red link to the term. Those three seemed to assume that the reader knew what the term means. So I created a stubby new article: Line house, with four articles and three redirects linking to it. Here's a hard question: is the term line house commonly understood only in New England? Maybe only in the three New England states bordering on Canada? And is it in fact sufficiently widely understood there that people in New England might have used the term in those in those three Wikipedia articles without it occurring to them that it might be unfamiliar to some readers? Given your involvement in Wikipedia:WikiProject Vermont, maybe you can help civilize the article. Or maybe not. I posted a comment on that WikiProject's talk page not long ago, and as far as I can tell, no one's seen it. (I'm accustomed to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mathematics, where comments are usually answered by multiple people within a couple of hours.) Michael Hardy (talk) 21:06, 26 January 2015 (UTC)

Help decide the future of Wikimania

The Wikimedia Foundation is currently running a consultation on the value and planning process of Wikimania, and is open until 18 January 2016. The goals are to (1) build a shared understanding of the value of Wikimania to help guide conference planning and evaluation, and (2) gather broad community input on what new form(s) Wikimania could take (starting in 2018).

After reviewing the consultation, we'd like to hear your feedback on on this survey.

In addition, feel free to share any personal experiences you have had at at a Wikimedia movement conference, including Wikimania. We plan to compile and share back outcomes from this consultation in February.

January 2017

Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to Ben H. Winters. I noticed that when you added the image to the infobox, you added it as a thumbnail. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks!
