speedy tagging edit

G'day Isopropyl,

it's great to see you're doing your bit to keep Wikipedia free of trash. This is an extremely important job, and I don't wish to dissuade you from identifying crap and asking us to delete it. However, we have deliberately very restrictive speedy deletion criteria for a reason: it prevents mistakes, stops people deleting stuff that needs to be kept. One article you tagged as {{db}}, with the reason being "fails WP:MUSIC". Now, articles that fail WP:MUSIC aren't automatically deleted — they don't often pass AfD, but it has been known to happen. WP:MUSIC is not a valid reason to speedy delete an article. Please keep the CSD in mind when tagging articles for speedy deletion; if you stick around long enough, and do good work, one day you'll be an administrator — and then there'll be no-one to make sure you don't make mistakes when you delete stuff.

Thanks, fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 08:05, 24 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

AfD nominations edit

G'day Isopropyl,

oh, an AfD nomination can be a vote. Heck, it can be a chicken if you want, but that's not very nice, because they tend to peck at you and get quite uncomfortable with time. I just — this is a personal view, you can take it or leave it as you choose — think that voting in nominations is Bad Form. Excuse me, I'm going to get long-winded again ...

Basically, AfD is not a poll. A vote with a good argument can outweigh a dozen votes without one, something that often comes as a shock to those who don't explain their votes. Traditionally, the nominator gives the strongest argument for deletion, clearly explaining why the article shouldn't be on Wikipedia, with reference to policy, Google, the phase of the moon, whatever. This starts everything off on the right foot, so that even if nobody else bothers to argue why something should be deleted, we aren't having an AfD full of "nn d"s with no explanation for why somebody's pride and joy doesn't deserve to belong in our encyclopaedia. When you make your argument clear, you don't need to add a vote to your nomination — the closing admin will read your argument and say "hey, that's a good argument for deletion". By contrast, many people seem to feel that so long as they put their feelings in bold then they don't need to make an argument, because the closing admin will only read the "delete" and add it to the tally. So I try to get people out of the habit of voting when nominating. Of course, there's nothing stopping you from doing it if you really want to. fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 14:35, 24 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Glyconutrient edit

I read your comment on the AfD nomination of Glyconutrient. Although this is almost certainly pseudoscience and an insult to experts in the field, the controvercey that it generates is probably worthy of an article. Deleting it would be disservice to Wikipedia in my view, because it is relevant in the same way that the Time Cube Theory is. Thanks, and happy editing. Bobby1011 06:33, 26 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your reconsideration on the AfD. I hope that you both will be more satisfied with the rewrite if current conventional technical b/g, issues and discussions can be surfaced and brought to bear. Good luck. --66.58.130.26 00:40, 8 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fuck Truck edit

Looks like the article survived its deletion debate. Would it really be possible for you to post a picture of it? If so, that would help the article quite a bit. Thanks! Interestingstuffadder 02:33, 4 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I appreciate that -- thanks again. Interestingstuffadder 03:07, 4 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
By th way, thanks for uploading the picture. Interestingstuffadder 01:13, 11 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

RFA Thanks edit

Thank you!
Thank you for your support in my recent RFA. It passed 53/1/2 and I am now an administrator. I appreciate that some of you made exceptions to your usual requirements re length of service and so on because we've interracted positively in the past, or because of my credentials, so I will endeavour to use my new mop cautiously. I'm always open to feedback and gently constructive criticism. If you're not an admin and need some assistance do of course please let me know. Thanks again --kingboyk 00:23, 6 March 2006 (UTC) Reply

P.S. If you are interested in The Beatles, User:Lar has asked me to tag on a little note advertising the creation of a new Beatles WikiProject that we are currently setting up. Please sign up and help.

Hi back edit

Sorry I took so long to respond to you. I've been antisocial due to immersion in research that isn't working very well. But it is nice to see fellow MIT people around here! I see you do some good local history work like Fuck Truck. I think you undergrads know more about that stuff than we grads do. The only thing I've really written about is the MIT Assassins' Guild moink 02:03, 7 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I used the standard procedure for proposed renames, as described at Wikipedia:Requested moves. -- Curps 02:27, 9 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
I wasn't even aware of the existence of Wikipedia:Naming conflict. Are there now two overlapping procedures for name changes?? -- Curps 02:45, 9 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Moving userpages? edit

When my anti-vandalism sockpuppet finaly gets the ability to do page moves, should obvious user-pages in aritice-space just be moved to the appropriate user page per Ms. Zang? Hpuppet 19:20, 10 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Looks like a user-page to me. Kids these days, I think? Who knows. Hpuppet 19:25, 10 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

My RfA edit

Hi, Isopropyl, thanks for voting in my RfA. It hasn't quite finished yet, but I'm just wondering... you've called me "A tireless anti-vandal" - that doesn't sound like me! Are you sure you didn't mean to vote in Naconkantari's RfA above? If so then please do vote there, I'd hate to deprive that editor of your support. If not, then, well, thanks! - maybe you meant the comment as a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy? :D Flowerparty 04:08, 11 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Apologies, Flowerparty. I flipped through to some random contributions of yours and thought that I had seen a swath of vandalism reverts; I guess I just got confused. However, I still support your adminship, as you are a tireless page mover and disambig-er. I shall change my vote to reflect this. Thanks for bringing it to my attention! Isopropyl 05:22, 11 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ha, ok. Thanks for your support, and I'm touched you still think I'm tireless. My RfA has passed with a final tally 62/0/1. You know where I am if you need to shout at me in future. Flowerparty 17:07, 11 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

My RfA edit

Hi Isopropyl. I wanted to thank you for taking the time to consider my RfA, which passed this morning, and particularly the effort you clearly gave to looking though my edits. If there's ever anything I can help you with, just ask; you know where to find me. By the way, while you're at MIT, make sure you get-out to see the Red Sox, even if you're not a baseball fan; it's a great experience. ×Meegs 07:28, 11 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
