Flags

By the way, I notice that in List of Formula One Grand Prix Podiums‎ you have used the San Marino flag to illustrate the San Marino Grand Prix. This is an incorrect usage of flags within wikipedia. The race was held in Italy and should be indicated with the Italian flag. This is similar for many other races like the European Grand Prix, many German Grands Prix that were held in West Germany, Luxembourg GP, some Swiss races and others. Riccardo Patrese did not become San Marinese when he won the San Marino Grand Prix, the same principal applies.

After all, you did not use the Indianapolis flag for the Indy 500, Dallas flag for Dallas Grand Prix, or invent flags for the Pacific, Pescara or Caesar's Palace Grands Prix etc. A single standard should be used for all races rather than one which is applied haphazardly.

Thanks for the extra info, I appreciate this little token of information. As you've kindly done that I should probably explain my attitude towards Wiki editing in general: I personally hate it when things are - or seem - wrong in media (which this is), especially when it comes to motorsport; articles we've argued over are largely due to me being a perfectionist and an idealist (e.g. Spain vs. Barcelona). This usually leads to me getting quite protective over things that I personally think are set out in the best possible way, but sometimes aren't, and as a result I get quite annoyed when people interfere.

This link also reminded me to look into that image licensing issue at some point, which I completely forgot about - but like I said before, that isn't a necessity. Again, thanks for the link and I hope my explanation assists you in how to 'deal' with me being an unappreciative idiot sometimes. Oh, and while I remember - do you think ERX event results should be included in the WRX event articles (where applicable) or not? IMO ERX should better have its own articles, as most people don't understand the difference anyway. IMG have made it all a bit clearer now, but still not clear enough for the Rallycross laity. RX-Guru (talk) 09:19, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

The issue with having event articles just about ERX is that it's information that can easily be covered in a WRX article as it's effectively been demoted to a support series, as it has no stand-alone events. Holdenman05 (talk) 03:31, 18 February 2016 (UTC)

Hi, IMG has listed the Hungarian as "CSUCSU" for Belgium, possibly because they put his nick in the same columne as the family names of the drivers, which they all write with capital letters. I prefer "Csucsu" as well, but it could differ from the official ERX lists over the whole season... RX-Guru (talk) 08:03, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

Driver order

Vandoorne follows Alonso, not Button because Vandoorne replaces Alonso. This was introduced when drivers adopted custom numbers - it was felt that there needed to be some way of discriminating as to who was in the car and when, so we use the rounds column for it.

Say for example that McLaren permanently replace Alonso and Button. Alonso is replaced by Vandoorne after Melbourne, and Button by de Vries after Silverstone. If you listed them chronologically, it would look like this:

Driver - Rounds

Alonso - 1

Button - 1-10

Vandoorne - 2-21

de Vries - 11-21

But if you do it based on which driver was in which car (don't forget Vandoorne inherits Alonso's power unit allocation), it looks like this:

Driver - Rounds

Alonso - 1

Vandoorne - 2-21

Button - 1-10

de Vries - 11-21

It makes it easier to follow which driver is in which car. Rossi joining Manor in 2015 is a prime example.

If you look at my original edit, I put the reference next to Vandoorne's entry as opposed to where I ended up moving it. Like I said, I very much doubt the chassis used by Alonso in Australia will be used in Bahrain. I was not aware that he would use the 2nd of Alonso's allocation of engines (which isn't an appropriate regulation under these circumstances but that's not our problem). I would also like to point out that with your example it would be simple logic to deduce that VAN replaced ALO and DEV replaced BUT. Either way, I'm not going to change it as I have no intention of getting in too many arguments over the F1 articles - that's not my area of 'jurisdiction'. Joker Lap

Hi Holdenman, I have overworked and extended the term Joker Lap here, but wonder if it would be better to make an own WP article for it. As English is not my mother-tongue this is possibly a better job for you... However, I'm willing to help. For example to check out where and when the JL was driven first (defo in Denmark, but as a shorter lap). Remember for example that Portugal wanted to introduce the JL in the ERX, but was hindered by the FIA for the first year they had already produced a JL slope at Lousada. It needs also to be included that a jump starter gets the order to drive the JL more often than just once... RX-Guru (talk) 09:40, 21 May 2016 (UTC)

Category deletion

Hello. If you believe that a category should be deleted, you should not simply remove it from a bunch of articles and blank the category page unilaterally as you did recently with Category:World RX. There is a procedure to go through to gain a consensus for this sort of thing, namely Categories for Discussion - I've put it up at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2016_August_11. I know nothing about this area, and you may well be right, but there's a way of going about this kind of thing. Bathurst 1000 results

Please consider using a less distracting colour than the current green. It puts way too much emphasis on those results; it also makes the result column for 1st/2nd/3rd look very out of place. If I react strongly, I want you to know that I dislike like puppeteering immensely and I resent the hell out of any accusation that I would participate in such an activity. I have been editting Wikipedia since April 2007 and I have never once resorted to such a tactic. Even in instances when my log in has expired while writing I've gone back and editted the entry to restore my name to the edit. That you feel you could make up such an accusation while professing to know my editorial behavior well is quite insulting. I have never resorted to such underhanded tactics. I do not care a jot about my popularity within wikipedia. I do care about my integrity. I've always apologised where I've done wrong in the past and I've always argued the point and not the editor. You know what, since you accuse me of not doing work on the articles in question, I'll do the work YOU SHOULD HAVE and show you where I base the previous upon.

If you look up the edit history of User:124.149.79.23 at [1] you will see the first edit this IP made was to add the long wikibreak template at Talk:Kytabu. (see here). Now why is it more likely that I would make such an edit rather than Kytabu, another editor with an interest in the some topic?

Next time you make an accusation of someone, do them the common courtesy of the basic research behind the accusation first. Making an easily disproven snap accusation is worse behavior, and considering the additional accusation of doing no work is hypocritical as well as being lazy.

A little story for you. I used to work with teenage boys - I still do now, but not to the extent I used to. In that role, you very quickly learn their individual behaviours and their drive, whether it be physical, emotional or other. People's cyber behaviour - notably among boys - is incredibly consistent, no matter how many times you try to change IP or profile or whatever, as the personality will always win through. Your messages and the unsigned one seemed very similar, almost coincidental. I don't believe in coincidence. You get the picture. I, like a lot of Novocastrians, will not lie down to a fight and have a very sharp tongue, so consider yourself lucky I didn't follow through with reporting action. Maybe not such an easy thing for you to do considering you are a little older than the boys I used to work with, but I suggest the dominating personality many men like yourself carry as a stigma of the 80s and before - which has rubbed off on boys today - should be dropped for the benefit of others, definitely here but maybe also in personal life if it so affects there as well. In between the my first post and response, I butchered a job interview and so a bad day was being had.

I don't mind admitting I was a bullying victim in my childhood and that it has affected me later in life most notably when I am wrongly accused because of the powerlessness I experienced as a teenager. The lack or maturity of the above does shame me slightly.

I apologise for the vitriol in my responses, but backing down ain't in my nature either, and I would have appreciated some effort put in like a simple check of the edit history of the IP number as I take puppeteering quite seriously and it would have made the ownership of the unsigned response quite obvious.

I have also been backing away from Wikipedia for sometime as my original aims of working with wikipedia have been achieved and I will be better off without indulging the darker parts of my personality. As to ownership? Like I said, I'm all but done with wikipedia. Do what you like.

If you feel the need to go ahead with a report because the obvious eludes you, then fine. Consider myself lucky? Not in the slightest. Ownership of the edit has been established and it wasn't me. Did you ever seen F1 tables to be added in the drivers' articles prior the season started without being reverted? That's the indication of consensus. Also your insulting shows that you failed to reason your position. The fact that somebody thanked you for it doesn't make this table necessary prior the finish of the first race of 2017 FIA Formula 2 Championship. I haven't competed with you for adding the table to Camara's article or for the like, if it was neccesary I can easily made that in the exact week when it was announced. Where I said about anyone? The conclusion was about you personally. It seems that you have read something other than I wrote. The appreciation of one user doesn't prove anything. You added the table the month before the finish of the first race. Anything can happen. For example, Robert Kubica crashed in the Rally in February 2011, but he had a contract in F1. What the sense was in the table prior that crash? Some drivers have contracts but loosing their funding prior the season, the round may be removed from the calendar, etc. So we certainly must wait for the finish of the first race. It's a results table, if it doesn't contain a result than what the purpose of the table? We already have the information that the driver will compete in the championship in the infobox and in the word form in the article. I suppose your level of perception isn't great, so I'll spell it out for you - being right doesn't mean that you must be correct, something which the much-disputed COMMONNAME is an example of. No-one could have predicted what happened to Kubica, we just used the information we have at our disposal which was that he was competing in the F1 season at that point in time. I have a crystal clear understanding of WP:CRYSTAL and including a line in a table for something that to all intents and purposes is going to happen is not a CRYSTAL contender. People know from a statistical standpoint that they will compete in the series that season. Seeing as there is nothing in the table would suggest to a reader that the season hasn't started yet, which it hasn't. As I have already stated, we are using the information and resources we have to come to a necessary conclusion - and in this case that conclusion is that Câmara, Gelael, Leclerc and everyone else you removed my edits from is competing in the 2017 F2 season. Also, I'm not suggesting that what is included is necessarily the ultimate truth (i.e. what is correct) - you are guilty of that yourself with VAR in Italian F4. CSR v Team 18

I have noticed that you have changed my Team 18 edits in the 2016 and 2017 V8 Supercars/Supercars pages. Everything I have read from 2016 so far states the team has been called Team 18. Team 18 is the entry name, Preston Hire Racing is the sponsor name, therefore Team 18 should be used unless you can find any current source that still calls the team Charlie Schwerkolt Racing. Hello! FYI, the same team may enter under different racing license usually for sponsorship reasons. For example, in 2008 Arden entered under Dutch racing license in GP2 Series, as well as in 2016, Campos Racing under Indonesian racing license. FIA prefix

The "FIA" prefix is necessary. Although the article is called 2017 Formula One season, it is named that way because it addresses all Formula One racing in a year (yes, I know that the World Championship is the only Formula One racing in the year, and yes I think that's the most ridiculous argument ever). Formula 2 only supports the World Championship—or, to give its proper name, the FIA Formula One World Championship. It doesn't support any Formula One racing outside the championship. De vs. de in Belgium, not in Holland!

Dus vertel maar liever aan iemand anders dat je weet wat je doet. Je bent toch niets anders dan een RX fan die zijn infos uit de diverse media haald. Feit is dat De Keersmaecker en De Ridder zich zelfs met groote D schrijven. En niet, omdat ze te stom zijn hun eigen familie naam te spellen! I don't speak the language so I have no idea what you said, but my family is from Dutch Limburg, and they refer to the language as Flemish. 'De', 'Van' and other surname prefixes are only capitalised when the forename is not used, e.g. Shane van Gisbergen vs. Van Gisbergen. The other time this is used when the surname begins after the end of a sentence. Seeing as the full names are used, the prefixes are lowercase. I don't think you realise that German is not the same as Dutch or Flemish yourself. As for your complaint, I am going off personal information and the references were not linked, so there is no argument here. The same goes for (inevitably) VW - and similarly WRX Austria - as they fall under COMMONNAME. One of you changed Mr O'Donovan under this criteria, so you have no argument there either. I myself can speak and write Dutch fluently. Here and here are the links that have shown up in red before. The language for The Netherlands and the Flemish part of Belgium is both Dutch, the old terms are Northern Dutch for Holland and Southern Dutch (aka Flemish) for Belgium, but the differences are more than many may think. In Dutch Limburg (just a 10kms drive from my doorsteps) they speak Limburgs, which is no language, but only a dialect. I agree, the people in Holland would write de Keersmaecker and de Ridder, but the people in Belgium write De Keersmaecker and De Ridder, like the two guys do themselves, as to be seen on their own Facebooks. Or do you think they are just too dumb to spell their own names? Or should they follow the rules in The Netherlands, because the Dutch know better what to do? However, I'm no longer interested to deal with Rallycross "fans" who think they know all, because they get their info from all kind of media rather than having insider knowledge or being to the WRX and ERX venues themselves. My advice to you

If I may return the favor, next time you remove content as a result of a discussion it might be helpful to add in your edit summary that there was a discussion, so that you don't look like you are removing content because you think you know better, the same goes for if you remove content due to a wiki(project) policy. Also please don't assume that just because I am younger I am unable to take criticism, don't stereotype, my age is irrelevant, it is about my expirence, after 18 months I know how wikipedia works, just because I reverted your removal of content, (for which you didn't give a good justification until after several reverts) doesn't mean I think I know better because frankly from my point of view it looked like you were the one who thought they knew better. When you remove content can you please make sure that you check your edits, when you removed the drivers timelines you left citations which were undefined (here and here are examples to list 2), rather than indiscriminately removing everything as a result of a discussion please check to make sure you haven't broken anything in the article, please be more careful in future. There are articles and everything is linked in the most efficient way, as has been done with every single driver article ever created - that's how Wikipedia works. Bear in mind also that if you decide to revert my edits on the drivers you will trigger 3RR as you initiated the changes and I will pull you up for it as you are clearly following your own agenda. Putting "female" in the lead as an adjective, and not doing so for men, that is ghettoizing women. @Drmies: My problem is people like yourself who have not done an ounce of research into WP:MOTOR, relating what we do and how we work. You're more than welcome to try and "fix" other people's "mistakes", but you're eventually going to end up pissing off a bigger fish in this community with your standover tactics and those people will argue much harder than I'm going to. You talk about "ghettoization" (if you want nonsensical terms, that's a perfect one - a very loose manipulation of the Collins/Cambridge dictionary) but what you do to perceived 'lesser users' is hardly any better. If MOTOR works in a way that marks female racing drivers by their gender in the opening line, and doesn't do the same thing for men, then MOTOR needs to change that. As for ghettoization being a "nonsensical term": the OED cites an example from 1939 already. Hardly an attack. If you bothered to read the other pages before editing them you'd see they are well sourced and informed, unlike this one. I did not create that particular one for a reason, and I use the following example where Marta García (racing driver) would be considered as notable but has been removed on multiple occasions whereas Vivien Keszthelyi and Amna Al Qubaisi are much less notable and very obviously self-made and yet do not attract criticism.
