Lord Trenchard and Sir Christopher Bullock

hello - I saw that you undid my Trenchard edit. My research shows that the Trenchard/Bullock relationship was a vital one at a most critical time for the establishment of the permanent and independent RAF, without which the Battle of Britain would probably have been lost. Trenchard's comments on Bullock delivered by Lord Geoffrey-Lloyd confirm this and I have placed the relevant evidence in Commons.[1] I hope this helps you to see why the edit was made and is indeed of great historical significance. If you think there is a better way of recording the analysis, do let me know. (Hjwb500 (talk) 09:55, 15 August 2010 (UTC))

I note the crossreference is now there which completes the picture. Huguº 17:52, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi again. The length of the picture of the Indian Air Marshal creates white space issues. On-the-other-hand, the extra length includes the medals & ribbons. (i.e. worth having.)

Alec Ogilvie (early aviator)

I noticed that you had added a red-link to Alec Ogilvie in the list of R.Ae.C. certificates in 1910. I have been looking for information about this Ogilvie but have drawn a blank. He could have come from a family of Welsh coal-mine owners (or owners of Welsh coal-mines) but I can find no proof of identity. Can you help with him? Thanks. --TraceyR (talk) 13:53, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 01:39, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

1944 Cheshunt B 24 Bomber crash

Can you have a look at 1944 Cheshunt B 24 Bomber crash and leave an opinion/comment, I have been researching WWII bomber crashes in the UK and have been adding these to the wiki articles of the locality that they occur in, however I have found a template for aircrashes which suggested that these should have their own article, when starting the above article I have had nothing but trouble. This is also relevant to: LM616 (KO J) Bomber crash 1944 Offley. Thanks Pandaplodder (talk) 18:31, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

6*

Six-star rank is a term used to collectively describe the ranks superior to five-star ranks - citation needed. Fair comment. Have you any advice or suggestions on where to find a reliable reference on the definition of 6*? (To date, no-one has come up with anything better, or anything with a reliable supporting reference.) Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 14:05, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

My view is that the article ought to be re-named along the lines of "ranks senior to 5 star rank" because I doubt that there is a reliable source that than backs up the statement that "Six-star rank is a term used to collectively describe the ranks superior to five-star ranks". Greenshed (talk) 18:37, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
Good idea! (Or at least, I think that is a good idea.)
because I doubt that ... - Yes, I suspect / expect that you are right.
So where do we go from here? Hmmm. Wrong question. I think the "where" is to rename the article. Or have I mis-understood you? If so, please clarify. If not, then I think a better question is:
So how should we do that? Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 10:54, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
(You can reply here - you're on my watchlist, and I like to see both sides of the conversation in the one place. On the other hand, if you prefer to reply on my talk page, please do.)
Hmmm. I think I prefer your first suggestion, but really, I don't know what the best answer is. Pdfpdf (talk) 11:37, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Arthur Kellam Tylee

Thanks for contributing to the Arthur Kellam Tylee article. Do you know what happened to Tylee after he ceased to command the Canadian Air Force? I have been trying to find out without success. Greenshed (talk) 20:58, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi. Coincidentally, I was curious about this as well and I just finished doing a thorough search in my personal references, and online and found nothing. The next time I'm at the local military museum library, I'll check. The only information I have is that he was an officer with the old CAF before 1924. I found no evidence he was with the RCAF - hence my category removal. You wouldn't happen to have any more info about the Canadian Air Force (1920–1924)? I started the article and it could use some expansion. There is some info on the DND site that could be used, but more/better detail would help. I do have some more of my own information but there are some discrepancies with my sources. BC  talk to me 21:51, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Template:Military ranks

I'm interested in your POV. If the template is not going to contain every sub-rank of Admiral/General/Air marshal, then to me it seems inconsistent to include LtCol, LCdr, Sub-Lt and 2Lt. Your thoughts? Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 01:26, 26 March 2011 (UTC)

To be honest I am not totally against expanding out the star officer ranks but I am happy to go with the consensus which appears to have been against it. The reason why both Lt-Col/Col and Cdr/Lt-Cdr need to be expanded out is because otherwise the generic equivalences would not be clear. I.e. Col = Capt = Gp Capt but Lt-Col != Lt-Capt !=Lt-Gp Capt (fictional ranks used for illustration). It this were the case then the entire Lt-Col, Lt-Capt, Lt-Gp Capt row could be eliminated. Greenshed (talk) 13:54, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. I'm ambivalent about what's in and what's out, but I'm a little pedantic about consistency. Yes, I agree that an "entire Lt-Col, Lt-Capt, Lt-Gp Capt row could be eliminated". However, although Admiral & General are 4*, Air Marshal is 3*. I guess I should take it up on the talk page. But perhaps not - there are more interesting things to do! Proposed deletion of Orly Weinerman

The article Orly Weinerman has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 00:35, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
