If you're on Windows, you could try holding Alt and typing "200e". Or you could just copy and paste a string that contains the character, like this: '‎'' You could also create a template like {{subst:User:Anomie/LRM}} that will insert that single character when substed. Really, just about anywhere that makes sense. You could put it just after the last Arabic character (remember, in this context that may mean "to the left of the leftmost"), or in between the '''s, or between there and the }}, or even in the place of "born". Entering something like '''Hardan ’Abdul Ghaffar al-Tikriti''' ({{lang-ar|'''حردان عبدالغفار التكريتي{{subst:User:Anomie/LRM}}'''}}) (1925... should work perfectly. Italian Air Force ensign

Hi! No, the Aeronautica Militare don't have a distinctive flag, but use a normal Italian flag, like any other military corp of Italy, the so called war flag (these flags are eventually awarded whit medals). You can find the Aeronautica Militare war flag here: http://www.aeronautica.difesa.it/htm/bandiera.asp. MRAF is a 5 star rank
Although I agree with you, there are many who don't and insist on removing such statements. Hence my statement: Marshal of the Royal Air Force is equivalent to a 5 star rank, which is indisputable whatever one's point of view is.
Can you supply a reliable source to support MRAF is a 5 star rank? If not, might it not be less contentious to restore the statement Marshal of the Royal Air Force is equivalent to a 5 star rank?

Hi again. I have only the book "The Royal Flying Corps in World War I" from the series "A Brief History" was published in 2002. Its a compilation of the 2 Volume set "The Royal Flying Coprs in France" published 1995. There is no photo of him inside. I could only ask Alex Revell if he knows his address or ask a friend who is in the RAF if there are any photos of him. Not sure if this will turn out something but the man is now 90 or 91 years. I've restored the category as you requested. When I deleted it, it was part of several speedies that I was taking care of right then. Frankly, I've never been comfortable with that speedy deletion criterion, since as far as I know there's no way to know whether the category has been empty for four days if you don't check it regularly. Trenchard Articles

Hi Greenshed. I have read the German article Hugh Trenchard, it is very rudimentary and misses a lot of material. There is nothing about his time in africa, almost nothing about pre-wwi, little about wwi and not enough about WWII. Also it lacks the more important boxes at the end of the article. In the english article under subchapter "Flying School" we should clarify under which circumstances Trenchard earned his wings. Ralph Barker writes in his book that it was only possible for him to do it before he was 40 years because he was helped by a friend who was with him in Africa who then worked at the flying school. Also a friend of mine who is in the RAF has found it very doubious how he could accomplish to earn his before he got 40. He thinks that Trenchard had signed the papers probably by himself. Is there any explicit mention in the Andrew Boyle source about this incident? I dont have this book in my library. Outstanding work on the english article so far. Military ranks template

Perhaps you can help? I'm really puzzled. I really don't understand the point of this template in its revised form. To me, it's worse than useless because it's misleading. The 2* & 3* ranks have been removed, and Air Marshal is on the same row as General & Admiral, implying they are equivalent, when we both know that they are not. Can you explain to me why the 2* & 3* ranks have been removed? (After all, they are much more common than the 4* and 5* ranks which are still in the table!!). Mmmm. I guess there is some sort of internally consistent logic to it. However, I have to admit that I am still a bit puzzled by the rationale. No matter - it no doubt "seemed like a good idea at the time" to someone ...

I am doing OK with the older Commandants and can find plenty of stuff for the articles...up to about 1976. I cannot find anything on the following more recent encumbants and wonder if you might have any other sources that will help with building their RAF career details?:

• Air Commodore M H Miller 1976

• Air Commodore John F. G. Howe 1977 (later Air Vice Marshal) - the first Commandant I served under as a wholetime officer

• Air Commodore Raymond J Offord 1980

• Air Commodore George P Black 1983 (later Air Vice Marshal)

I have added another reference to the Spink article. As for the others, I cannot readily find any good references. Are they are all still alive? Deceased air officers often have obituaries published. Also, the author of www.rafweb.com (Malcolm Barrass) may well create an article for any deceased air officer from the air force lists and his wider reference materials. Additionally, I think that he will do this for any living air officers if they request this personally - do you know any of the above socially? Greenshed (talk) 20:33, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Hmmm, I have just had an email from my old boss, Senior Administration Officer at HQROC....now I actually left the Corps a little bit before final stand down so was not aware of the final days....The S Ad O says:

"Regretably that is not quite accurate, in the first place, Group Captain Cliff Spink was only Commandant ROC until March 1993, from March 1993 to June 1995, he had moved across the road as an Air Vice Marshall to the job of SASO, Senior Air Staff Officer 11 Group, RAF Bentley Priory. He had handed over the appointment of Commandant ROC to Air Commodore Martin Widdowson, who held the appointment jointly while also SASO 18 Group. By the time the Corps was actually stood down, Cliff Spink had been appointed Air Marshall with a very high level Saudi Arabian responsibility, not sure what the title actually was." 21stCenturyGreenstuff (talk) 21:41, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Andrew Wilson

Bit confusing but I did find London Gazette 54167 on 25 September 1995, Air Chief Marshal R.A.F.Wilson KCB, AFC, ADC, FRAes premature retirement 26 August 1995. Which would indicate they are the same. Appears to have changed from RAF to Andrew when he became an Air Marshal but so far not found any promotion notices or honours and awards ! Category:1506 disestablishments

I notice that this category you created is unpopulated (empty). In other words, no Wikipedia pages belong to (are members of) it. If it remains unpopulated for four days, it may be deleted, without discussion, in accordance with Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#C1. I'm notifying you in case you wish to (re-)populate it by adding [[Category:1506 disestablishments]] to articles/categories that belong in it.

I have also blanked the category page. This will not, in itself, cause the category to be deleted. It serves to document (in the page history) that the category was empty at the time of blanking and also to alert other watchers that the category is in jeopardy. You are welcome to revert the blanking if you wish. However, doing so will not prevent deletion if the category remains empty.

If you created the category in error, or it is no longer needed, you can speed up the deletion process by tagging it with {{db-author}}.

Richard Williams & Palestine Brigade

Hi mate, I'm dubious about the Palestine Brigade appointment if RAF Web is the only reference - I've used that site often in B/GA-class articles but to be honest I doubt it cuts the mustard as a reliable source at FA level. None of my other refs mention Williams as anything higher than 40th Wing commander so unless there's further authoritative citations somewhere I think we should delete it. Template protection

I protected Template:Navy because it has a very high number of transclusions - more than 2,000. By contrast, Template:Air force has less than 500 and Template:Army less than 50. I've semiprotected the air force template but the other one isn't a big enough risk to warrant protection. Hut 8.5 18:36, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
