Wikipedia:Rollback feature

Hello, I thought you might be interested in gaining rollback access for your account. This feature allows you to rapidly revert vandalism and other highly inappropriate edits in one click, which you might find helpful for Eurovision articles which can be the subject of vandalism. Please let me know here or on my talk page if you want this feature so I can quickly add you. Camaron | Chris (talk) 18:57, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Looks like a good feature. This will come in handy when Eurovision season is in full swing again. Thanks for offering this to me. Greekboy (talk) 23:29, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision#Reliability of ESCKaz

I have started a Wikipedia:Request for comment on this topic at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision#RfC on ESCKaz reliability. This discussion originates from questions on the reliability of the ESCKaz website and if it should be used in Eurovision articles on Wikipedia. It has now being extended to fully review all sources used in articles covered by WikiProject Eurovision, including ESCToday and Oikotimes. This is a very important issue to the project as sourcing is a key part of articles, and consensus needs to be reached on which sources should be used when, where and how. This discussion however has so far lacked a wide range of editor participation, and as you have listed yourself as a member of WikiProject Eurovision I invite you to add your thoughts. In particular more input is needed from editors which have a high level of experience with relevant guidelines/policies such as Wikipedia:Reliable sources and Wikipedia:Verifiability, and who have up until now stayed outside this debate, though all contributions are welcome. Thank you. Camaron | Chris (talk) 11:11, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Please do not vandalise the Sakis Rouvas template. Information that was on there is relevant to the singers career and releases and thus nothing needed to be taken out! GRstar2008 —Preceding unsigned comment added by GRstar2008 (talkcontribs) 00:35, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

A Eurovision article that needs urgent attention!

I dropped this off at Grk1011's page too, but you may want to make a feasible article out of Elpida Karayianopoulou, considering what impact she had on Greek music. Mike H. Fierce! 23:34, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 GAR

Hi Greekboy, I've opened a reassessment on Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 as I feel there should be greater encyclopedic information (broad coverage) within the article. I don't think it would take much work to bring it up to scratch as all the information is already out there, some of it in place on Wikipedia. But it would be worth people doing the work as the article is used as an example of a "FOO in the Eurovision Song Contest YEAR" Good Article, and it would be worth giving people something reasonably comprehensive and worthwhile to work toward. SilkTork *YES! 13:38, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

I actually disagree with you. Every country has a different selection process every year, different amount of songs, different amount of singers, ect. There is no way you can have 1 format for every country. You can have a common guideline of information to provide (like it is now) but not the same exact format. I actually think that Greece in ESC 2008 provides substantial information already. It provides information about the songs in the running, who composed them, ect. For example, on the portugal page, there is a whole section on "Producers", which is completely irrelevant to Greece in ESC. Other than that, all the info is already in the article, but just in a different format that fits the selection process better. (Besides and artist bio which I honestly do not think is needed on this page. This is about the contest, not what she has done. That is what linking is for) Greekboy (talk) 19:01, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Rouvas

Intro info

Hey Greekboy, FYI I don't know how you took it, but the first source was not a fan book. It is a specialty magazine with its own publishing company that does biographies on artists and is in no way related to one artist in particular. Almost ALL sources online and on tv will credit Rouvas as Greece's first pop singer, AND it did not say that he popularized Western genres, but that he HELPED, which is true and can even be proven by the timeline that those genres became present within Greek music. BTW, you did not have to take out everything, the sales were referenced. I am going to put some of the stuff I think is appropriate back in. Please look over it and check over the reference first before trying to remove it. For all editors, I believe that complete reversion of an edit is destructive to Wiki, you can simply just take out what you don't like instead. (GreekStar12 (talk) 03:01, 27 January 2009 (UTC))

Perhaps that was my mistake due to the way I referenced it. Maybe I should have ref'd it as a magazine as I think it is moreso than a book. The magazine is Afisorama, "The Ultimate Pop Star", as they were doing a special issue on Rouvas before ESC 2004, was just a heading and not the title of the book. I'll clear that up if I ever decide to use it again, as it really is a reliable source. (Like any other magazines, it speaks of its featured artist in a positive light, but however provides information that has been both previously stated and uses fact and can be found for other artists as well.)
Secondly, I am having some trouble with what some may consider POV. I realize all-time classics may seem as POV to some, but I call them that as they have been called so by the record label, tv, magazines and radio stations (songs such as "Den Ehi Sidera I Kardia Sou", "Ipirhes Panda", "Andexa", "Xana" have all peaked at number 1 for weeks, have been featured on numerous tv programs, covered by other artists, supposedly giving them this title) With ESC coming up, I have given a priority to the Rouvas articles. I feel that a lot of the Greek articles simply just miss the mark on some artists and don't really communicate what the artists represent or are known for. For anyone who knows Rouvas as an artist, they would know of the hysteria of his fans and his stage shows that have been differentiated from other Greek artists as well as the over-sexualized image that is a given to those exposed to it, but are difficult to reference. I want to incorporate some of this information without sounding POV, but am not sure how to do that about his image. (I want other users to understand that I AM NOT the one saying these things). What do you think?
In general, Greek articles are difficult to find sources for about image due to the language barrier and there's not very good information as there are on English artists. (I've noticed that even some of the artists' official websites have many mistakes and are barely reliable). A lot of reliable information is mentioned on various t.v. shows in Greece, moreso than on the internet, so do you think that this could be solved with some GOOD television references?? Thanks in advance (GreekStar12 (talk) 03:54, 27 January 2009 (UTC))
Hello Greekboy. Sorry I haven't responded to your help. I appreciate it and it did clear some things up. I will try to continue improving these articles under these guidelines. I noticed that you put my book ref back in, but I think I will fix it as I do believe I cited it wrong (citing it as a book instead of a specialty mag). Anyway, the intro looks good now. BTW, I did not know that it was you that expanded the Rouvas article so much last summer; (That was before I became a user) I must commend you for doing an excellent job on it! Anyway, to answer your question, I was at Rouvas and Remos' concert in March too, and they both did say the same thing. However, I believe that what was meant was that Remos had come and toured in N.America for the Greek community there, while Rouvas had not ever sung specifically for the Greek public. This does not mean, however that Rouvas had never performed in the US for the American public (club tours, featured performances etc). Although I am not completely sure, I believe the Ola Kala Tour did include some American stops (as all of the album's personnel including producers and choreographers were American and Rouvas spent a lot of time in the U.S. at the time). I've heard it often being called a world tour however, as it did include 20 shows in France (A few of which were at Olympia), as well as performances across Europe, in North Africa and the Middle East, so it was not just a tour of Europe. Hope that helps.
Also, I am thinking that when the esc songs come out, there should be an article made for each of the songs as all three are significant candidates, using song infoboxes instead of the single/eurovision infobox, until February 18th, when a single/esc participant page can be appropriated. I think that the articles for the other 2 should be kept just as song articles, as they are significant in Greece's ESC 2009. Regarding the singles template, when I made it, I was thinking of creating articles for all of these singles when I had the time. Although Greek singles aren't released as CDs, I think that they are still important and that although it would be difficult to get chart info on the older ones, there could still be enough information by talking about their videos, compositions, etc. (GreekStar12 (talk) 05:12, 31 January 2009 (UTC))

Individual singles

I don't really understand why all of the individual singles wouldn't meet notability guidelines, though. Although I do realize that some of them may end up with expansion tags, I don't see why it may not work out. I read in the Wiki guidelines that there is a controversy between certain users: ones who believe (especially in music) that only certain information is notable enough to be made into an article, while others believe that all albums and singles are notable enough if they provide the reader with information that is not suited to be in other articles. I guess it really just depends on the individual user; I've seen airplay singles articles for Paparizou and Garbi without any problems, although they too are small articles, so I was just wondering about it. I believe that there probably will be enough background information to discuss on the three individual songs, and IF there is, I've seen many song articles (with the grey song infobox as they are not official singles) that do not have chart information up if it is an important part of an artist's career, so I think it's safe to say we'll have to wait. (GreekStar12 (talk) 08:23, 31 January 2009 (UTC))

Hey, thanks for the info! I read that one has already been merged, and I think that's good that "Teardrops" has been merged to its album, as it was barely even a single (while having charted, its release was cancelled abroad as was cancelled for the single "The Game of Love".) To be honest, the Paparizou articles aren't really a priority of mine, but I looked over "Porta Gia Ton Ourano" and "I Kardia Sou Petra" and they look fine to me. Sure they haven't changed the Greek music industry or anything super-significant like that, but they are not stubs. There is a good amount of information on both of them that would not be able to be presented in the same organized way in the album page.
I think that (seeing as how "Porta Gia Ton Ourano" and "IKardia Sou Petra" are not stubs), they should be kept and articles about songs of similar length and format should also be kept. I think something else that would help these articles become more notable are talking about the awards won, its use in promotion, and most of all, its composition: the actual musical information about the song, for instance key signature, time signature, vocal range, expression. A majority of all good english song articles talk about this stuff. Being a musician, I was always quite surprised that none of the Greek articles ever talked about anything like this. I get the point about the article needing not to be a stub and having substantial info, but I think otherwise, if users worked towards it, most radio single articles could be all right. In some cases, I think that the only difference between the CD singles and radio singles are the lack of album covers for the latter, lol (when looking over some Greek CD single articles now).(GreekStar12 (talk) 20:29, 31 January 2009 (UTC))

Oh, BTW, I almost forgot to ask. Pretty soon I was looking into making an article for the CD single "Pes Tis" by Sakis Rouvas, however, the English and French versions of it "Feelings" and "Dis Lui", were also released as singles. I don't know if making them all into one article would be appropriate as they all had individual physical CD releases, were released in different countries by different labels, had different writers, and had their own chart positions. In this case, I was thinking that the right thing to do is make an article for "Pes Tis" and "Dis Lui" seperately, while making a section about the Rouvas cover on the Morris Albert song article. Sound OK? PS, I know that the problem is that most users don't know about musical structure, making things a little harder. However, I do know about this stuff, and although I strongly doubt there will be many sources saying "'bla bla bla' is a song written in 4/4 time, in the key signature of D minor, with a starting note of A on the space", what I have seen is images of the scoresheet included in the article. This info can easily be obtained from just looking at a score and thus is hard to argue. (GreekStar12 (talk) 20:48, 31 January 2009 (UTC))

Urgent action needed on Commons

You have already been notified that your uploads that have been transferred to Commons are up for deletion at Commons:Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Greekboy on en.wikipedia, a response from you would be very helpful here. You don't seem to have an account on Commons but you can easily create one like on the English Wikipedia. Alternatively you can merge your account so it works under the name Greekboy on all Wikimedia Projects, please go to Special:MergeAccount to do this. The deletion request centres around an accusation that you stole an image from GettyImages. Per "innocent until proven guilty" and my interactions with you I am assuming at present that these accusations are false. However if you did steal the image, or others, I highly recommend you go to the deletion request and come clean now, no further action will likely be taken against you (except deletion of the offending images) and not doing so may have more severe consequences later. I received information that you responded to this deletion request in private correspondence, and that it turns out some images are your own and some are used with permission. Even if you don't want to go through the long process of obtaining evidence of permission so the images can stay on Commons, it would be highly appreciated if you identified which images have been uploaded as your own work, but are actually permission based, so the licences can be corrected and the images later deleted if evidence of permission is not provided. Otherwise all your uploaded images, including potentially those on the English Wikipedia, may be blanket deleted instead. Not responding to the deletion request will leave a dark cloud over your head, as these are serious accusations being made, and by not responding it may be assumed that these accusations are true. I am aware that you are wikibonked, but it is worth your time helping us sort this issue out. Camaron · Christopher · talk 13:50, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

Rouvas edits

The merging the Rouvas personal life section into the main body was already discussed on the talk page, the personal life desrupts the flow of the article and generally puts undue weight on things that don't need it. Things like the military service stuff should be up top with the respective album, so if it were up there, than the military service would be an impacting event of the time period. Also, since in the discography section years are indicated by brackets after the album, in order to maintain consistency, the same thing should be done for the prose. Orphaned non-free image File:Kalomoira-Secrect Cominations The Album.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Kalomoira-Secrect Cominations The Album.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 07:16, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Olympic Air codeshares

Hi Greekboy, I noticed that you reverted my edit. I think it is general consensus to have a section of codeshare partners at airline articles, but to not list codeshare destinations (because codeshare flights are still operated by another airline than the one the article is about). A Delta flights stays a Delta flights, even though the ticket is issued by Olympic Air. I appreciate your thoughts and comments. I dare say that I intend to re-revert this edit in case you cannot proof me wrong. Per aspera ad Astra (talk) 14:04, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure about the rest, but I think there should be some mention of the JFK flight, since it is sold directly on Olympic's site and they advertise it as their destination. They even applied with DOT for it if that counts for anything. Greekboy (talk) 21:06, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
Once again, codeshare flights are meant to be sold by both airlines, and they usually show on both route maps. Still, these flights have only one carrier operating it, even though others may issue tickets. Here at Wikipedia (per WP:NOTTRAVEL) we have articles on airlines to show their significance and importance. This is why we list codeshare partnerships. On which routes these agreements apply can change without further notice, and does not bring any more information. Those interested in it will find out that Delta is an American airline, therefore linking Athens to the US via its New York hub. As I see the matter, it is general consensus not to list codeshare destinations. I have changed the article accordingly. Per aspera ad Astra (talk) 08:09, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:ProtereotitaEuroEditionMambo!.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:ProtereotitaEuroEditionMambo!.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. FASTILYsock(TALK) 23:43, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Dear GreekBoy, in order to avoid an edit war, I feel the obligation to tell you that, the page you used as a source for reverting my changes, is outdated and/or unreliable. See the article's discussion page for more details about the reasons I reverted your changes.
Friendly regards
Astromahitis (talk) 12:19, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

GreekBoy I was rather polite; you were rather rude. Since I am older than you and more experienced, I will not undo your changes immediately. Instead I will give you 24 hours to visit the talk page and discus the subject so that we will not end up in edit war. Wikipedia is based on the ideal of consensus decision-making, which at my opinion people like you, with your stance, erode it. If you don't show up, to end up in an acceptable solution, I will undo your changes and request the assistance of a moderator to take disciplinary actions against you. Sorry but I am not threatening you; I'm just warning you.

Initialy I call you "Dear" and send you "Friendly regards" without even knowing you. You didn't write any comment about it on my talk page! You headed straight to the meat and undid my edit. It seems that Omegatron was right: "I now know that Wikipedians rarely talk to each other unless they're complaining about something". Anyway, I am still waiting for you, to have a discussion without grudge and offenses. Honestly.--Astromahitis (talk) 10:31, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:ESC 2007 Latvia - Bonaparti.lv - Questa Notte.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:ESC 2007 Latvia - Bonaparti.lv - Questa Notte.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 21:32, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

Green Lantern

Greetings. I notice you're getting involved with a Six Flags fanboy who's uploading images for Six Flags Great Adventure's new Green Lantern. I'm dealing with the same IP over at Six Flags Over Georgia's new Dare Devil Dive. In the case of Green Lantern, if this were a totally new roller coaster, I would think that the artwork would be acceptable, but since this is a relocation of an existing roller coaster that already has substantial free images, I don't think adding a copyrighted, photo-shopped image is going to help ... but that is merely my two cents. --McDoobAU93 03:22, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, those were my initial thoughts as well. But then I thought that it may be acceptable as it is portraying a new theme. But you are probably right, and there are more than enough free images to portray the ride for now. Thanks for your input! Greekboy (talk) 03:26, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your edits to Green Lantern (roller coaster), it is recommended that you use the preview button before you save; this helps you find any errors you have made, reduces edit conflicts, and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history. Thank you. I value your contributions, however, over 35 edits in 2 days on the one article is pretty over-the-top. Please consider hitting the main edit button in the title bar rather than editing individual sections at a time. Themeparkgc  Talk  01:32, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

License tagging for File:To Nisi Title Card.png

Thanks for uploading File:To Nisi Title Card.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 03:05, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Twitter

Per WP:RS twitter is only occasionally a reliable source. Specifically WP:TWITTER says " A specific tweet may be useful as a self-published, primary source." keyword being maybe. There is no rush to add music video information as it will be available from more reliable sources in due course. If there was an issue with the information never being revealed by other sources then there is a difference. However something as high profile as this will be reported properly in due course and hence I don't see the need to let down the standards of the article with a semi-reliable source. -- Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 02:37, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

WP:TWITTER says "maybe". That also works the other way. There is no reason not to include reliably sourced information (per WP:RS) just because a source you feel is more reliable will be published later. There is no let down in standards as adding the twitter ref is well within guidelines. The "maybe" relates to the numbered list as seen here Wikipedia:RS#Self-published_and_questionable_sources_as_sources_on_themselves, which this specific twitter passes. As it is her own video, she would have first hand knowledge of who is involved. Also, just a quick search in the archives of Wikipedia talk:Identifying reliable sources reveals that the twitter issue/question has in fact been brought up in the past, and as discussed here, it was determined they can be used for things a Verified account says. Greekboy (talk) 02:56, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Okies in the interest of sensibility... Add the source back if you want... I won't revert. Equally I won't argue to save it if others choose to remove it. What I will say is that if a non-questionable/non controversial source appears where there is no self-publishing issues etc then Twitter should be removed and replaced. Fair compromise? -- Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 03:00, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
I am completely ok with that. I have no problems and accept that there are "more reliable" sources out there (in terms of wiki), but as of right now this twitter is the only one existing to source the info. A different source will show up sooner or later. It just doesn't make much sense to not include information until then. Greekboy (talk) 03:05, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Fine with me. =) -- Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 03:06, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

I recall that after that I clicked the main edit tab at the top of the section, and fixed the sp mistake, but I guess somehow Frank Freyer must have been deleted in the process. Seems like some sort of glitch? Regardless, I am really sorry for the deletion. Greekboy (talk) 02:00, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:XFactorUSlogo.png

Thanks for uploading File:XFactorUSlogo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 05:16, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

Cherry Hill Mall

Greekboy, you're WRONG about Cherry Hill Mall in NJ. It wasn't the first mall on the East Coast. Harundale in 1958 was. You should look at facts before you just post, what you want to post especially when it's not factual. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ljtayl3 (talkcontribs) 12:48, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Before you go accusing me of posting nonfactual material, please take a look at WP:CITE. Wikipedia works with reliable sources. The sources I posted to back up the claim are in fact reliable sources. I see that the Harundale mall source is from a government archive, so for the time being I have added what I think is a fair compromise to the Cherry Hill Mall article until more sources can be found to sort out the issue. Hi. When you recently edited To Nisi, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page TV1 (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). WikiProject Eurovision: This is a reminder to all members of Project Eurovision, that there is still an ongoing RfC discussion taking place at the project talk page. Message from the Editorial Team

Bienvenue! Willkommen! Welcome!

Please be warm-hearted in encouraging everyone to do their best to contribute to all Eurovision-related Wikipedia articles, and welcome our new members to the project. It is easy for editors to get into conflict with each other, and things can get very nasty on the most trivial of issues, whether that be on the language of songs, the names of certain countries, or how we deal with incidents at the contest. In such circumstances it is worth remembering one thing: we are all here to build an encyclopedia, and the contribution of Eurovision to human knowledge can only be given justice if we work together and make articles, not drama!

  • If you would like something to appear in the August 2012 Edition of the newsletter, then please inform us at the Project Newsdesk.
  • If there is an article you think we should have? Request it here.

Happy editing!

Project News
  • When creating new articles about a performer or song, please remember to add sources either from Eurovision.tv, ESCToday or other reliable sources. If you're not sure a source is reliable enough, then ask the project for an opinion.
  • Remember to only add content to articles that is relevant to the article's main subject. Anything not in relation to the article may be questioned and/or subject to redirection to an article that would benefit it's inclusion. Again if in doubt, ask on the article or project talk pages for an opinion - communication is an important tool.
  • On the subject of communication, please make use of the article talk pages. They are a vital tool in conducting consensus talks of additions of proposed new sections and/or removal of unnecessary section. If you don't use these pages to put across your views, then you only have yourself to blame if actions are taken that you disagree with and you end up wandering into edit warring territory.
  • The 2012 season of Eurovision has drawn to a close, and we now start preparations for the 2013 edition. While things will be slow to start of with, now is the ideal opportunity to do a clean-up exercise across articles relating to the project. There's over 4,500 articles associated with the project. If you happen to see a Eurovision related article without the {{EurovisionNotice}} template on the article's talk page, please add it. You can also read Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment if you would like to help assess or reassess articles in our project if you see that they have outgrown their current assessment. There is currently one unassessed article.
  • And finally... a massive thank you to all members of the project for your constant hard work on collaborating and contributing to Eurovision related articles. Keep up the good work team!

Project Alerts
Headlines
Project Gossip
  • The RfC discussion in regards to article layout, is still taking place on the project talk page. Could all members please ensure that they participate in the discussion so that we can all agree on important article structure issues. If you don't take part, then you only have yourselves to blame if a consensus is passed that you disagree with.

Orphaned non-free media (File:OlympiaOdosMap.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:OlympiaOdosMap.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

WikiProject Eurovision: Recent changes

Hello,

Please note that there have been some changes to operations surrounding Eurovision articles, these being that:

  • Template names have now been modernised and/or megred into super-templates, for example Countries in the Eurovision Song Contest has now been merged into Template:Eurovision Song Contest making it even easier to find everything under one template. If you are planning to create a new template, please keep the standardised titles in mind. Other templates have been modernised and a full list of them can be found here.
  • The Eurovision Song Contest and Junior Eurovision Song Contest articles have now been standardised to keep a consitancy throughout the project and to the genral reader too. Skeleton article drafts can be found for Eurovision Song Contest by Year and Junior Eurovision Song Contest by Year.

Speedy deletion nomination of File:OlympiaOdosMap.jpg

A tag has been placed on File:OlympiaOdosMap.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Imzadi 1979  21:32, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Sarbel eurovisionTV.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Sarbel eurovisionTV.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. VernoWhitney (talk) 22:52, 5 December 2012 (UTC)
