Can you take a quick look

Hey Ben, would you (or any talk page stalkers) mind taking a look at these two articles I created in my userspace? User:Dainomite/Michael Caputo and User:Dainomite/T.J. Edwards Do you think they're good enough to be moved to article space? Any other input you'd like to provide would be much appreciated. Thank you! —  dainomite   19:00, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

I think they're both solid ... in the Caputo one, I would run Reflinks, which it looks like you did in the second one (check an error that says "1 second ago" as an author), but yeah, I think they're both solid starts! Go Phightins! 20:15, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
Thanks much, I ran Reflinks for Michael Caputo too. Too bad it doesn't automatically fill them in on the article and you just had to hit submit. Also, I just realized that Penn State and Wisconsin don't even play each other in football for another two years. Jeez! Anywho, thanks for looking at them again. Cheers, —  dainomite   00:17, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

One of Adam Cuerden’s several quality restorations during round 1

That's it, the first round is done, sign-ups are closed and we're into round 2. Forty-seven competitors move into this round (a bit shy of the expected 64), and we are roughly broken into eight groups of six. The top two of each group will go through to round 3, and then the top scoring 16 "wildcards" across all groups.

Twenty-two Good Articles were submitted, including three by   Cyclonebiskit (submissions), and two each by   MPJ-DK (submissions),   Hurricanehink (submissions),   12george1 (submissions), and   Cas Liber (submissions). Twenty-one Featured Pictures were claimed, including 17 by   Adam Cuerden (submissions) (the Round 1 high scorer). Thirty-one contestants saw their DYKs appear on the main page, with a commanding lead (28) by   Cwmhiraeth (submissions). Twenty-nine participants conducted GA reviews with   J Milburn (submissions) completing nine.

If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. This Weeks Editor of the Week

...is Happysquirrel (talk · contribs · count · logs), a relatively new editor that works hard at improving the encyclopedia experience for all. She deserves a few messages of appreciation. Go P, I have no idea if anybody pays attention to what happens at the WER pages anymore. For years I have been challenging members of the project to Drop by his/her talk page and give him/her a pat on the back and let him/her know he/she is supported. And for years the response has been miserable. O, every now and then an editor will get nominated that has a fan club and some 5 or 6 editors will drop in to say congrats. But most of the time I have to send out specific requests to specific editors or no one but me shows up. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy giving out the awards and I enjoy the cheerful responses that I get from most awardees. But can you imagine the pleasure that we as a project would give another editor if every week 3 dozen or more editors said, "Well done. Thank you". Happysquirrel said this after only two editors thanked her:

Thank you so much everyone! This means so much to me. It's always good to know my efforts are appreciated. As someone who works mostly with new articles and new editors, I find myself often on the margins of the community, helping people inwards, but never going in completely myself. You can't imagine how great it is to have people coming out to congratulate me.

Veteran editors waste so much time arguing. I know getting any membership to do something positive can be like herding cats. Sending good wishes takes ONE minute. Editor retention happens one editor at a time. I don't think Editor Happysquirrel will be leaving soon. This message, abbreviated, is at the EotW talk page and the Project talk page. I place it here in hopes that your stalkers will respond. Buster Seven Talk 06:55, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

Buster, I thoroughly appreciate everything you do with EotW. I apologize that I have fallen off with that. On Sundays when I think of it, I try to drop by the editor talk pages, but as you well know, I rarely remember. You are right that retention happens an editor at a time, and thanks to editors like you, dozens of editors have been retained. Wikipedia owes you much for your tireless, thankless efforts, Buster. Among my favorite sayings is "not being able to do everything isn't an excuse for not doing everything you can". No one embodies that more consummately than you. Keep up the excellent work. Go Phightins! 01:17, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, as always, GOP! I certainly didn't come here to admonish you. You are one of the bricks that fortify my endeavors here. I left the same message at DB's page and a few others from the first few months. I just know from experience that the award brings joy to the editors that receive it and that the more fellow collaborators that join in the "Song of Praise" the more the joy increases. Baseball?

I've just stumbled on your name and if you're really a phils fan the wait for Opening Day is almost over. VegasCasinoKid (talk) 20:27, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

There might be some chance of something decent happening this year, he said with as much optimism as a Philadelphia sports fan can muster. Go Phightins! 03:30, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
If anything goes wrong, just live by the motto I've used as a Mariners fan for the last few years: "There's always next year." Zappa24Mati 03:39, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
It was only a few years ago the Phils were perennial playoff contenders. So much I used to come at least once a year to cheer on the team. Oh where have you gone Charlie? VegasCasinoKid (talk) 13:46, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
What's that old saying? Insanity is repeating the same actions and expecting different results. I suggest you all become Cubs fans and join in the celebration of the first World Series game in 108 years!. Talk about, "Wait till next year." But, I may regret saying this, The wait is over. Get on board the Cubs bandwagon---there's plenty of room, Buster Seven Talk 13:38, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
I've been a Bears fan for a long time. I'd rather not hop on another Chicago bandwagon of disappointment. NFLisAwesome (ZappaOMati) 16:47, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Time to promote? or wait until they are officially in a game?

Tyler Goeddel and Daniel Stumpf have made the Phillies major league roster. The question is ... move to their own page from Philadelphia Phillies minor league players now, or wait until they are officially in a game for the first time? I can make the move, just want to know the protocol. And its good to see the Phillies winning again (at least so far in the 3rd inning). Bob305 (talk) 21:12, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

Hey Bob! Darn bullpen; way to ruin a perfectly good start. In any case, I think we are OK to move them out of the minor league article and onto their own pages. Both satisfy WP:GNG at this point. If you don't do so in the next day or two, I will. Thanks, and here's to another great season (at least of coverage :-) Go Phightins! 20:44, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
Just finished moving Stumpf. Another editor moved Goeddel earlier this evening after he appeared in the game. If only it rained harder between the 6th and 9th innings ... maybe they could have had their first win of the season. Bob305 (talk) 03:00, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

DRN help needed and volunteer roll call

You are receiving this message because you have listed yourself on the list of volunteers at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Volunteering#List of the DRN volunteers.

First, assistance is needed at DRN. We have recently closed a number of cases without any services being provided for lack of a volunteer willing to take the case. There are at least three cases awaiting a volunteer at this moment. Please consider taking one.

Second, this is a volunteer roll call. If you remain interested in helping at DRN and are willing to actively do so by taking at least one case (and seeing it through) or helping with administrative matters at least once per calendar month, please add your name to this roll call list. Individuals currently on the principal volunteer list who do not add their name on the roll call list will be removed from the principal volunteer list after June 30, 2016 unless the DRN Coordinator chooses to retain their name for the best interest of DRN or the encyclopedia. Individuals whose names are removed after June 30, 2016, should feel free to re-add their names to the principal volunteer list, but are respectfully requested not to do so unless they are willing to take part at DRN at least one time per month as noted above. No one is going to be monitoring to see if you live up to that commitment, but we respectfully ask that you either live up to it or remove your name from the principal volunteer list.

Request

There is an important discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Editor Retention about possibly finding a way to salvage Single-purpose editors and transforming them into positive WP collaborators in the general mainspace. Your personal insight and experience would be appreciated. WP:WER has become a relative ghost town (and I may be the only ghost left in town) and User:Robert's idea may be just the boost the Project needs to revitalize. It's an opportunity for the Project to actually do something beyond handing out awards. I think Dennis Brown would like it. Buster Seven Talk 13:52, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

Editor of the Week : nominations needed!

The Editor of the Week initiative has been recognizing editors since 2013 for their hard work and dedication. Editing Wikipedia can be disheartening and tedious at times; the weekly Editor of the Week award lets its recipients know that their positive behaviour and collaborative spirit is appreciated. The response from the honorees has been enthusiastic and thankful.

The list of nominees is running short, and so new nominations are needed for consideration. Have you come across someone in your editing circle who deserves a pat on the back for improving article prose regularly, making it easier to understand? Or perhaps someone has stepped in to mediate a contentious dispute, and did an excellent job. Do you know someone who hasn't received many accolades and is deserving of greater renown? Is there an editor who does lots of little tasks well, such as cleaning up citations?

Please help us thank editors who display sustained patterns of excellence, working tirelessly in the background out of the spotlight, by submitting your nomination for Editor of the Week today!

Signpost

Would The Signpost be interested in a short opinion piece on the subject of Wikipedia and extortion? I think it would surely be topical and timely. Like its author, it would probably not be popular among all Wikipedians, but I think it will be of interest to many. I’ll be writing about the topic elsewhere, but some aspects are specifically interesting to active admins, who are perhaps better approached in The Signpost than through a general-interest publication.

If you're interested, let me know about your editorial schedule. Don’t hesitate to email or phone. MarkBernstein (talk) 15:02, 12 May 2016 (UTC)

How did Saquon Barkley look? He's probably one of the top 3 running backs in the Big Ten this year. Best of luck to you guys this season, please beat OSU, UM and MSU, they need it, and we will try the same.   Cheers! —  dainomite   17:08, 5 September 2016 (UTC)

Hello Phightins!

I am Ranjith pursuing my masters degree in Lawrence Tech University Michigan. My major is Information Technology and my area of interest is Database modeling.I am doing Emerging Technologies course in current semester by Professor Chih Hao Ku. I was assigned a project in this semester on wiki articles. I have to choose an article which needs improvisation and work on that article to improve the topic. I am new to Wikipedia and i seek your help towards the project. Thanks in advance.Cranjithkumarreddy (talk) 00:22, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

Hello Cranjithkumarreddy. I know very little about database modeling ... do you have a particular article in mind? In general, my advice would be to choose a topic, approach it like you would approach a research paper in terms of finding sources perhaps through your university library resources, and then improve the article where you can. Unfortunately, I am not as active as I used to be, so I am unable to take a direct mentorship role, but if you have questions along the way, our team at the Teahouse can help. Best of luck! God bless, Go Phightins! 04:49, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Go Phightins!. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:48, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
