Hello! Generally it's meant to be two-four weeks after the acceptance of the request (I think). If nothing happens by Sunday (two weeks after acceptance) I'll poke some people to try get a response! I myself am avoiding editing Corrib Gas articles totally (even for vandalism and such), so I can't really be any help. You could try bringing it up at WP:COIN if needs be. Thanks! 134.226.32.57 (talk) 18:33, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
That was weird, I got signed out between clicking edit on your page and submitting! Thanks! Fin© 18:34, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I found the best thing to do myself was just to walk away for a bit, wasn't getting anywhere, everything just descended into an edit war. Hopefully the mediation'll improve things! Thanks! Fin© 21:20, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your note. I was not aware that there's mediation going on. I'll take a look, but can't promise to participate due to time constraints . NoCal100 (talk) 23:50, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Yep yep, I'd intended posting my own thoughts at some point this week, then when I saw you'd posted yesterday I thought I'd better get on it! I'll try to do so after the match at some point! Thanks! Fin© 16:46, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Well! Just added my thoughts there, just wondering, did you mean to "NPOV imagery" in the last section you added? (I assume you meant POV imagery, but don't want to change it!). Thanks! Fin© 10:43, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

MedCab/MedCom

Yep, sure, work away! I'm probably going to be busy for most of today (college work, and if my friend pulls through with a ticket - the match!) but feel to set up another MedCab case (I note Phil's given his approval and Steve's worked talked to some people about it). Sounds good, gimme a shout when you've the page set up. The "vandal" you reverted on Brian O' Driscoll wasn't really being a vandal either, he speaks the truth!! =p Oh, I gave LP a heads up about the COIN section, just to be polite. Thanks! Laters. Fin© 10:15, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

No hassle, sure if I get a bit of free time I'll see what I can do. Ah yeah, don't worry, hopefully mediation'll sort all this out. Enjoy the match, though I know you won't like the result!! ;) Thanks! Fin© 11:14, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
Ya ya, ye deserved that in fairness. Didn't manage to get a ticket, just watched it in the pub instead. Don't go losing the final now, eh?! Thanks! Fin© 19:23, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Well! I've finally set up a new MedCab case. Sorry for the delay and such! Thanks! Fin© 23:06, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shell to Sea Fleet

Please take not of the link I posted beneath your comment. Whenever something is merged, the edit history related to the merged information need to be retained so the people who wrote it are properly attributed. Deletion is incompatible with merging. (Administrators can perform history mergers, but that is not advisable when there's overlap because it would make it seem like there was an edit war over the content when there wasn't) - Mgm|(talk) 16:26, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

  • People who suggest merge and delete, usually want to retain the text, but have some objection to the title. Why don't you consider a simple merge and redirect to be the best idea? - Mgm|(talk) 17:35, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

HC 09

Was wondering how long it'd take you ;) I was having flashbacks to the Wales game in the last thirty seconds though, screaming "no penalty, no penalty!!". Good game though, Elsom's some man! Fin© 22:26, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Yeah I know the feeling - would've been hilarious if Leicester scored and it went to penalties though. The first half of this (Canada game) was shite, it's improving a bit now though, Ireland finally figuring there's space out wide. Fin© 22:34, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
I still wanted Leinster to win, just would've been funny if it went to penalties! The whole passage of play in the first half from Ireland - block the drop goal->Stringer knock on->Duffy (I think?) fucking up the clearance->Dowling not knowing what to do once he got the ball - was a bit crazy. Keatley made a good run there in the last few minutes, seemed like the only point where they actually wanted to win it though! Fin© 22:53, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Books and schools are not eligible for speedy deletion under A7. Please remember that when tagging. Otherwise, keep up the good work. – B.hoteptalk• 20:35, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

G10 - A7

Hi, I've just deleted a sourced attack on a non-notable person as A7 rather than the G10 you tagged it as. G10 is for unsourced attacks, thanks ϢereSpielChequers 11:15, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Escuela Delengua CSD

I've removed the CSD tag from Escuela Delengua. Schools are specifically excepted from WP:CSD#A7. Perhaps WP:PROD is more appropriate here.—C45207 | Talk 09:40, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

I've proded that now, I used A7 as I beleived it to be a company offering language products rather than a "proper" school. Cheers GainLine 09:47, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
Ah, I see. You do appear to be correct about its being a company offering language products. Though, I don't know quite where to draw the line between company and private school.—C45207 | Talk 09:50, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
no worries, we'll let the prod run its course GainLine 09:57, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Livio Alvaro Bisterzo

I've deleted you CSD tag from Livio Alvaro Bisterzo. A7 doesn't apply because the article does make numerous claims to significance/importance. A PROD tag or AfD would be more appropriate. Cheers, TheLeftorium 10:54, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Notability of J. Edward Addicks

I have removed the tag you placed on this article. Notability is asserted in the first line of the article, and is established by the multiple sources that had already been placed on the page, including citations from books, periodicals, and a court case documenting his failed bid for Congress. File source problem with File:TommyBowe.jpg

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:TommyBowe.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:19, 30 June 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 12:19, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Mediation

I will be closing the mediation for the time being. With one party not editting there is little gain in trying to continue. With regards the to possible afd, do be careful, you may end up being seen as using process to solve a dispute. Although there is nothing wrong with that in a sense, it can sour a dispute. If any issues crop up, please email me, and ill help out as much as I can. Seddσn talk|WikimediaUK 12:30, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Garda Siochana

I'm rather concerned at the -- in my view -- excessive weight placed on "controversies" and alleged misconduct in the Garda Siochana article. I may take a stab at trying to redress the balance -- obviously it may be that some or all of the claims are true; but to have such things dominate the article (as it now stands) seems perverse. Rossport Solidarity Camp

Hi I noticed you posted this page for deletion instead of merging into shell to sea. There is no Info there on this. This is presumaly archived. How can I can see the archive or have it undeletred so as to merge and rewrite it?Cathar11 (talk) 12:06, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

See:- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rossport Solidarity Camp, This is the pages WP:AFD, as you can see it was necessary for this to be voted on. The reasons for its nomination and subsequent deletion are pretty clear, it was basically a rewrite of some indymedia articles that were written by members of the camp. The content of the article was really inappropriate, more of a diary. You can request a deletion review but as I said theres not much that could be used from it. My own feeling is that you'd be better writing a section from scratch using appropriate sources to back it up but feel free to see if an admin will let you recover info. GainLine 12:55, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

I've started putting in a small section on it. I was just curious to knowe its content as the google cache has expiredand I noticed the deletion page mentioned something about archiving. I dont like reinventing the wheel. prefer to cut down and reference.Cathar11 (talk) 13:21, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

When an AFD is voted on, there are 3 options:- Keep, Delete & Merge so if the text is worth keeping, people vote on the former. Like I said it was a pretty poor paraphrase of indymedia articles. If there was stuff worth saving people would have voted a merge. GainLine 14:10, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Indenting

Well! Just as a note, it'd probably be a good idea to indent your comments on a talk page so they read in a hierarchical fashion. I fixed one of your comments on Talk:Glengad cos you replied to LP, but didn't indent, then Steve replied to LP but indented, and because you hadn't indented your comments previously, it looked like you'd actually replied to Steve - confusing! Anyway, just stick a : onto the front of comments to indent them (multiple :s indent further). Thanks! Fin© 22:34, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Speedy tagging

Hi. Two points about your speedy-tagging of Joe gillespie just now:

  • the definition of db-nonsense, WP:CSD#G1, is very tightly drawn, more tightly thn the word "nonsense" suggests: "Pages consisting entirely of incoherent text or gibberish with no meaningful content". It wouldn't cover this, where there was a meaning, though a silly one. WP:CSD#G3, vandalism or misinformation, covers it better. There's good advice about speedy tagging at WP:10CSD and WP:FIELD.
  • after tagging a page, it's worth checking the author's talk page and leaving an appropriate warning - usually the one provided on the speedy-deletion template. In this case, as the author seems to be a vandalism-only account and already had a level 3 warning, I added {{uw-create4}}, so if he does any more he can be reported to WP:AIV.

Keep up the good work! Regards, JohnCD (talk) 10:02, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

The layout didn't look great, no info box and large bibliography section. Could possibly do with more refs. If you disagree then feel free to remove tag. GainLine 10:57, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Definitely needs expanding but even with substantial history of published articles I cannot find any English references about him himself, and only a couple of Hebrew ones. I suppose that he is virtually ignored by the mainstream media and not controversial enough to make headlines. Not yet enough info to make infobox look normal either. --Shuki (talk) 11:37, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Satoru Rodas

The article quite probably fails the notability guidelines, however all that is required to avoid being speedy deleted is an assertion of importance or significance. The claim to being one of "100 latinos on the move" is a claim to significance and the list is almost certainly not a hoax[1]. A nomination for proposed deletion (or AFD if necessary) would be the correct forum for deleting the article, which I agree is almost certainly not notable and the above claim would certainly not be enough to avoid deletion there. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Penny apples 2.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Penny apples 2.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 04:24, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

Userfying autobiographies

Hi. I saw you userfied Samuel Terry Goold's autobio just now: that was a useful thing to do, but there are two follow-up actions to take:

  • Add {{db-r2}} to the cross-namespace redirect which is left behind at the original article, so it gets deleted,
  • Tell the user what has happened and why. There is a standard template {{Userfy warning}} for this, but I don't like it much and have worked out one which I cut and paste from a text file: you can see what it looks like at User talk:Samgoold, and you are welcome to use or adapt it if you like.

I sometimes think it's a waste of time userfying these autobios, because they almost never carry on contributing, but it is more friendly and less WP:BITEy than just speedying them, so it's worth the trouble. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 15:47, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the tips, I had been in the habit of speedying these types of page but I saw others redirecting them and I thought it might be a better thing to do. I wasn't aware of the follow up process but I know now for the future. Cheers GainLine 16:00, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Lapsed Pacifist 2

This arbitration case has been closed and the final decision is available at the link above.

All articles related to Corrib gas controversy and the Shell to Sea campaign are placed under probation. All fall under 1RR, and a stricter rather than laxer interpretation of addition of and removal unsourced content.

Lapsed Pacifist (talk · contribs) is strongly admonished for edit warring and is topic banned, indefinitely, from articles related to the Corrib gas project, broadly defined. He is also subject to an editing restriction for one year, namely is limited to one revert per page per week (except for undisputable vandalism and BLP violations), and is required to discuss any content reversions on the page's talk page.

While GainLine (talk · contribs) is admonished for vandalising BLPs and sockpuppetry, he is also commended for desisting from early problematic behaviours and encouraged to pursue appropriate dispute resolution methods, and seek administrator intervention when required.

Non-compilance to any of the above editing restrictions may result in a block, up to a week in the event of repeated violations. After 5 blocks, the maximum block shall increase to one year.

- For the Arbitration Committee, Mailer Diablo 09:00, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

  • No, those are the main subject articles. If any conflict arises from other articles that is related to this case's core topics (i.e. Corrib gas controversy and Shell to Sea), the restriction would apply. - Mailer Diablo 11:05, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

Could use your inputs on the deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alexander Schott and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/James Ackerman (USMC). I was very surprised to see these up for deletion, especially with sources from both NPRC and the Marine Corps historical society. Your previous inputs on Jack W. Pat Kenny

I gave up editing that article more than a year ago as I've found plenty to be getting on with besides articles which are likely to be controversial or cause edit wars. However, any mention of anything negative regarding this person has a habit of disappearing, although sections which appears to treat him more kindly has remained. I am partially responsible for adding the content which is now under "Off-screen personality" and while I can see its use (as positive sources about this person seem to be rarer than negative ones) it should also be possible to include some of the more infamous incidents in his career as well. I don't think the content you added overall has any POV issues. No less than how Kenny describes his style under "Styles of Byrne and Kenny" anyway. I can see how there might be disagreements over use of bullet points, the title of the section maybe, the fact that it appears to unbalance the entire article but there does not appear to be anything wrong with what you added. It is both true and verifiable (and verifiability is all that is necessary) and you have verified it. Perhaps when the rest of the career is fleshed out it will be possible to add this information as I cannot see how it could be a featured article (if it were to ever get that far) without at least vaguely referring to some of these incidents. --candlewicke 20:37, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Irish Rugby flag

You are receiving this message as you previous participated in a Irish rugby flag related discussion (WP:RUIRLFLAG). There are two ongoing discussions which may interest you here and here GnevinAWB (talk) 00:43, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

comment left, I've kept away from discussion in the past, it rears itself every few months and just leads to frustration for all involved GainLine 10:24, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Hi Gainline, Just to pop along and note that in the Irish Rugby Flag vote Vote, you haven;t actually cast a vote, despite having made some very decent comments in the subsequent discussion. I'd hate to see your valued comments lost because of a technicality. Khavakoz (talk) 15:59, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads up. I thought I had voted, for the use of provincial flags. Maybe you could point out where I missed and ill throw in my vote. I gave up on this discussion a long time ago, its very frustrating and everytime its come up has ended up being unresolved. GainLine 20:53, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
at the point Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Rugby_union#Yes you haven't actually entered a vote in the Yes column, just put your contribution in the IF yes section below. I know this is frustrating, and, to be honest, I have suspicious on the bona fides of some of the arguments made. Khavakoz (talk) 15:37, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Done now, yes I know, but sure what can you do? I've been going to matches in Lansdowne since I was a kid and remember the 4 provinces flag being flown well before the professional era and the bandwagon support hit us (still beats the shit out losing all the time though!) GainLine 17:47, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Oh, quite. I remember being in Lansdowne for the first game of the 'modern' era - the victory over Scotland in the 2000 championship, coming a week after we were murdelized by the English team. I remember touts outside being shunned, daring to offer tickets at 1/2 face. Still think winning is better though. The 4 Provinces Flag was flying that day, too, on the flagpoles behind the South Stand. Khavakoz (talk) 14:36, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
(edit) Oh never mind - its all been hauled off to the start again by Gnevin and Peejay.

(edit2) and now Gnevin has made a completely neutral call for Editor intervention.Khavakoz (talk) 16:22, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

I see you're starting to share the frustration I used to experience discussing this, which is why I stopped taking an active part in the discussion. Theres a certain amount of wikilawyering going on and a lot of progress could be made with a dose of common sense. GainLine 18:24, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

Call for consensus/conclusion to current Ireland rugby union team icon

Hello, I am contacting you because you have been an active participant in the recent discussion on icon to be used for Ireland rugby union. I have tried to summarise the many strands and come to a conclusion based on what I perceive the consensus to be in this section - Summary of Ireland Flag discussion and suggested consensus conclusion. To move the issue to a conclusion I am asking all participants who have signed the discussion to read my summary and comment on the validity of the approach I have advocated, before the issue goes cold. I am keen that the enormous efforts of all contributors results in a tangible conclusion on this occasion.Kwib (talk) 16:34, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the note and all your hard work on summing things up. FWIW I think the 4 provinces flag is the one to use and see no reason why it shouldn't be with maybe Shamrock second pref. Can be a pretty frustrating debate tho! GainLine 20:43, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Other stuff

Some of this stuff probably needs a little tidying up, as I often cut and paste stuff at the bottom (especially in the apartheid one).

This one's just about finished, and I have had to do some intense research to get the references etc: User:MacRusgail/Rugby union in the Soviet Union. Some of this material is going to be put into rugby union in Russia etc. Other east European articles - User:MacRusgail/Rugby union in Yugoslavia (i.e. pre-split Yugoslavia, just about ready, bar a couple of lines at the bottom), User:MacRusgail/Rugby union in Czechoslovakia (limited info), User:MacRusgail/Rugby union in the German Democratic Republic (extremely limited info and looking to expand. A couple of the important Berlin rugby clubs found themselves on the other side of the Iron Curtain I believe).

Very untidy just now, but I believe wikipedia needs an article on this subject: User:MacRusgail/Rugby union and apartheid

User:MacRusgail/Rugby union at the Pacific Games - a lot of info lacking, but presumably one of the bigger events, given the popularity of the game in the region.

User:MacRusgail/Rugby union in Iceland, limited info. There is some in Albania as well, but same problem. I've thought of creating these articles for the sake of completeness on European rugby. A couple of places, e.g. the Faroe and Aland Islands appear to have no rugby, but just about every other European country does.

Oh... and I've been wanting to write a decent article on scrum machines as well. We really need to find some pictures - or even take them - for this one. --MacRusgail (talk) 09:22, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Ah excellent, I think I saw an article here recently on rugby in Berlin, I'll try dig it out. Also read a blog yesterday of an irish guy playing in Moscow. I think the apartheid one should be a priority, should be a lot of info out there. I'm sure I could dig out a pic of a scrum machine or take one at some point. GainLine 09:29, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

A very rough page here - User:MacRusgail/Sandbox5 on rugby players who have played other sports (rugby-cricket, and rugby-other football codes are fairly well covered, but other areas aren't). It's all over the place, but hipefully you get the picture;. very much a work in progress.

Certain notable game administrators could do with better articles too. Japan's Shiggy Konno has a short article, but France's Albert Ferasse has nothing yet.

This one's finished, but interesting - Okey Geffin, a prop who used to take goal kicks! --MacRusgail (talk) 09:59, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Didn't Ollie LeRoux take one for the BaaBaas?! don't think he'll be worrying the likes of Dan Carter anytime soon!
I once played in a game that was so one sided, most of our team took turns at goal (not me though), to give the other side a chance. It was bizarre! --MacRusgail (talk) 15:53, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

TGG

I would like to try and merge some of my material into your article on the sandbox. I hope this is alright. Thanks. --MacRusgail (talk) 11:35, 7 May 2010 (UTC) p.s. An alternative might be to put it into the article incubator for a wee while.

A few suggestions for the article. 1) All the non-rugby stuff is put into a biography section, 2) I know his wife was Louise, but it would be good to get a surname for her, 3) I mention Jock Wemyss in passing, and can get references for him... there were several other one eyed international rugby players, including a Frenchman who Wemyss played against in one game. 4) Sources seem to differ on whether it was a hand or an arm which was amputated, but I suspect he probably retained his upper arm. 5) We probably need to look at a history of Irish rugby as well.
Thanks for letting me do this and for getting in touch. --MacRusgail (talk) 15:45, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for giving me credit for the DYK too. I had put TGG on the backburner, and probably needed a kick to get it finished as well!--MacRusgail (talk) 19:15, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

"perhaps we could collaborate on other rugby union articles in the future?" - Aye sure, I'd be delighted to. Recently I've not been on wikipedia as often as I used to be, but I think there's certainly a lot of scope for improvement in rugby articles, particularly early players.

At some point, I'm going to expand Jock Wemyss. He has a couple of interesting stories... firstly, the poor sod lost one of his eyes in WWI, and found himself playing against a French player in the same predicament (I don't think the French player has an article, I forget his name though)... Secondly, there's the much more bizarre incident in which Wemyss after coming back from the war was refused a Scotland jersey by the SFU, because he hadn't retained his pre-war one. The Scottish Football Union (as it was then) was notoriously frugal and reactionary to the point of refusing to put numbers on jerseys etc... You got given one Scotland kit to play in, during your entire international career. Wemyss is an interesting one, for similar reasons to TGG.--MacRusgail (talk) 23:45, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Forgot to say, put a link to TGG in the DYK sections of Portal:Ireland and Portal:Northern Ireland

Cheers, its cleared at main DYK so should go up there in the next few days. I'm gonna release scrum machine into the wild today, I don't see us being able to get enough for DYK, surprising lack of info thats not adverts online. I'm planning on maybe buying and reading Playing the enemy before cracking on to the apartheid article. I thik it has huge potential GainLine 10:52, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
User talk:Thryduulf - Thryduulf helped start the Wiktionary entry on scrum machine. There's one more thing to do, I'm going to look in some training manuals to try and get some print references. I agree, most of the references are commercial. A shame! -MacRusgail (talk) 11:11, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
