AfD nomination of Evelina M. Goulart (schooner)

I have nominated Evelina M. Goulart (schooner), an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Evelina M. Goulart (schooner). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. ukexpat (talk) 00:20, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

2007 Massachusetts estimated population

Well, the 2007 population figure comes from the Census, of course (http://www.census.gov/popest/states/tables/NST-EST2007-01.xls) but it's already in the Historical Populations info box on the same page. Someone had updated the box but not the actual population text. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.249.56.106 (talk) 05:46, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Wollaston, Massachusetts

Hey, thanks for the save there. I'll be honest, I don't even know why I chose that wording. I looked at it again and said to myself, "Someone else had to have added that awkward wording, right?" But no, it was me. Hey, odd question, but would you happen to know all the separate zip codes and their boundaries, or at least where I might find that information? I could probably find it myself, but just felt like asking. Aepoutre (talk) 01:25, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Reverts

I removed the entry because it was unsourced. Each entry in List of transgender people has a reference. Unsourced entries from lists like that are removed per Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. See Wikipedia:Citing sources for how to cite sources. Garion96 (talk) 07:36, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Never mind. I see the list has also a fictional characters section and this was a fictional character. It still should have a source but does not have to be removed immediately for that. Garion96 (talk) 11:45, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Long Island (Massachusetts) article

Hi. You put up a banner ("This article needs additional citations for verification.") on the Long Island (Massachusetts) article for lack of citations. It has 26 footnotes and almost all the material is corroborated in the references at the bottom. It would be too arduous to footnote every line. I think we should remove the warning banner? Thanks. --- (Bob) Wikiklrsc (talk) 00:12, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. I would, in general, agree with what you are saying. If I can make the time and have the source books in-hand readily, I will be glad to footnote important historical sections. Best Wishes. --- (Bob) Wikiklrsc (talk) 20:44, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Adventuress

Hey, no problem! I'm not really doing much around here these days, but i'd tried to get a pic of her for months without success. But then I was bought a ticket to the Tall Ships Festival here in Tacoma, and voila! Thanks for the props! Murderbike (talk) 21:26, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

...for the nice note. Thank you, Mr. Beans! p.s. I really love the Pynchon ubersox on your page--had never seen that one before... I've often thought of getting the muted horn as a tattoo! --JayHenry (talk) 23:26, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

List of Schooners

Hi, the images were displaying correctly as you described them, but to me it seems a waste to have acres a lot of blank space, which is why I put the images into gallery format. Feel free to revert if the consensus is to have them how they were. I'll not change them back to a gallery if that edit does get undone. Mjroots (talk) 05:08, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

List looks even better with the photos below the table. Maybe a table of the historical schooners and a gallery of images below that would give a consistent display. Mjroots (talk) 05:13, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
What blank space are you referring to, though? Unless I drastically narrow my browser window, the only blank space is in the "historical schooners" section, which is probably going to get split off onto its own page out of necessity (the article's already encroaching on 32KB, and I haven't even started work on the historical schooners yet). --Fullobeans (talk) 06:10, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
When the images were in a single column on the right, there was a large area of blank space to the left of the images. That's what I meant. Personally, I wouldn't worry about the size of the article. I've created plenty of lists that are bigger than that, such as List of windmills in Kent which is 52kb long. Mjroots (talk) 11:17, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, odd. I only get about half a centimeter of white space on my screen. I may switch it back to the previous format, since somebody suggested that on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ships as well, but I'll try and figure out if there's a way to control how much blank space is displayed between the images and the table. Because you're right, that's annoying. If it proves to be a persistent problem, then gallery it shall be. Thanks for the tip on article size, I wasn't sure how cut-and-dry a rule the 32KB was. --Fullobeans (talk) 01:30, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
Just occasionally, you can get a list with a photo for every entry!   Mjroots (talk) 20:54, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Hey Fullobeans

Just read your user page. Would you be willing to copy edit an article on habbo hotel (an online game)? Habbo —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pwrcitizen (talkcontribs) 03:55, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Template thanks

Hello, thank you for pointing out the template message page. I think it is much easier to understand than the other page I was reading! LovesMacs (talk) 17:55, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Truce terms

Hi. Regarding your template on this - do you have any knowledge of any literature on this issue that might help? There's extremely limited research - even in the UK. I believe there is a book coming out soon up-dating the situation in England. The trouble is - everybody can tell you what the word was when they were at school - but hardly anybody has ever written about it. Fainites barleyscribs 22:05, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, everything I found on Google Books just rehashes the same Opie study. I've got a friend who studied early childhood development; I'll try and pick her brain at some point, since she may still have books or articles which would be helpful. --Fullobeans (talk) 03:54, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks that would be really helpful. I was inspired by your template to do some serious googling etc and have come up with two more recent studies published by folklore journals which they are going to send me, some stuff from New Zealand and Australia which may be studies, and a passage of the use of these words in America in the 19th century to about the 1950's. I know somebody was collecting information via a questionnaire a while ago for a new book on playground lore etc etc but I can't see a recent publication on that other than an Australian book which is a little different in focus. I have no idea whether non-British based cultures have the same idea at all! Fainites barleyscribs 14:39, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
Wow; and all I did yesterday was eat food and talk about beer. Well done! My own American childhood, as I recall, mostly involved the word "time" in conjunction with the "time out" gesture, which is already mentioned (though unsourced) in the article. When playing in a more enclosed space, one was instead required to touch a designated object, like a porch or lamp post, and say "ghouls" (I have no idea why) prior to negotiating. It'll be interesting to see whether sources turn up for either of those. Anyways, when I get past the top few items on my to do list, I'll see if I can flesh out the coverage of the Opie study, since theoretically we could have a whole section on Great Britain with subsections for the Opie study and other/followup studies.--Fullobeans (talk) 00:50, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
Is that "talk about beer" as in mmm - beer ? I've looked through Opie but can't find anything like ghouls. A genuine regional variant then! I do have a source for the 'time out' bit. I will get round to it. The trouble with this subject is not being able to use OR. I know what was used and exactly how when I was young and I know what my children use now - which is a slight development from Opie - but its all OR. Quincy, Massachusetts

Hey, why begrudgingly edit Quincy-related articles? Just FYI I have a few different text articles up on my Mac right now with all new Wikipedia text and historical information for Wollaston (incl. Wollaston Heights and Wollaston Park), Merrymount, Mount Wollaston (basically Quincy in some form or another before it was named Quincy, I've discovered), Quincy MA, Edmund Quincy(s).... yeah, and it keeps getting longer. I'm doing historical research and using things like GoogleBooks, so it should be pretty neat. The only downside is that, as I learn more and more, it seems to be taking a while. I would just edit it in, but it's fairly confusing without looking at all these sources. So if you ever need any help, especially if it makes you a bit less begrudging, let me know :). --Aepoutre (talk) 11:00, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Ha. Well. I have a love/hate relationship with the city as a whole. I grew up here and, for some reason, can never seem to leave for more then a few years at a time. Call it Resentful Townie Syndrome. But since I also resent inadequate Wikipedia coverage of my town, well, there you have it. :) I'm extremely excited to see what new information you come up with, but take your time! I'm certainly not going to beat you to it. I haven't been wearing my serious researcher hat much recently, but my copyeditor and wikifier hats have been getting a lot of use. So if you ever want me to run through a sandbox edition of your future additions, I'd happily makes notes on what's confusing or ambiguous or in need of a footnote. Best of luck! --Fullobeans (talk) 11:35, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

  The Original Barnstar
For the intellectual curiosity that goes with discovering a possible page subject entirely by chance, then going on to write a well-referenced article about it. Euryalus (talk) 19:08, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

The first barnstar I've ever given anyone. I had the article on the To-do list as well, and had more reason to create it than you seeing as the comment from its original author was directed at me. But you went on and did it while I just idly thought about it. Congratualtions :) Euryalus (talk) 19:08, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Wow, thank you! It's the first I've received. It's to your credit, incidentally, that you say you had more reason to create the article than me; there are plenty of people who, when berated for participating in the justified deletion of an article, would simply quote policy and wash their hands of the matter, regardless of whether new sources turned up. So cheers on your good attitude, and thank you very much! --Fullobeans (talk) 21:49, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

You're welcome
