Super Bowl

First off, Lore often times does result from non-football action. For example, Joe Namath's guarantee made Super Bowl III much more notable, and the Bounty Bowls all became notable more for off-field action then on.

2012 Cleveland Indians season

Hello there, I see you recently deleted much of what had been posted in the July portion of the article. You also seemed to dislike what you referred to as "useless stats," but seemed to replace one pitching stat for June with a Brantley stat for the same month. Perhaps you can be more specific about what you have issue with or we can reach some sort of consensus? It's great to be able to read a season summary and get a feel for the highs and lows of the season; using referenced stats can help provide a vivid picture to the read, IMO. The Brantley stat was far from useless. It is the longest hitting streak of any player in MLB this season. Perhaps for July I did remove a little more than I should have. I agree that the summaries should include the highs and lows, such as winning and losing streaks. Having the #3 and #5 starters have a somewhat bad month really isn't that significant in my opinion. What I've attempted to provide in the season summary are things that can't easily be discerned from the season record below -- one can easily get an idea about the club's monthly record or home/road record by looking at the results further down. The point of talking about the pitchers was to show the successes they experienced (particularly Lowe) did not continue into the summer. What I was attempting to do with July was talk about some of the struggles throughout the lineup. A lot of folks who follow the team have been disappointed in Santana's lack of productivity for the last two months. Of course, maybe he'll turn around in August; why not build the momentum by mentioning his struggles in the July portion? Zepppep (talk) 00:29, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Ah, missed you by a few minutes. We would have crossed paths in the cloakroom. Can you come back and check out the edit war on the page. A user is determined to say "parody" instead of "secular", and claims Festivus isn't a holiday. Although dozens if not hundreds of major media outlets have called it a holiday, and it grows in popularity every year, the user won't talk about it and deletes all attempts on his talk page. The parody page here, and its descriptions, do not fit the holiday at all. This dispute needs more people involved, especially since the page is one of the top 100 (81) most viewed pages in the wiki. I have to ask why you think that the TV and radio stations the team airs their games on aren't notable.

They're only the outlets by which the team shows/presents their product to the public.

Without them, you may as well not have a team.

Festivus.

I think the recent edits are perfict. The current version of "Festivus" states:

Festivus, a well-celebrated parody, has become the secular holiday...

I'm sorry that some don't like this wording, but it's impossible for them to make reasonable arguments against it since it is factually correct. It simply can not be argued that "Festivus" did not start out (at least "In Popular Culture") as a parody, because that would not be true. As we well know, in virtually everyone's conciousness, "Festivus" *did* start out as a parody on a well-known comedy sitcom. Folks, please accept the reality that this current wording is a very good comprimise, and accuratly reflects the actual real truth in a factual way. For folks to argue that "Festivus" *did not* start out as a parody simply undermines their credibility on this point.

I think that this compramise is good middle ground that should satisfy both ends of the opinion spectrum. The current wording establishes the popularity of this "holiday" as becomming popular as a parody on a well known television comedy program, while also telling us that there are some who have folded this parody into their secular rituals as well. Folks, it will not get any better than this, Randy Kryn has crafted great language that should satsify all but the most deluded of ideologues. =//= Johnny Squeaky 23:02, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for this post. Upon looking at the page again and your comments, I have more closely noticed the differences between the "parody" that was present in December 2012 and "parody that has become a secular holiday" that is on the page now. I believe this is a good compromise that points out both the parody aspects and the reality of the holiday. I think I acted too soon in making the change to that page.
