I regret losing my temper. But you should notice that the anon who removed Shia Islam from the infobox first replaced it with Sunni Islam and did so in many articles. Also, the denomination should be included in the infobox, as it is with almost every Sunni Muslim. I kindly ask you to undo your own edit to Ayub Khan.77.42.187.213 (talk) 21:11, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

New Project

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 06:57, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Lady Aleena's future

WBOSITG...Several people have expressed an interest in my next probable nomination for adminship. Messaging people when it happens would look a lot like canvassing, so I would prefer not doing that. If you are interested in it, you could add this to your watchlist. If it is created, you will know, maybe even before I do depending on how often you check your watchlist. If you wish to gush prior to it being officially up, have fun, but only when it happens please. I am in no particular rush. Have a very nice day! :) - LA @ 10:02, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Your input would be welcomed

Hiya, sorry - this is a bit spammy. You recently commented at my talk page regarding my proposal for a mentoring process that takes us away from "admin coaching" and moves towards a process to provide a support system to help editors who wish it become effective, high quality administrators, and not an administrator for the sake of it. I've created a header at User:Pedro/Mentoring and if you have any time to provide some feedback, or just tinker with it, I'd be grateful. Pedro :  Chat  08:37, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

I'd rather you didn't blank the sections on WP:AWC. It would be best that we take action after the MfD has been given more time and is opened to more feedback. Would you mind reverting your edits? I'm willing to suspend them for the time being (similar to what I did with The Deletionist challenge). Thanks a ton. --SharkfaceT/C 21:32, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. While your methods were effective in sorting out the mess, I'd rather they be kept up until a minor consensus was reached. Still, I appreciate your bold efforts. They're fitting for a soon-to-be administrator. --SharkfaceT/C 21:48, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
Haha, I didn't find any rudeness in your reply simply because of the :). That little guy sure is handy. Your edits were quite alright, it's just that I'd rather take things a bit slower. Remember, due to the completely fluid nature of Wikipedia, nothing is every really lost, and all changes can be undone. Editing and living on Wikipedia... I think of it as something akin to surfing a huge wave. You feel all powerful because you and your board are inside a huge tube of water.... when in reality you're the master of none but your own balance, trying to keep from being crushed by the huge fortress of water all around you. In order to stay balanced, one must be at peace on the inside, remaining calm, relaxed, and focused. Of course, that's just what I think. I could be wrong. ^_~ --SharkfaceT/C 21:56, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Rfb participation thanks

Hello, "S/he who inters hidden missives beneath the earth that gives forth both flowers and food".

I wanted to personally thank you for taking part in the project-wide discussions regarding my candidacy for bureaucratship. After bureaucratic discussion, the bureaucrats decided that there was sufficient significant and varied opposition to my candidacy, and thus no consensus to promote. Although personally disappointed, I both understand and respect their decision, especially in light of historical conservatism the project has had when selecting its bureaucrats. If you have any further suggestions or comments as to how you think I could help the project, please let me know. Once again, thank you for your support, and an early congratulations on what appears to be a bit flipping in your near future :) -- Avi (talk) 17:11, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

You're an admin!

Hi, Fox/May 2008, Congratulations on Becoming a Sysop!

Hey there. I'm pleased to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator! You've volunteered to do housekeeping duties that normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except patent nonsense like "aojt9085yu8;3ou"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, block anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on articles for deletion for more than 5 days (provided there's a consensus), protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Wikipedia up to date.

Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. If you have any questions drop me a message at My talk page. Have fun! =Nichalp «Talk»=
PS Please add you name to WP:LA!

I never said I was the primary author. The template states, "The author of the only substantial content has requested deletion in good faith, either explicitly or by blanking the page." Hey I am curious as to why you blocked this IP which received no warnings today, and had only made one edit today too. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 19:15, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Yes the user received a final warning but it was issued almost 24 hours before your block was issued, and with the account being an IP the user using may very well have changed. Next time just issue a "onl-waring" type of deal before blocking in cases like that, but as it is only 24 hours I see no real harm done. Tiptoety talk 21:43, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

Aset Ka

Hi Joe. I've re-deleted the Aset Ka article as the AfD consensus for deletion was not a mere technicality, but found the claims about the order to be unreliable and unverifiable. The only new reference used in the article is a recent book published by the same proponent of the movement who had previously set up a website used to source the prior drafts - the article used essentially the same sources as when it was originally deleted. Not only that, but if you had read through the article with a skeptical eye, you'd notice that it makes outrageous claims supported only by dubious research of an "Asetian Bible" that, in all likelihood, did not exist a decade ago, much less the thousands of years claimed by its author. The "order" is, by any measure, pseudo-historical quasi-occult nonsense. I have explained the reasons behind deletion to the article's author and suggested DRV. Cheers, ˉˉanetode╦╩ 15:30, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Rollback of Template:Coord/dec2dms/dms

Hi WB. I had to roll back your edit to Template:Coord/dec2dms/dms because it broke some (if not all) articles with geographical infoboxes. I haven't looked into the cause of the error. All I know is that articles like St Mary Cray were broken, with a line of garbage at the top related to the coor template, and rolling back your edit fixed them. Better luck next time! Fox/May 2008, just a note of appreciation for your recent support of my request for adminship, which ended successfully with 112 supports, 2 opposes, and 1 neutral. If there's something I've realized during my RFA process this last week, it's that adminship is primarily about trust. I will strive to the best of my ability to honour that trust in my future interactions with the community. Many thanks! Gatoclass (talk) 06:12, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

WP:HAU has a new format

Due to popular demand, HAU has a new look. Since the changes are so dramatic, I may have made some mistakes when translating the data. Please take a look at WP:HAU/EU and make sure your checkmarks are in the right place and feel free to add or remove some. There is a new feature, SoxBot V, a recently approved bot, automatically updates your online/offline status based on the length of time since your last edit. To allow SoxBot V to do this, you'll need to copy [[Category:Wikipedians who use StatusBot]] to your userpage. Obviously you are not required to add this to your userpage, however, without this, your status will always be "offline" at HAU. Thanks. Useight (talk) 17:23, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

YOUR comments are unconstructive

I don't appreciate you referring to my revisions in the anal-oral sex article as unconstructive. Another editor brought up the subject of ammending the caption, I agreed with him and made the change. I was trying to make a better caption and I'd like to know under what theory my change was unconstructive? How is changing the caption from "A person preparing to perform analingus" to "A depiction of a person performing analingus" unconstructive? I am one of the many people VOLUNTEERING my time to help make Wikipedia better, and I, among others do not appreciate receiving nasty comments on our talk pages. You are supposed to assume good faith, and that's exactly what I was doing. Making rude accusations about someone's intent when there is no basis for it only discourages good editors from participating. 98.220.43.195 (talk) 19:35, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

World Traveller Award

Thank you for offering to help.

On July 15th, I'll be starting a (hopefully) big collaboration/competition at the AWC.

I'm scrambling around trying to get everything prepared in time.

One area I'm not all that adept in is graphic arts, and the competition needs 3 very nicely designed awards for participants.

The first one is nearly complete, but I'm having trouble with it.

Here's what has been done so far...

The awards will all be non-barnstar awards, and geography-related. I liked the globe in stand of the interlingual barnstar award, but the barnstar made the globe unusuable:

File:Interlingual Barnstar.png

So I stripped out the globe and barnstar, to get this:

File:Globe stand.png

I needed a transparent background, and all that took was to add a transparent layer, then select and erase the original background so the transparent background is all that was left:

File:Globe stand with transparent background.png

I then found a picture of Earth in this screen capture from NASA's Worldwind program:

I carefully drew a thick red ring around the Earth, blacked out (painted black over) everything outside the red ring, then made the black transparent, followed by making the red transparent, leaving just the globe.

The GIMP supports layering, scaling, and positioning, which makes it easy to add components, so I added the blue marble to the globe stand to get this...

File:Blue Marble in stand.png

Then I took this:

And added an alpha layer (1st transparent layer) to it and then removed the white surrounding the globe (leaving just the transparent background), removed the black, changed the white to black, and touched it up by erasing bits here and there, and adding a couple lines. Then I pasted the whole thing into the above image as a new layer, positioned it over the Blue Marble and underneath the rim of the globe stand and reduced the layer's opacity by a little over half. I also isolated the shadow and moved it to its own layer (so it can be easily altered), and I enlarged the canvas to accomodate the addition of another element (see below).

File:Blue Marble Puzzle Globe in stand.png

Now it needs a passport, laying on the same surface that the stand is resting on, while retaining the shadow. The words on the passport need to be readable.

Here's a passport I designed with a little help:

It needs to be added as a layer to the GIMP xcf file, underneath the shadow. Then the scaling, perspecitive, and rotation tools need to be applied to shrink and position it so that it is laying flat underneath the globe stand, at an attractive angle. (Or maybe there's an easier way).

I'm not sure if recreating the passport from scratch would be necessary or not (it's already at an angle which makes adjusting perspective difficult, and also the words might not be visible enough, and its right edge is a bit jagged).

Then the shadow will need to be adjusted to look right on top of the passport, and on whatever background is selected for the award. It'll be a multi-rank award, so I'm not sure yet what background or backgrounds will be used.

It sounds like this award would be easy for you to finish up.

I need to give you a copy of the xcf file that has all the layers in it. What is the best way for me to transfer that to you?

University of Chicago

Hi there, I added back the deleted sentences:

In 2008, Forbes magazine ranked the University of Chicago's undergraduate program the 4th best in the country under Harvard, Yale, and Princeton based on post-graduation achievements and student evaluations.[1] In 2008, Forbes also named the University of Chicago a "billionaire university," ranking the university as the 7th most successful university in the country for producing billionaire alumni.[2]

My argument is that these two achievements are constructive in light of the University of Chicago's relative obscurity within the general public, as compared with institutions of similar stature within academia and/or academic contributions. These two rankings, both recently published by a highly reputable publication, offer information about the University of Chicago that would surprise many people. Thanks for reading. 128.135.208.207 (talk) 09:06, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar

The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
In recognition of your kind and supportive words on Izzy007's second RfA attempt, I award you this barnstar. The candidate will have been lifted a great deal by the support you showed him there. With regards, Lradrama 10:14, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
I hope not. There's nothing worse than getting shot down in flames after having the courage to nominate's oneself in such a public affair. Opposes should be more of an explanation as to how a candidate can improve for future attempts, not a strong, heated blast of opinion. Happy editing, Lradrama 14:52, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Lol, our coaching strategies are kind of different.
