SVG files

How do you convert something to SVG? Like, what program(s) can you use? I would be interested in converting the files in commons:Category:Signatures, but I don't know what software to use. J.delanoygabsanalyze 03:08, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

re: Userpage

You're most welcome. On the other hand, I'm mildly pissed that you did apparently only look at the design and not read e.g. the last point here: "Yes, this pseudo-tabbed page design you see here is my original creation. I developed it from a variant of User:Phaedriel's page. You're most welcome to take what you need. If you feel like it, you can then make me even happier by including some sort of credit somewhere on your page. For a modified formatting which makes extensive use of transcluded subpages, see User:The Transhumanist." — Let me know if and when you need any formatting help. Better yet, ask TTH, he's a real wikicoding genius. dorftrottel (talk) 21:20, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

WP:HAU

Hello yet again. I regretfully inform you that the bot we were using to update the user status at Wikipedia:Highly Active Users, SoxBot V, was blocked for its constant updating. With this bot out of operation, a patch is in the works. Until that patch is reviewed and accepted by the developers, some options have been presented to use as workarounds: 1) Qui monobook (not available in Internet Explorer); 2) User:Hersfold/StatusTemplate; 3) Manually updating User:StatusBot/Status/USERNAME; or 4) Not worry about it and wait for the patch to go through, which hopefully won't take long. If you have another method, you can use that, too. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Useight (talk) 22:27, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Back to the drawing board

It appears the globe stand was from a copyrighted image.

This means we're back to square one.

We need to either find another globe stand, or come up with a new idea altogether for the "Wikipedia World Traveler" award.

I look forward to any ideas you might have.

Agazio & Luigi 28

Hi WBOSITG, I've seen that Agazio has been confirmed as a PIO sock. What about Luigi 28, if I may ask? Agazio's remarks in his request for unblock seem pretty conclusive to me that Agazio and Luigi 28 are one and the same. What're your thoughts? Should I open an RFCU? Best, AlasdairGreen27 (talk) 17:12, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

OK. Many thanks, and I agree that they're indeed the same person. AlasdairGreen27 (talk) 17:17, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Oh they're the same person allright, the grammar mistakes are identical. When one listens to him long enough, one gets used to PIO's distinct "style" of expression. Though I understand my assessment won't be enough. --DIREKTOR (TALK) 17:22, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

I repeat here: my name is Luigi. I'm Italian. I speak a terrible English (sorry), also a terrible German, Spanish and French. If you want, I can send my complete name, my address and my telephone number. I don't know who is that PIO. I'm not PIO!!! Maybe you have to apologize...--Luigi 28 (talk) 19:06, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Ancora grazie e ciao.--Luigi 28 (talk) 09:09, 5 June 2008 (UTC) (UTC)

Im sorry if this has vandalised your page BUT it's urgent

Someone on my IP range has my password, and i urgently need to change it. they are vanalising wiki and i cant stop them! help!!!! Dalemurph (talk) 11:09, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

I happened to be passing thru, and saw this. To be on the safe side, I put a 24 hour block on the account.--Bedford Pray 11:34, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the burying of the congrats

I'm also burying my thanks in the templated thank-spam below. also, feel free to check out and comment at my in-depth RFA analysis. cheers, xenocidic (talk) 12:55, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Luigi 28 & DIREKTOR

Hi WB, if this guy isn't User:PIO I'll write a 2-page letter of apology. However, this is probably not gonna happen, since PIO not only uses socks, but positively stinks at it. So whenever I see a poorly conceived sock ploy on Dalmatian artocles by a Venetian irredentist radical that can barely speak English (no offense to Italiano) according to a well visible pattern of grammar mistakes, *deep breath*, I'm immediately telling myself: "heee's baaaack!" ;)
As for you PIO, I'll just quote Alasdair:
"your first ever edit was to restore a fact tag that PIO had added [1], and on his way out of the door, PIO/Agazio was telling us, without being asked(!), that he had no connection with you. See User_talk:Agazio. And that Istrian exodus got protected to prevent PIO editing it from his IP, and that you were along within 24 hours of the PP expiring to add census data to it [2], which, strangely enough, had often been PIO's favourite topic [3]."
You'll have to think of something more original than simply using (what I assume is) your "real-world" name to create an account, Louie. --DIREKTOR (TALK) 01:51, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

I quote: "if this guy isn't User:PIO I'll write a 2-page letter of apology".
I'm this one: [12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20]
Now, I want your 2-page letter of apology!!!--Luigi 28 (talk) 11:22, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

RIPETO: fate TUTTI I CONTROLLI CHE VOLETE.

Administrator: I need your help to stop DIREKTOR and Alasdair. They are fools (look my talk page, please; and I WANT A 2-PAGE LETTER OF APOLOGY FROM DIREKTOR)!!!--Luigi 28 (talk) 12:37, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

I don't know...

I don't know what to do exactly for you... On the Italian language Wikipedia User:Pio and a relevant number of sock (all related to negationism and the like) have been banned from editing and - leaving apart the suspect of being "the same person" - there is certainly a plot to impose a POV on same articles. Since I'm a technician in real life and I'm not used to political matters, I usually limit myself to revert (or placing a POV tag) and protecting the encyclopedia. --M/ (talk) 22:23, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments about things to improve, and for not getting caught up in the whole userbox-thing :). Ironholds 20:42, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, i'll do so :). I agree wholeheartedly with your username, btw; i was lucky enough to catch BP at their brixton shows last year. Ironholds 21:00, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
I wasn't actually there for bloc party, the support act (biffy clyro) are an obsession of mine (7 shows in 5 months, including the Xfm 10'th anniversary gig and seeing them demo some of tracks inside the studio) but after seeing bloc party live i'll have to agree with the <all comment. Ironholds 21:05, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
They actually played brixton a few weeks later (although only 1 day) as a sold-out headlining show, which made me giggle. Absolutely fantastic live, i'd recommend any chance to go see them. Ironholds 21:08, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of "Portal:Homeschooling"

The deletion of an article you created, Portal:Homeschooling, has been proposed for the following reason:

No significant content

You are welcome to improve the article to meet Wikipedia's quality standards and remove the deletion notice from the article. You may also remove the notice if you disagree with the deletion, though in such cases, further discussion may take place at Articles for deletion, and the article may still be deleted if there is a consensus to do so.

Wikipedia has certain standards for inclusion that all articles must meet. Certain types of article must establish the notability of their subject by asserting its importance or significance. Additionally, since Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, content inappropriate for an encyclopedia, or content that would be more suited to somewhere else (such as a directory or social networking website) is not acceptable. See What Wikipedia is not for the relevant policy. You may wish to read our introduction to editing and guide to writing your first article.

Thanks. - DiligentTerrier (and friends) 21:50, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Re: Portal:Homeschooling

Yeah, I just saw it was sitting around empty, and since it looked like no one was maintaining it, I decided we might as well delete it until someone can maintain it. - DiligentTerrier (and friends) 21:57, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Consensus

What is your definition of consensus, with regards to editing an article? Is there an official Wikipedia policy? The main reason I am asking - and this is not related to any specific article at all, just for my info - if a group of editors decide in May that an article should have such-and-such sentence in, and there's a clear consensus, how long does that stand up? Another editor (or group) could come in July and think such-and-such sentence doesn't belong, and manage to form a new consensus. Obviously you wouldn't ask for a new consensus on something every day, but would we be talking weeks or months before a new discussion could even take place? Or is this something better handled on a case-by-case basis? WikiKingOfMishawaka (talk) 20:58, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Just a heads up

I thought you might like to know that the Awards Center page has been deleted, along with its newsletter.  :(

So, where do we go from here?

To new and even more interesting projects, of course!

As announced in the newsletter, I've been preparing to co-coordinate a large collaboration/competition called Around the World. It was going to be run at the Awards Center, but since that no longer exists, the collaboration will be hosted somewhere else.

Around the World will begin July 15th as planned - it's location will be announced soon.

It'll be a blast. In the competition, participants will be helping to develop over 200 pages (drafts, which will be moved to article space once they are ready), using advanced tools to edit every single one of them!

This is going to be interesting.

And the event shall have awards which are being created specifically for it as we speak!

If you would like me to keep you informed of this and other interesting collaborations I'll be working on and/or organizing in the future, please drop me a note on my talk page, and I'll be happy to keep you in the know.

I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,
