Your Wiki Defcon template is positively seizure-inducing. Your lucky I don't have epilepsy. However, I think it is a good way to get somebody's attention for a priority 1 RED ALERT. MichaelLinnear 01:58, 18 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image tagging for Image:Bra29.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Bra29.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Wdefcon edit

Hey, I really like the design of your defcon (thanks!) but is there any way to get it to show what the user wrote and also the level that the original defcon is? Thanks!--Daniel()Folsom T|C|U 20:58, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oh that's great – although I must say waht I meant was some of the alternatives the the Wdefcon update automatically with the Wdefcon, or so it seems. But either way I can def. manage this for now. Thanks!--Daniel()Folsom T|C|U 21:53, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Haha, well it's true! Haha, anyways, a few things: 1) That's awesome that you got the auto update thing going – although you might want to have it go faster that 1 day – given that the thing is changed sometimes every minute. 2)You might also consider having a "edit" thing like the normal one does, just so people that use it could do everything someone that uses the normal one can – again though your doing a great job!--Daniel()Folsom T|C|U 00:02, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Help edit

Hey could you help me out with this userbox – you seem to know a lot about templates, and frankly I have no clue what I'm doing wrong User:Danielfolsom/UBX/User Guilt

  • Right now I'm trying to say if someone enters a parameter, it shows up as a link (with user being it's prefix, for example if I entered Danielfolsom it would produce the equivelent of [[User:Danielfolsom|Danielfolsom]]) but if they don't enter a parameter, it doesn't show up as a link.

This seems to be the only thing so far, but in trying to fix it some weird things have been happening, so I got it down to the most basic version. i'd really appreciate it if you could help me out – but I completely understand if you don't have the time (especially since I'm already burdening you with the Wdefcon). So thanks either way!--Daniel()Folsom T|C|U 17:11, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

a quick note – if you go to the page you'll see two userboxes, one is the actual one, one is a test under <nowiki></nowiki>tags.--Daniel()Folsom T|C|U 17:13, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Uhh I'm kinda confused:
      • A)wouldn't u need a colon between the user and {{{1}}}?
      • B)Im trying to say if they don't enter anything, then it should just say user's, with no link.
if you can -check out what i have now, while it still doesn't work I think i'm getting closer--Daniel()Folsom T|C|U 19:27, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
And now for some reason the example you posted isn't working ...

Nice edit

Awesomeness, I'll try it out. However now things are going to get interesting. You know how there are some templates where for every parameter you have to say Template|a=b|c=d ect. and then there are some where you just do Template|b|d – well for the latter, is there any way to skip b and just put d in (as in Template||d – that's all I can think of, but it doesn't work). Again really appreciate this, --Daniel()Folsom T|C|U 19:54, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Crap! Ok, based on how many times I've had to ask you questions today, you officially get a "IGNORE DAN FOR A WEEK" card – but I swear, this is the last one, even if I have to stay off Wikipedia because of it. Ok so it might just be taking a while to load, but for some reason my template NoGod isn't workin when I put it in my userbox section (I placed it above my mcintosh one ... Yah I found it – thanks, although now the problem is I can't seem to space it out right. I tried putting half the userboxes in one div and floating them right and half in another (each half had it's own userboxtop and uerboxbottom thing) and floating them left -but they're stuck it seems like ... well hey, thanks for all your help – the week starts now.--Daniel()Folsom T|C|U 01:07, 23 January

Hey Could you help me out in styling my talk page, as of now you can easily see what I want to do, but whenever you hit that plus button it obviously gets screwed up (there's a table I want everything to go in, but the plus obvioulsy sends it out) – any suggestions? Edit summaries edit

From what I can tell, you're using an editing script whose name is "Yay" or "Yay Brains" or something like that. Problem: it's not leaving proper edit summaries, so that instead we get things like "replaced page with YAY" and "created page with YAY BRAINS". These look far too evocative of vandalism.

I would appreciate it if you would fix your script. Thanks. DS 15:06, 4 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Non-free use disputed for Image:Mechwarrior2box.jpg edit

  This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading File:Mechwarrior2box.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:39, 5 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Redirect of Supernova (shotgun) edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Supernova (shotgun), by Graeme Bartlett (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Supernova (shotgun) is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Supernova (shotgun), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Supernova (shotgun) itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 10:55, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Defcon Images edit

Hey there.

I noticed that a few of the images for your defcon template had been deleted. Would it be possible for you to recreate those images, and upload them again? I really like your defcon template, except for the fact that levels 2 and 1 don't actually have pictures.

Thanks, GrooveDog (talk) 14:57, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Unobrow edit

Hi Flyingidiot (love the name, btw),

Just wanted to drop by and let you know I took the liberty of removing the CSD tag you placed on Unobrow in favor of a redirect to Unibrow. I find that redirects are extremely effective with new users, as it either shows them that what they're trying to write about already exists or, in cases where the new page is created for purposes of vandalism, makes it harder for them to continue editing.

I think this instance was a simple misspelling on the original contributor's part, which is why I went to the redirect after being alerted of the edit conflict. Hope this is all right by you! --jonny-mt(t)(c) 04:44, 7 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Mexican werewolf in texas edit

A tag has been placed on Mexican werewolf in texas requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. βcommand 16:27, 29 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Heinkel he 111z.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading File:Heinkel he 111z.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:23, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy tags... edit

Please don't substitute speedy deletion tags, as you have been doing. These tags are meant to simply be transcluded, and substituting them crowds the page with a lot of junk that doesn't need to be there. Thanks. --lifebaka (TalkContribs) 23:43, 14 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Regarding Cory Brennan edit

Considering that it has been under construction for more than 20 minutes without significant addition of relevant information, I thought that it would be safe to assume that no information would be added. However, if you insist, I will let the article be until tomorrow, and then judging by its state it can be speedied/prodded. --Patar knight - chat/contributions 01:41, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with Image:MS1.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:MS1.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Melting point of diamond edit

Hi Idiot,

According to the article, above 1700 °C (1973 K / 3583 °F), diamond is converted to graphite. This is supported by a citation. I have therefore removed the statement that the melting point of diamond is 3546.86°C (3820°K) until you can supply a citation.

Best wishes

Your signature edit

Hi, FI- I noticed your rather large signature in an ANI thread just now, and I thought I might direct you to this guideline. I think it is rather excessively large, and you might want to consider changing it. Thanks! —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 12:41, 22 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Seconded. 25px size font is much too large for a signature. -kotra (talk) 03:48, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

By the way, I think I may know why you don't see it as being too large. What monitor resolution are you using? Because, while it might appear appropriately sized to you, to people with lower resolutions, it will look somewhat larger- for someone with a 1440x900 resolution, it's about 2.8% of the total height of the screen, and at 1024x768, 3.25%. Not an enormous difference, but because all the other text on the screen is sized relative to the screen's size, it can look huge in comparison; from my view, your sig is over 2 lines tall.
If it doesn't appear so huge to you, can I at least suggest that you change to a relative font size, such as em, x-height or percentage? That way it'll be rendered at the same height at all resolutions.
Otherwise, I'd like to refer you again to WP:SIG which says: "Markup such as <big> tags and <font size="3"> markup (which produce big text)...are to be avoided". From my viewpoint, your sig is the same height as if you had it encased in three sets of <big> tags. —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 16:22, 25 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
I have reduced my signature size by 5 px, as requested.--( fi ) 18:25, 25 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Not to be anal about this, but it's still the same size as two nested <big> tags (<big><big>( fi )</big></big>), and as per WP:SIG, we prefer that not even one <big> is used. I would change it to a more standard size, like 11pt, which would look like this: ( fi ). If visibility is what you're going for, it would still stand out more than most sigs. -kotra (talk) 18:57, 25 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Invitation to Meetup/Seattle6, a focus group edit

Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington (Seattle campus), and my group is reaching out to Wikipedians in the Puget Sound area. We're hosting a focus group designed to gather information on what Wikipedians would like to know about each other when interacting on Wikipedia. Our end goal is to create an embedded application that helps people quickly know more about others' history and activity on Wikipedia, and we feel our design will be much more useful if it's based on insights of users like you.

I'm hoping that the chance to help out local researchers, to engage in lively face-to-face discussion with other Seattle Wikipedians, and to contribute to Wikipedia in a new way will entice you to join us. The session lasts 2 hours and snacks are provided. Sessions will be held on UW Seattle campus – directions will be sent after registration. Your contribution will be greatly appreciated!

Willing and able to help us out? RSVP here. Want to know more? Visit our user talk page. Please help us contact other local Wikipedians, too! Commprac01 (talk) 02:36, 16 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Template loop edit

Could you perhaps tell me why the line

{{Wdefcon|prefix=User:Flyingidiot/alert/}}

results in a template loop, but the line

{{User:Flyingidiot/alert/Wdefcon}}

doesn't? Debresser (talk) 22:41, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

I guess because Wdefcon is a template, so after recognising the template it seeks for a "prefix" parameter in the template and doesn't find it. Debresser (talk) 13:38, 12 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

I saw your answer on my talk page. Let me show you:

{{Wdefcon|prefix=User:Flyingidiot/alert/}} I put it inside <nowiki>...</nowiki> tags now that you have seen it, to keep this page from appearing in Category:Template loop warnings.

See the template loop? Either way, I agree that it is preferable to use the other way, for this reason also. Debresser (talk) 17:42, 25 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
