Death of Adolf Hitler

The article is really shaping up, in no small part due to your suggestions and additions. I do think we should keep the parts as to how the final days play out in relation to others (but for Hitler & Braun) to a minimum; those people and events are covered in the Adolf Hitler and Battle in Berlin articles. With that said, it had been good working with you thus far and thanks for the kudos you wrote. Cheers, Kierzek (talk) 01:24, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

BTW-I just changed the part as to Hitler's death in his main article, as well. I copy-edited over the changes we did in the "Death" article Kierzek (talk) 13:04, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
Excellent! We have quite a bit of c editing to do on the second section, but I am sure we will get to it in due course. Farawayman (talk) 13:56, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
Note: I have just gone through the article in recent days for c editing work. See what you think. Cheers, Kierzek (talk) 03:55, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
Farawayman, it would be good to have your input as to the lede of the article as that has come up again in discussion by PBS; have a look when you get a chance. Cheers, Kierzek (talk) 17:39, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

the Squadron SAAF series of articles

I've noticed that you created the articles: 4 Squadron SAAF, 5 Squadron SAAF, 6 Squadron SAAF, 7 Squadron SAAF, 12 Squadron SAAF and 50 Squadron SAAF without any substantial content and haven't expanded them since 14 August. I uncommented the text on two of the articles (4 & 5) because I was trying to justify their existence in mainspace. I was about to do the same with number 6 when I realised that they were all exact copies of the same article with the number of the squadron changed which is why I suggest that you move them to a userpage to avoid possible deletion. --Mrmatiko (talk) 18:07, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

The notice of intended deletion worked wonders! All articles now brought up to Stub or Start status and AfD motivations added. Farawayman (talk) 15:10, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

8 Squadron SAAF

What's the story on this squadron ? Buckshot06 (talk) 10:38, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

Short lived WWII Sqn: Feb-Aug 1942. Citizen Force Sqn 1951-2001. Have simply not yet got round to adding it to the SAAF NavBox and creating the page. There are others too.... ToDo! Farawayman (talk) 10:51, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
By accident, got some data for you: '..In addition, 8 Squadron SAAF at Blomefontein consists of Impala MK II which are used in a light attack role (30mm cannons and capacity of up to 1 814 kg bombs or rocket pods.' (Ref: Rocklyn Williams, 'A Postmodern Military: Mission Redefinition and Defensive Restructuring,' in eds Gavin Cawthra and Bjorn Moller, Defensive Restructring of the ARmed Forces in Southern Africa, Ashgate 1997, ISBN 1 85521 951 4, p.79.) Doesn't sound like a CF squadron. I'll add it to the template. Hope this helps. Cheers Buckshot06 (talk) 11:12, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the added data. 8 Sqn created - and yes, it was not a Citizen Force unit for its entire life, latter years it was a permanent force sqn and played a prominent role in the S Afr Border War. Farawayman (talk) 20:27, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:32_Sqn_SAAF_insignia.png)

Thanks for uploading File:32_Sqn_SAAF_insignia.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 02:59, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Page moves

(Yes, I know you did this a month ago. It only came to my attention just now.)

You did a pagemove from "No. 40 Squadron SAAF" to "40 Squadron SAAF" by means of "using copy / paste and updated redirect".

Please do not ever do this, as it completely mangles the page history (which is going to take me a few minutes to clean up). If you cannot use the pagemove functionality to rename X to Y because (for instance) Y is already a redirect to X, then file a request on Wikipedia:Requested moves and an administrator will handle it. DS (talk) 13:39, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

OK, understood. Apologies. But please keep it as "40 Squadron SAAF" and not "No. 40 Squadron SAAF". Farawayman (talk) 13:52, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

South African Air Force

Thanks for all your hard work on the squadron articles. The main article has now been outdated by all your hard work and does not reflect all the added information you have found. I would update it, but I do not have all your sources - would you mind spending some time reassessing / updating / expanding the main article history section? Kind regards Buckshot06 (talk) 18:11, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi Buckshot. I will complete the red-linked disbanded squadrons first and then move on to the SAAF page. My interest and sources cover the period from inception to 1946, so I will update those sections accordingly. Regards. Farawayman (talk) 19:05, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

31 Squadron SAAF

Thank you for creating this article. When you create such beyond-stub, referenced articles, you may want to nominate them at T:TDYK for front-page exposure. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 16:48, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

PS. Ditto for Warsaw Uprising Airlift (1944), a very interesting article! It would be a shame if it was not DYKed. Let me know if I can be of any assistance. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 17:05, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
Will call on your assistance when it is finished! Thanks. Farawayman (talk) 23:22, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
OK, completed - will attempt to nominate at T:TDYK Farawayman (talk) 01:14, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Peer review limits changed

This is a notice to all users who currently have at least one open peer review at Wikipedia:Peer review. Because of the large number of peer review requests and relatively low number of reviewers, the backlog of PRs has been at 20 or more almost continually for several months. The backlog is for PR requests which have gone at least four days without comments, and some of these have gone two weeks or longer waiting for a review.

While we have been able to eventually review all PRs that remain on the backlog, something had to change. As a result of the discussion here, the consensus was that all users are now limited to one (1) open peer review request.

If you already have more than one open PR, that is OK in this transition period, but you cannot open any more until all your active PR requests have been closed. If you would like someone to close a PR for you, please ask at Wikipedia talk:Peer review. If you want to help with the backlog, please review an article whoe PR request is listed at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog/items. Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:05, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

South African Air Force

Hi. When you recently edited South African Air Force, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Duala (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

South African Air Force: are you of the opinion that all the various ensigns and roundels should actually be on Commons? That would be my reading of the WP:Gallery rules. Cheers Buckshot06 (talk) 23:41, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
Hi Buckshot - didn't really understand that one.... Do you mean that the roundels etc should not be displayed on the article page but should be moved to commons? I see you removed the gallery of aircraft types - didn't understand why? Farawayman (talk) 23:45, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
WP:GALLERIES says 'However, Wikipedia is not an image repository. A gallery is not a tool to shoehorn images into an article, and a gallery consisting of an indiscriminate collection of images of the article subject should generally either be improved in accordance with the above paragraph or moved to Wikimedia Commons. Links to the Commons categories can be added to the Wikipedia article using the {{Commons}}, {{Commons-inline}}, or {{Commons category}} templates. One rule of thumb to consider: if, due to its content, such a gallery would only lend itself to a title along the lines of "Gallery" or "Images of [insert article title]", as opposed to a more descriptive title, the gallery should either be revamped or moved to the Commons.' That's why I did what I did. What do you feel we should do, now being aware of the Galleries guidelines? Buckshot06 (talk) 23:57, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

SAAF Casa CN-235 retirement

Hi Farawayman, do you have a source for the withdrawl from service of this aircraft? I have not been able to find anything definitive (my Google-fu is weak today.) Roger (talk) 10:42, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

Information comes from Xairforces.net. Search for SAAF CN235. Never quite figured out how to cite a deletion! Farawayman (talk) 11:01, 2 March 2012 (UTC)
