A-League fixture tables edit

Thanks for the barnstar! Yeah, I did it in Excel with the wikitable markup in a formula so it wasn't that difficult. I've pretty easily done all the individual teams' game tables as well for the season articles. I'm hoping to be much more involved in the A-League WikiProject this year, as I found last season's article set very useful and interesting, so I'm happy to help you guys who are already doing a great job! Princess of Denmark edit

Hi there. I can see that you're having some problems with this article, and that Tosindmin's edits are much more counter-productive than they first appeared, based on his HD question. I have added an addendum to my comments on his talk page as a result, and hopefully, he might revise his approach. Per AGF, I have assumed some lack of knowledge on his part, but that is perhaps not the only factor, given the nature of his edits. If the situation continues without any improvement, I would recommend taking it to WP:3O. Regards, Adrian M. H. 15:04, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Virginia Tech massacre edit

You removed this entire See also section for internal links, but it is standard practice to include one in WP articles. Even though its links may already appear in other sections of the article, not all readers will read the entire article and be aware of them. By accessing the See also section readers can learn more and more in depth, and later add other links to the section. Let's put it back, please.  uriel8  (talk) 17:24, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the changes you made, i have to say the intro sentence is much better now. I am still worried about the first few paragraphs. I've been reading up on Proselines and its got me a bit worried. I know it an essay not a Policy or guideline. However with the larger than usual information available to me on this topic i want to make it as good as possible. whats your opinion? please advise. Cheers Wiki ian 07:23, 4 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

AFL Tasmania edit

I just like to say AFL is not likely to be played at Hobart anytime in the near future, for at least the next five years (Untill the Hawks agreement runs out). It would also be financially unviable for an AFL club to relocate to Hobart given Bellerive Oval has no lights, substandard facilities, smaller crowd seating and no Tasmania government assistance.

Therefore, Launceston would be considered the only logical option for an AFL team based in Tasmania. Besides, it already has the infrastructure, community support, government backing and geographic location.

I agree Hobart is considered an option but the reality is an AFL team would be based only in one location. It would be too dificult for an AFL club to be based at two home grounds in Tasmania. The money needed to support and maintain the two grounds would be too expensive.

I would be happy to respond to any of your questions. ~—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dwuu (talkcontribs) 02:49, 2 May 2007 (UTC).Reply

Highway diagrams edit

I have already sought small amounts of advice from SatuSuro regarding the Brooker Highway Table. I also based this table off Wikipedia:Manual of Style (exit lists). I'm not trying to argue a point here by stating this, but trying to assure you this Brooker table design was based off a template.
After reading Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Highways#Road diagram icons i have to say I am impressed by the format and overall look of the table. However it would be good to have a bit more detail (especially with major highway junctions); possibly change the red colour scheme to the Tasmanian Road shield green?; and, The key on the right hand side of the Template links to rail terminology, will we be able to get past this hurdle? regards Wiki ian 13:29, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Notability of Token Artists edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Token Artists, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Token Artists seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Token Artists, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 19:41, 19 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Tasmanian Catagories edit

Chuq, I noticed you removed Tasmania as a category from the Examiner Newspaper. I also notice the Tasmania category has both a 'sub-category' section and a 'general' pages section. A lot of the general pages should be in the sub-categories because people don't want to over-categorise, my question is why are some editors deciding some articles should be in sub-categories but other articles don't have to be, what is the consensus? Knobbly 04:02, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Allow me - god forsaken cat trawler speaking here - I have recently seen anxiety elsewhere over overcategorization - and also categories with one article only - for the variance that knobbly has addressed - is simply inconsistency that editors create or leave out due to sheer ignorance of correct categorization procedures - most of the whole australian project needs a big review of the whole thing - but where to start... ALeague MV and other shortcut templates edit

Hi there. I recently noticed that the A-League article had broken code for the table at A-League#All-time (see this edit). The problem was caused by the {{ALeague MV}} templates being classed as uncategorised, creating an extra line space. I've fixed only the Melbourne one so far, and I've modified the table so the code isn't broken.

But you might need to do something with these templates, apart from categorising them. Templates which contain a single link tend to be subst'ed and deleted. What you might like to do is incorporate the team icon into the template (eg. [[Image:MelbourneVictoryColours.png|20px]] [[Melbourne Victory FC|Melbourne Victory]]) and perhaps include a parser function that allows you to decide whether or not the image should be shown (since this template is not always used with the image). I'm not sure which would be the default setting, but if you want to keep these templates, this extra content and functionality may be required. Cheers - 52 Pickup 08:27, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Montagu Bay Primary School edit

Hey there. I was prodded by some random vandalism popping up on my watch list to review Montagu Bay Primary School. It was incredibly overly positive about the school, without providing any references whatsoever.

Happy for it all to go back but it needs sources. Much of what I left behind I tagged with "citation needed" and I may well strip that out too if it isn't replaced with something sourced.

If the article gets very small it won't stand an AfD. As I said six weeks ago, Albuera Street Primary School provided ample cause to delete this article also.

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Imparja logo.gif) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Imparja logo.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 05:18, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source for Image:AustraliaNumbered.png edit

Thanks for uploading Image:AustraliaNumbered.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:32, 2 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Lokal_Profil 20:32, 2 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:Maya jupiter promo shot.jpg edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Maya jupiter promo shot.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Longhair\talk 19:07, 3 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Careless undo edit

Undoing other peoples' edit(s) is not the most productive contribution. If the prior edit contributed something in the wrong way, then fixing the problem requires more than a casual revert. All that's needed is to look at what they did and why, and then revise it so that it's done in the right way. http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Manual_of_style says "Avoid links within headings." So then it's NOT quite mandatory to go ripping one out. If there's no other obvious place to link from, then why not? I tried to avoid it, but i couldn't. My edit explained what i did: "linked the term FHM". I did it because FHM was nowhere else linked on that page. Someone might actually want to know what FHM is (not that i'm a fan). Your contribution (at least you described it) was "rv linking in headings". (Already mentioned that linking in a heading is not cause for action.) Okay, so where did that link go? Did you just discard it? If you want to remove the link from the heading, then you should think to find a way to link from the same term from a place where it can be linked from. If you can't, then why not just leave the link in the heading until someone else comes along with the time and determination to fix the problem? "rv" is not a fix. Vandalism and mistakes get "rv"; imperfect contributions should be adjusted.

For my part i feel a chilling effect. Can i still "be bold", or do i have do edit defensively for fear that my (often miniscule) contributions will be un-done if they are not perfect?

Reading and contributing poses us all with tough, or at least annoying, decisions all the time.

I hate the bigger messes that appear, such as when multiple vandals hit a page, and then only half the splats get half-reverted because its all too confusing for the casual contributor who isn't determined enough to browse the history before editing. Sometimes a significant contribution gets lost in the shuffle.

Other big irk is to discover the "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "Harper Lee" articles, not that i've even read them closely, but to notice in their history that they get vandalized like every ten minutes when school is in session. Probably because so many juveniles get that book as a reading assignment. -Whiner01 06:16, 23 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:ScotchOakburnCollegeLogo.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:ScotchOakburnCollegeLogo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 05:33, 24 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:Hilltop_Hoods_group1.jpg edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Hilltop_Hoods_group1.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information.

Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 16:02, 14 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think the dead hobart/tas project needs a kick - i have put a current event on the hobart art - if you are indeed local - please put something else there - the project feels like a corpse at the moment - cheers SatuSuro 14:20, 22 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

G9 (consortium) edit

I believe that there is one person that keeps pushing pov. I believe that the IPs that they have used to edit are:

All of the ips resolve to someone that has optus as their ISP in Sydney.

I think that the article could be expanded, with a lot of things cited in order to discourage trying to push POV, as they might see that they cant provide the same evidence for their statement as all the other things.

Prime Minister of Australia edit

Hi Chug. Would you please immediately revert your recent edit about Bruce (because I'm one of the under-privileged non-admins and I can't do it). The result in Howard's seat is not yet clear; he may well lose, but we don't know that yet. Maxine McKew is still not claiming victory. -- JackofOz (talk) 02:02, 26 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Chuq - I reverted your change to the PM article as JackofOz noted above. While your addition is most likely to be correct in the long run, at the moment it is not factual as the AEC has not formally declared a winner for the seat of Bennelong yet. Cheers Manning (talk) 02:05, 26 November 2007 (UTC).Reply

Hi, Chuq (sorry for misspelling your name last time), and thanks. I think we have to wait till at least McKew claims victory and Howard concedes defeat. As of 35 minutes ago (ABC Radio 1pm news), McKew was still holding off claiming. Howard sort-of half conceded on Saturday night but he hasn't formally conceded yet, and it wouldn't be in his nature to do so until there's no possible hope any more. Afaik, there are still 5000 postal votes to count, which are expected to favour him, but let's wait and see. Cheers. -- JackofOz (talk) 02:38, 26 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hi again. Seems Maxine McKew is having a Clayton’s claim of victory. This says she "has declared that Bennelong is a Labor seat for the first time, in a press conference outside her campaign headquarters at Eastwood at midday. Ms McKew, who is 2500 votes ahead in the seat, declared: "The people of Bennelong have spoken for change. This is now a Labor seat for the first time," she said. "We feel we are comfortably ahead with a swing in every booth but one." But she said she was stopping short of officially declaring the seat hers." I really don’t quite know how the hell to interpret this. -- JackofOz (talk) 03:01, 26 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

edit Sport in Australia edit

Hi, It seems that you and I have differing views on the naming of soccer (football) in Australian sport articles. This is not made easier through different interpretations of Wikipedia policy. I would like to say that in reading all the discussions that i was able to find on the subject it is clear that this is an ongoing issue and to me is triggered by the fact soccer wishes to use the name football in all related sport articles in all countries. You have read all the discussions so there is no point repeating all the facts (and opinions) here. I would like to say however, it remains clear that the majority of people with constructive input favor the use of the term "Association football", and then the use of "football" for information directly relating to association football under that heading. This is in line with all the other sports (ie Gaelic Football, American Football, Australian Football etc.). However it is also clear that the original heading should remain until the dispute is resolved. This heading is "Soccer (football)", and is a lot more informative than "Football (soccer)". The first heading allows the majority of English readers to skip straight to the article rather than having to read the brackets as in "Football (soccer)" to figure out what sport the article is about. It is clear that there are many people who oppose the use of "Football (soccer)", but there are also people who oppose the change purely due to bias without adding constructive input.

Thankyou for your time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.101.21.229 (talk) 13:27, 14 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

NZFC Info Box edit

Thanks for letting me know, wish I'd found out sooner! Haha I'll leave the NZFC one as is for now so I can work on the red-linked pages before using the link you Infobox template. Would love to see what you've done for the A-League infobox but the link to your test page appears red. Cheers! :) Gialloneri (talk) 03:46, 31 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just updating on this - I *finally* finished the NZFC current season box (what a mission) so I've now made the new infobox similar to the one on your test page, and it was much easier than the last one! Thanks again for your help, and GO PHOENIX! Gialloneri (talk) 11:25, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

integration edit

Administrator friend, it's a surprise for me: I made only integration in article with valid sources and cricket is popular among Aussies but not in same highest level of Aussie football and rugby -13 players for team-. You can read in link of article:_______________________________

MAIN SPORTS ATTENDED

The 'main sports' presented in this publication are the twelve with the highest attendance reported by respondents.

Australian Rules football had the highest attendance rate of any sport in Australia with 2.5 million people aged 15 years or over reporting they had attended at least once in the 12 months prior to interview. This represents an attendance rate of 16%. Horse racing was the second most attended sport with 2.0 million people (13%) having attended at least once during this period.

Other sports which attracted over one million attendees were Rugby League (1.5 million) and motor sports (1.5 million).

The rate of attendance was higher for males than for females for the majority of the twelve main sports except for tennis and netball, for which the female attendance rate was 2% while the male rate was 1%.

Of the sports that were predominantly attended by males, half a million more males (1.5 million) than females (1.0 million) attended Australian Rules football and more than twice as many males as females attended motor sports (1.0 million males and 462,100 females). Other sports for which males dominated attendances were cricket (outdoor) (547,500 males and 183,200 females) and Rugby Union (449,600 males and 232,400 females). ________________________________________________________________________________________________

Evidence: Aussie football and rugby league are two most followed sports because horse racing has second attendance live but not by television like as rugby league. Site with data by television was linked by other editor.--PIO (talk) 12:42, 31 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
