September 2014 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "University of Rochester IR", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it suggests that you are editing on behalf of a group or that multiple persons use this account. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. Randykitty (talk) 22:23, 22 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy. It also appears that your account is intended to be used for the purpose of telling the world about an organization, person or cause that you consider worthwhile. Unfortunately, many good causes are not sufficiently notable for their own Wikipedia article, and all users are discouraged from editing in any area where they have an inherent conflict of interest. You may wish to consider one of these alternative outlets.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you.

You are unblocked. Before you do anything else, please to to WP:CHU/Simple to request a change of username. ~Amatulić (talk) 18:28, 26 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

OK, that's better. But Chris, are you employed by the U of R or just a student there? And, especially if the former ...

Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. Daniel Case (talk) 17:50, 24 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

I am employed by the University, and I believe that I understand these principles. Thus far I have only updated statistics for the University site for which the University is the primary (and for the most part the only) source, and similar statistics for products that we use. This does not appear to be inappropriate, and if I end up taking larger editorial steps, I will be sure to consider these rules carefully.University of Rochester IR (talk) 18:08, 24 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
