Chris Floyd - Empire Burlesque/Chris Floyd edit

you just need to post a line to that effect in either the edit summary or--if it's more than a line--on this talk page.

you just need to post a line to that effect in either the edit summary or--if it's more than a line--on this talk page.

also be careful about Wikipedia:No original research re: TN/MS. if you get info directly from chris, it still needs to be verifiable elsewhere (being on his website is a verifiable source, so content from there should be okay). a wholesale paste-in of text isnt a good idea, for the simple reason that a writer's website, used to promote his work, and an encyclopedia entry on a writer, have different aims, different voices/styles, and should generally include different information. we should endeavour to describe writers, not to "sell" them in the sense a marketing/promotional website would.

i'd would also suggest not creating a new page at Chris Floyd for the time being. two reasons. 1, it might look as if you were trying to circument the deletion nomination. 2, if it's moved, rather than recreated, the edit history will remain intact, which is beneficial for future editors and for legal reasons concerning licensing content.

also (and i just learned this week) it's apparently bad form to delete content from your talk page w/o archiving it. i used to just delete mine whenever it got long, but apparently it can be interpreted as an attempt to hide criticism (which is not something i suspect you of, of course). sorry. "you just need to post a line to that effect in either the edit summary or--if it's more than a line--on this talk page." is in reference to the copyvio deletions. Nateji77 21:51, 25 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

I have rewritten and condensed the new page from the bio at Chris Floyd's website to present the data more like what is available for other journalists such as Alexander Cockburn. As the original writer of the bio at the site - I am not violating any copyrights. Thanks for all the help Nateji77. As I learn more I hope to contribute more to Wikipedia - but I see there is a lot for me to pick up still.

if you look here you'll see that no other articles link to Chris Floyd. if the afd comes out "keep" i'd suggest creating some links in from relevant articles. Nateji77 10:14, 29 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

It's interesting that it's now slated for deletion again. With no explanation. Nothing. What can I do? The page is not much different than many others such as Alexander Cockburn... and there are other writers/journalists that are not even in the same league as Chris. I don't really know what to do next. Caribmon 16:46, 4 October 2005 (UTC)caribmonReply

and unfortunately.... the first page has now been moved over the second, cleaned up page. do you have a backup of the new version you did, that used to be at Chris Floyd? i asked the admin i think did the move if we could get it back, but if you have it saved on yr computer thatd obviate the need to go thru whatever hassle retrieval might entail. AfD nomination of Chris Floyd edit

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Chris Floyd. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chris Floyd. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:10, 27 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Eusta.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Eusta.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 11:43, 13 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Chrisfloyd.jpg edit

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Chrisfloyd.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 11:14, 30 May 2010 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:14, 30 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

File copyright problem with File:Chrisfloyd.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Chrisfloyd.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. feydey (talk) 11:38, 30 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Chris Floyd edit

A tag has been placed on Chris Floyd, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Bonewah (talk) 17:49, 1 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • As this article was deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chris Floyd, you can't just put it back in again. I see that you have added a long string of references, but most of them are just links to articles Floyd has written. If you want the article back, you should first approach user Kurykh (talk · contribs), the administrator who closed the deletion discussion; if he does not agree, you can take it to WP:Deletion review. Kurykh will be able to see your new version to compare it with the previously deleted one, but if you want to go to Deletion Review ask below here and I will "userfy" it for you - restore it into a page in your user space - so that it will be visible for the DRV discussion. Speedy deletion nomination of Chris Floyd edit

A tag has been placed on Chris Floyd requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

March 2020 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, discussion pages are meant to be a record of a discussion; deleting or editing legitimate comments, as you did at Talk:John Clippinger, is considered bad practice, even if you meant well. Even making spelling and grammatical corrections in others' comments is generally frowned upon, as it tends to irritate the users whose comments you are correcting. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. In addition, you added a new signature to an existing talk page message from another account. While there is reason to suspect that both accounts may have the same owner, even within that adding a new signature creates a misleading and confusing timestamp on the comment it was added to. I've restored my comment (and the attribution thereof) and have added a signature of record to the comment you added your signature to. Nat Gertler (talk) 13:54, 6 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
