Question about the old prod template

Hi. You placed a BLPPROD tempate on an article I was translating from the German wikipedia (Charles Enz), and also placed an "old prod" template on its talk page. I quickly satisfied the BLPPROD problem, and the BLPPROD was duly removed. I would now like to remove the irrelevant "old prod" from the talk page, but another editor is contesting this on the grounds that "old prod" templates, one placed, must be perpetual. Is this actual policy, and if so, can you point me to the relevant document? Sorry to bother you with such a dumb question, but I haven't been able to find the document on my own. Thanks in advance for your help. Eleuther (talk) 05:40, 9 January 2020 (UTC)

@Eleuther: I see you already had a very length discussion on this matter with other editors. What I will say is if any other editors (that use Twinkle or similar scripted program) tries to tag the article for deletion, they'd get a notification that the article was already previously nominated for deletion (and obviously survived the tag to remain live on Wikipedia). --Cahk (talk) 08:17, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
Hi, Cahk, thanks for the information about Twinkle. However, I'm not really concerned about future PRODs. If they come, they come, I won't oppose them personally. At the moment, I'm only concerned with the much smaller and specific question of locating the WP documentation of the policy that says that an old-prod template, once placed, may never be removed. Do you know of such a location? I haven't been able to turn it up with google searches on obvious things like "wikipedia old prod template", but WP policies are sometimes stored in non-obvious places.
The closest I've found is an inconclusive discussion on the template's talk page (here), where CapnZapp supports my position that it should be okay to remove the template, once the notability of the subject has been established, and TJRC disputes this. However, neither of these editors cites an official WP policy. Thanks in advance for your help. Eleuther (talk) 12:03, 10 January 2020 (UTC)

The policy clearly states [Proposed deletion (PROD)] may only be placed on a page a single time, see WP:PROD.

There likely is no stated regulation on the {{Old prod}} template, since its whole existence is to help support the PROD policy. As its documentation states: The purpose for this template is to reduce repeated proposed deletion (PROD) nominations of the same article.

My best answer, then, is: it's up to local consensus on each article to remove old PROD notices - and when I say old I mean "clearly very old and no longer serving its purpose". I would suggest (as a personal observation only) the argument "the talk page header is long and cluttery as is" works better than "the old prod notice acts like a badge of shame". That is, don't remove it just because you don't like it, remove it because it helps readability of the talk page. And if someone objects, respect that and leave it.

All this said and done, I will note my removal of template at the Lost in Space page (after the linked discussion came to a close) remains uncontested. Cheers CapnZapp (talk) 13:01, 10 January 2020 (UTC)

Okay, thanks everybody, I'm sorry to have been bothering you with such a dumb question. I take the conclusion to be the following. There is no official WP policy that says an old-prod template may never be removed, or that states the circumstances under which it may or should be removed. So the removal must be decided on a page-by-page basis, with respect to all the other WP policies regarding consensus. Eleuther (talk) 19:44, 12 January 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination

Hi, I saw you put a CSD A3 tag on the article SVR Sons. However, I just talked to the creator of the page, and gave him up to 08:50 UTC, perhaps even 08:55. Thanks for noting. tLoM (The Lord of Math) (Message; contribs) 08:48, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

@The Lord of Math: It was tagged as A3 because the user has been creating numerous new articles in a short span, all had the same information before blanking them out. As a new page patroller, I tagged those pages so others don't have to waste time to review it again. If the author decide to add content, the administrator will simply ignore my tag and remove it. I will leave it for now, but please don't revert simply because you want to give more time to the editor. I placed the tag only after reviewing 6 articles from the same person.--Cahk (talk) 08:50, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. Sorry for all this inconvenience caused, but I didn't know about this user. And by the way someone else marked it as a blatant hoax (why?) so I guess it won't be much of a difference anyway. I'm new too, so thanks a lot. tLoM (The Lord of Math) (Message; contribs) 08:53, 17 January 2020 (UTC)
@The Lord of Math: It's likely a hoax because the source URL on Sanapala Vallabha refers to a different person. The person is also linking various similarly named organization as "his" own.--Cahk (talk) 08:56, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

Your message

Hi Cahk, you left me a message to tell me it looked like I wrote an article about myself. I did not. The article that exists about me was written by someone else many months ago. What I did yesterday was translate it, as I believe I could, and saved it as personal draft, which is what I was allowed to do. The page that exist about me is legitimate and should not be deleted. I am a published author and artist with a legitimate biography. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mariogoldenuniverse (talkcontribs) 17:07, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020

Hello Cahk,

Source Guide Discussion

The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.

Redirects

New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.

Discussions and Resources
Refresher

Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

User talk:DavidAngulo00

How is User talk:DavidAngulo00 eligible for WP:G5? Could you point me at the block that applied at that point? Thanks, Cabayi (talk) 08:15, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

@Cabayi: spambot, plus account globally locked.--Cahk (talk) 16:15, 20 March 2020 (UTC)
WP:G5 - "To qualify, the edit or page must have been made while the user was actually banned or blocked. A page created before the ban or block was imposed or after it was lifted will not qualify under this criterion."
However, there's nothing preventing you from overwriting the talk page with {{Locked global account}}. Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 16:28, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

The "The Seven Spirits And Fourteen Powers" spammer

Hi Cahk. Looks like we might need an Wikipedia:Edit filter request in this case. How are your regex skills? I'd do it myself but... OK, the internet starts off with all these teeny tiny magnets that are either "1" or "0"... and ends up with an ethernet cable to my desktop computer. Cahk, I was creating my sandbox for a test. IT was NOT public yet, and it was my first post. I asked you guys why you deleted and got a bunch of non-sense replies; "try to avoid working in the company..." What?? I'm just helping out a friend to share public information of his new-to launch startup with the public information about the company that is in the website.

@Mrdigital01: "startup company where I'm an intern at" means you have a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Beyond that, G11 speedy does not imply you were selling anything per se, but the content was promotional in nature. Sandbox content is not immune to speedy deletion if it meets the criteria. While I tagged the page, I am not an administrator that deleted the page.--Cahk (talk) 16:08, 7 May 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Aabha Hanjura

Tomos recently created the video called "The Great Realisation" - which has over 60 million views across various online platforms. It has also been turned into a book by Harper Collins ("The Great Realisation"). Tomos is also a movie producer and co-founder of "Odds On Productions". Following "The Great Realisation", he's been interviewed by The Washington Post, The New Zealand Herald and The Today Show. Regarding Draft of Biography for Mr. Gene Pelc

Dear Cahk,

Thank you very much for your note on this page.

It is not autobiographical. It is biographical and I am a 3rd party to the subject trying to create a page for him within WIkipedia.

Stan VanderWerf - Wikipedia Page

Hi! I'm working on the Stan VanderWerf page and wanted to make sure it meets the requirements for Wikipedia. I'm relatively new in contributing to Wikipedia and my interest is in learning how to create good living biography pages. I hope to create more biographies that can help people find factual information about significant people who are contributing to the community at large. I would greatly appreciate any tips you can give!

I noticed that some of the verbiage used is considered promotional, which I'm adjusting now. I've been reading the guidelines closely and I'm working to make sure that I meet those guidelines in the articles I create.

Currently, I'm working on citations for this page and noticed that there were some problems with local citations. It seems that I need to find more prominent, recognized articles which I'm looking for.

Mr. VanderWerf is a highly decorated veteran who has went on to become a Commissioner in Colorado Springs. I'm wanting to place his military decorations into the article as factual support.

I would appreciate any tips you can give me to better this article. I'm using other living biographies like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Cotton as guides to creating a good biography page.

Is there anything specifically I can be working on to help this page?

Thank you, for your insight! It's much appreciated!

PeytonRose (talk) 16:52, 22 July 2020 (UTC) PeytonRose

@PeytonRose: I quickly scanned the comments on the deletion discussion, and it appears the subject is not necessarily widely known outside of the locality. Having military/state order may increase notability (albeit marginally), it would require additional sources (i.e. newspaper, articles, etc.) to ensure the article will survive the deletion process. I would suggest engaging the editors who have commented on the deletion process for further guidance. --Cahk (talk) 02:00, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
Hi Cahk Thank you, very much for the insight. Yes! My main intention is to begin recognizing Combat Veterans who received Medals of Honor and went on to contribute to society. I realized that an FOI was needed to cite Mr. VanderWerf's Military accomplishments (as indicated by another editor). His story, like a ton of our Veterans, is pretty amazing. I'm reaching out to the other Wiki editors who are wanting it deleted to see how we can go about recognizing Military Veterans who have great accomplishments in service and in society. I come from a military family and saw Mr. VanderWerf's story and thought it would be a great place to start in recognizing accomplished veterans. PeytonRose (talk) 17:10, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

Question about deleted pages.

Hello Cahk,

I am new at this, so I hope I am reaching out to you correctly.

I was in the process of creating the Manuel A. Montilla page, but realize I should have created a draft as I had not added what makes him notable. Furthermore, I was adding a list of publications to another page (it took me a while) and they were removed. I understand why, but did not realize how quickly things would be deleted if they did not have proper citations and references. Is there anyway for me to retrieve the work I did so that I can edit the page once more, but ensure everything is acceptable before publishing?

Thanks so much, Tensack — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tensack (talkcontribs) 19:07, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

New Page Patrol December Newsletter

Hello Cahk,

Year in review

It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

Reviewer of the Year

John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.

NPP Technical Achievement Award

As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.
