Please be more careful with your G3 hoax tags in the future. You tagged Biggest ikan bilis as a hoax, whereupon a simple Google search ([1]) reveals that "Ikan Bilis" can refer to an anchovy in SE Asia, and thus this would be better off as a redirect to Anchovy. The article was not about any Ikan Bilis, it was about a specific one. The last line of the article stated "The world's biggest ikan bilis was spotted eating the world's smallest whale. I get a whole of nine results on Google News for Swissôtel Chicago and only two for "Swissôtel Chicago", all of those being non-notable announcements of some events that would have been expected from such a hotel anyway. Also, the prod would have lasted for seven days which is more than enough time for the creator to expand their article. Thanks for your opinion but I am seriously confused, you cite 'reliable source' as the reason that my entry couldn't be added yet I thought that national newspapers and the BBC were of the highest standard proving 'reliable sources'? Mr McGuiness HIMSELF states on the record in the public domain that he was threatened. [[2]] [[3]]

These threats are all part of a wider attack on Sein Fein and the Peace Process and subsequently is HUGE news as reflected by the media, just because its uncomfrtable reading to some people makes it no less relevant. Anyway, please explain to me how the worlds largest and most respected new agency, Belfast's Largest Newspaper or the man himself are not 'reliable sources'? Okay, I'll reply here, as I see it has been discussed at length on the article's talk page. It appears that you tried to add this information, with some of your own political commentary approximately a year ago, and were blocked for edit-warring as a result. Now you've done the same thing, and posted very similar comments about it on the article's talk page. It appears that your intent is to disparage the subject, which is completely inappropriate for any article, especially for a biography of a living person. Any information must be sourced to multiple, non-trivial coverage in mainstream media, and must be free of interpretation or allegations.
Even if you are able to write a paragraph about this event that is neutral and reliably sourced, that still does not mean you have a right to put it in the article. There needs to be consensus for inclusion, which means that other editors have to agree that this information is significant enough to be placed in the article. At present, you are the only one who is fighting for inclusion of this information, so you do not have consensus. Not only that, but your history with the article suggests that it will be impossible for you to obtain consensus. I strongly suggest you drop the issue. Brad 14:23, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Well, if:

'The PSNI warned Martin McGuinness in 2009 that a threat has been made to his life.[1] The threat was issued by dissident republicans after Mr McGuinness's commented on the murder of two British soldiers and a police officer 'as traitors to Ireland'.[2]' isn't neutral then I don't know what is. Mr McGuiness clearly states that himself in the tv interview which I am sure you have viewed. Just because a editor doesn't like the facts I can't see how they can stop it, so far only one other editor called the facts irrelevant, ask yourself how can death threats associated with the NI peace process be 'irrelevant'? The threats were the latest in a long line of circumstances leading up to the current impact the Real IRA are having on the peace process. As for 'disparagement' I don't quite understand what you mean? How can asking for this insertion be described as 'disparagement'?

So what do I do now, can you offer any advice beyond dropping it? (which I won't do) I feel that the threats are indicative of an ongoing attack of the peace process and deserve inserting.Twobells (talk) 14:08, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

The paragraph has since been removed and the section reworked. I was referring to the second paragraph under Year Zero in this version, which was entirely unsourced and contained original research. Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.

For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

On an article section of a religious college, an editor persists on listing exclusively a couple of graduates who are notorious criminals. I feel his exclusive list of graduates is unfair to the many other graduates who are not criminals and who are unfairly represented by this editor who seemingly is opposed to that particular religious organization.

The wiki article is called Hyles-Anderson College and the section is called Alumni, while the seemingly biased editor is called MrOllie, but created a new editor acc that he is using to send threats and erase my changes. His new acc is HHaeyyn89.

My request is for you to evaluate the proposed addition:

A X01153943 added a new section titled Distinguised Alumni that I fully support. The new section is listed as follows:

I realize that the format for this new addition may not be the best, but I still feel that leaving the biased editor's list of only two criminals as "THE ALUMNI" is unfair. Could you please help include at least a couple of these prominent alumni into the list of Alumni to have a proper and fair sample?

A stated reason these alumni was erased from the last was that "A pastor in Flowery Branch, Georgia, a town of less than 4,000 people, is not notable" even though X01153943 stated that "The location of a church is irrelevant when assessing notability."

The criterion used to have these alumni included is that they are grads that are Pastors of mega-churches and most well-known large churches (over a 1000 members) and college founders.

I feel my error may be that I do not know yet how to place the information in Wiki the way I am supposed to place it. Either way, I feel there is still a need to meet at a middle ground on this issue. X01153943 even shortened the list to include only those with verifiable notability, and even requested assistance from the editor in question to obtain a middle ground. Request was deleted.

I invite you to the yearly Berlin hackathon. It's 1-3 June and registration is now open. If you need financial assistance or help with visa or hotel, just mention it in the registration form.

This is the premier event for the MediaWiki and Wikimedia technical community. We'll be hacking, designing, and socialising, primarily talking about ResourceLoader and Gadgets (extending functionality with JavaScript), the switch to Lua for templates, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Labs.

Our goals for the event are to bring 100-150 people together, including lots of people who have not attended such events before. User scripts, gadgets, API use, Toolserver, Wikimedia Labs, mobile, structured data, templates -- if you are into any of these things, we want you to come!

I also thought you might want to know about other upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.

It says to generally avoid external links to Facebook, but an exception is when it's an official page of the article's subject. It is Sam Denham; he's just called Denham Orbital on there. He is a member of Fanderson and occasionally comments on pictures in the Facebook group. He isn't verified with the blue tick, but we should assume good faith. It may be that a link to Facebook is okay, but it does not count as a reference as Facebook is not a reliable source. The big problem right now is that we have an article about a living person which does not prove the accuracy of the information. Please read WP:BLP. Bradv 21:07, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
I put the link to Facebook under "External links" - I didn't put it under "References" just in case someone thought it counted as one. There is one source in the article - Supermarionation Cross-Sections - an officially licensed product. Therefore it is an official source. Now getting onto the second sentence in the article which is unsourced: the source is the books themselves. On the front of the Haynes manual is his name. Just because something is popular doesn't necessarily mean we can write an encyclopedia article on it. Wikipedia relies on third-party reliable sources for its information. You can read more about the notability guidelines here.
Please note also that if you are using Wikipedia to promote a particular company or product, that is considered a conflict of interest and your work will very likely be removed. Bradv 19:25, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
Unfortunately, I must say I find your reply unnecessarily abrupt and quite insulting. COI says "contributing to Wikipedia about yourself, family, friends, clients, employers, or your financial or other relationships...". I have no affiliation with PicPick apart from looking for a page for it that I found didn't exist yet - I saw the German Wikipedia had an article and decided to create a page for the English Wikipedia. I based it on the format of the German page but added 4 times the external references and links.
I have just passed 11 years on Wikipedia and I'm well aware of notability guidelines and also how arbitrarily they are applied in many cases. I'm also aware of reliable sources - which is why if you look at my edits you will see I heavily reference my own and others work.
You didn't actually answer either of my questions. What criteria are you applying specifically here? If it's valid and applicable to other software of the same type then the other articles need to be tagged too. Outside a few like Word, Snagit, IrfanView, it seems to me - everything else should have the same rules applied.


Actually - before I signed off I did read further and discovered this which I wasn't aware of Wikipedia:Notability (software). My reading of this line would suggest to me that it should be included:

I reviewed this draft yesterday in AFC, and then requested a technical move of the draft over the redirect in order to move the draft into mainspace. This was declined by admin User:EdJohnston, who thought that the draft was promotional in tone. I was willing to defer to another experienced editor. It now appears that you have requested that the redirect be speedy-deleted to make way for the draft, which is basically just another way of requesting that the draft be moved into mainspace. If you agree with me that the draft is ready for mainspace, then we can just wait for the speedy deletion and one of us can then formally accept the draft. I would like to address your comment on notability on my draft. My intent was to add a significant early release in the history of the label (Rhino) to the extensive number of articles on its compilation albums (with a wiki category sub-list that I included) . The subject, this recording, also is linked to a musical genre - teenage tragedy songs and could help to clarify the (muddled) definition of that genre.

Consider that this draft is a) not a stub and b) has met these criteria for notability: 1. Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent from the musician or ensemble who created it. This criterion includes published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, books, magazine articles, online versions of print media, and television documentaries.

-- In response to the first review of the draft, by Robert McLenon, ("While this draft appears to satisfy the minimum notability requirements for references, more would be desirable.") I added more sources/references. This draft includes references to critical reviews and features in three national publications as well as a book chapter and two encyclopedic databases, one for recordings in general and another devoted to novelty songs.

2. The single or album has appeared on any country's national music chart. -- The release data that I have referenced (sourced not only from my copy but as entered on Discogs) includes mention of chart positions for all of the tracks on the album. I also came across a chart mention for one of the songs by Joel Whitburn, that I chose not to use since his methods and Billboard chart research have been questioned).

Hey I'm wondering why my article was declined. It doesn't read like an essay because I don't have any personal opinions in it. I removed the only line that was an opinion. All sentences are cited. You may want to begin the article with an explanation of what it's about. What does RBC stand for? Also, go through and fix the formatting issues (don't begin paragraphs with spaces), and make the whole article more readable. Hello,

I am working quite hard to get this submission done. I believe I have followed all the required guidelines. The Ottawa Citizen is Ottawa's largest newspaper, and part of a national chain of papers and media outlets. The other sources, such as the Ottawa Business Journal and Invest Ottawa are both major independent media sources. I am also curious why companies such as Intel are able to have pages on Wikipedia while the one I run is not. Both are commercial enterprises, however, for some reason that is not clear to me, SageTea is not allowed on Wikipedia.

I have gone to some length to cite the standards upon which SageTea is based. Unified Modeling Language has been standard in the software community for more than 20 years. SageTea is a modest improvement on that standard. It is also a published technology, having been recently approved after a lengthy review by the US Patent and Trademark Office.

So, I am a bit mystified as to why this article is not being accepted.

David, I don't believe this company meets our criteria for inclusion for companies. I have read the article in the Ottawa Citizen, and it doesn't mention much about the company at all, and certainly not all the things that are included in your article. Hi Brad,

the company is a supplier to the Government of Canada, which is the largest purchaser of software in the country. However, since this appears to be a point of contention, I will remove that part for now. I am sure someone else will fill that in at some point.

Hello, regarding my AFC submission "What Every Science Student Should Know," there was no feedback left as far as how the page can be improved. When it was previously reviewed and noted to read "more like an advertisement," I removed all language of this nature, and in its second review the only feedback was that it was not well cited but otherwise it appeared to be ready for implementation on Wikipedia. Since then, I added many new references before resubmitting, but very little new language. You have tagged it as "reading more like an advertisement," and I don't believe it does anymore. If the book is truly notable, someone else will write about it. Not only does the article appear to be promotional in nature, I don't believe this book meets the notability standard for inclusion.
