Hi,

I noticed for this MFD, the two articles that myself and another person suggested should be added to the MDF weren't deleted. Did you mean to not delete those, or should they be deleted as well? Also, I'm a little surprised that the MDF wasn't relisted for more discussion considering that that no one really !voted (though I had meant to come back and !vote for deletion, but just forgot). Regardless, if you think there was a consensus to delete the three articles that started out in the discussion then I think the other two articles that were added should also be deleted. Main page appearance: Buildings of Nuffield College, Oxford

This is a note to let the main editors of Buildings of Nuffield College, Oxford know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on March 21, 2012. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/March 21, 2012. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or his delegate Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:

The buildings of Nuffield College, one of the colleges of the University of Oxford, are to the west of the city centre of Oxford, England, on the former site of the largely disused basin of the Oxford Canal. The architect Austen Harrison, who had worked in Greece and Palestine, was appointed by the University to design the buildings. His initial design, heavily influenced by Mediterranean architecture, was rejected by Nuffield, who called it "un-English" and refused to allow his name to be associated with it. Harrison reworked the plans, aiming for "something on the lines of Cotswold domestic architecture", as Nuffield wanted. Construction of the second design began in 1949 but was not finished until 1960. The buildings are arranged around two quadrangles, with residential accommodation for students and fellows in one and the hall, library and administrative offices in the other. Reaction to the architecture of the college has been largely unfavourable. In the 1960s, it was described as "Oxford's biggest monument to barren reaction". However, the architectural historian Sir Nikolaus Pevsner, although unimpressed with most of the college, thought that the tower helped the Oxford skyline and predicted that it would "one day be loved". Replaceable fair use File:St Hughs Crest.svg

  • "The issue here is that File:St-Hughs College Oxford Coat Of Arms.svg is a freely usable file to the same effect as the file you uploaded. Bencherlite 12:20, 17 May 2012 (UTC)"

Hi Bencherlite, the file I uploaded nearly 2 years ago so it predates the one added by ChevronTango, which is a very recent addition and not authorised by the College.

St Hughs Crest.svg is used in all current College documentation (This includes both printed and online material).

This crest was selected by the College as part of a branding exercise that happened a few years ago, to replace the large amount of "interpretations" that had come into existence over the past decade because of personal opinions on what constitutes a superior crest.

ChevronTango's crests do not use official colours nor are they accurate in size or dimensions to the existing College crest.

I do believe that Oxford University Colleges and Permanent Private Halls should have a common specification for the format of their crests, but this is very much a matter for discussion within the University as it is really a branding issue, certainly its not the responsibility of an individual to decide at will.

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Suicide of Tyler Clementi (2nd nomination)

I see why you closed it as a snow keep. In the ordinary way of things I would support that view. The challenge with having closed it that way is that a single editor, the one who failed to nominate it correctly, is expressing enormous dissatisfaction with any and all Wikipedia processes that s/he finds not to be pleasing. Under these circumstances it might have been paradoxically more pragmatic to allow it to run to full term.

I'm absolutely not complaining about your decision. I simply felt you might value the background. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 08:59, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

I had read the talk page of the article before the closure, as it happens. I didn't particularly feel that the user needed to be indulged further or that other people should have to waste their time with the AfD, hence the closure; but I can see that opinions might differ on that point. Thanks for your message. BencherliteTalk 09:02, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi there. You recently deleted Norway national football team results per A10, so I'm wondering if that page had just as little information as the same user have added to Norway national football team (see here) or if it was anything else useful. Thanks for your comments on TRM's talk page. How does this look User:Harrias/sandbox#Winners as an example of including the reasons for the award? I need to polish the language a little on those two and make sure I'm not guilty of close-paraphrasing, but that's a fairly reasonable idea of how it will end up. Dean Ireland's Professor of the Exegesis of Holy Scripture

Hi Bencherlite,

I noticed that you reverted some of my edits to Dean Ireland's Professor of the Exegesis of Holy Scripture saying that I had introduced factual errors into the article while copyediting. I reworded the sentences in question because they are unclear as they stand. The first sentence of the article states that the "position" was "established" in 1847, while the second sentence states that the "professorship" was "instituted" from 1816 until 1842. Is the difference in dates explained by a difference between position and professorship, or between establishment and institution? In this context, I would have normally understood the position to be the professorship, and I would have thought establishing this position/professorship to be the same thing as instituting it. I am not saying that the article contradicts itself; I am sure that there is a meaningful distinction, but the distinction is not apparent to me and is likely to be lost on other readers as well. If you would be willing to reword those two sentences in a way that maintains the meaning you intend while also effectively communicating that meaning to an uninitiated audience, I would be greatly appreciative. I think you have done a great job with the article and I would like to see it up on the main page.

Neelix (talk) 16:36, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi Bencherlite,
That makes so much more sense! I have altered the sentence slightly to more clearly express the understanding you have given me. Thank you for explaining it to me.

Peer-review for "List of people from.."

I'm trying to create some consensus on what a "List of people from..." page should look like. The List of people from Park Ridge, Illinois has had the most editor input and is the only such list of a US city which is fully cited. It was previously nominated for featured list, but the conclusion was to bring it to Wikipedia:Peer review instead.

The current peer review can be found here, and all are encouraged to say their piece, as a successful featured list is likely to be used as a standard reference for such lists. --Dkriegls (talk to me!) 23:30, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

I'm wondering what the easiest way to go about that would be, since this coding might as well be in Korean for me. Also, what is the number of "random" DYKs that FPO reviewers expect? I'd be happy to go digging for more, but it's a lot of work, especially under the "Most recent 5" paradigm that I had used. Achowat (talk) 17:45, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Ok, so this is my first time bringing something to Featured, so please excuse my ignorance as to the next steps. Is this like DYK or GA where one reviewer is enough, or is the impetus now on me to find some other reviewers and see if they agree with you? Essentially, what is the next steps for me to take? Alumni JSTOR

I registered but never heard again - have you got it? Johnbod (talk) 22:33, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

That would be kind. I had (somewhat to my own amazement) read the whole of Chauduri's bio of Muller (in India, where books were hard to find in those days). I'd offer spot checks but it must be somewhere in the loft - if things get desperate I might launch an exhibition. I liked his other stuff a lot. Johnbod (talk) 22:42, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
Thanks very much, sorted now. I think that page wasn't ready when I first registered - you just left your name. Johnbod (talk) 21:20, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

Is this a valid redirect?

Wikipedia:HEYYOUTWOQUITINSULTINGEACHOTHERWITHFANCIFULREDLINKEDSHORTCUTS

Is this really a valid redirect? I was going to nominate it for deletion as it seems unlikely to be useful. But I decided to check with its creator first. What is the purpose? meshach (talk) 00:55, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) It looks like it was only ever used in this discussion. Achowat (talk) 02:35, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia:ITSOKAYITHINKWEGOTASOLUTIONTOTHISONE listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Wikipedia:ITSOKAYITHINKWEGOTASOLUTIONTOTHISONE. Since you had some involvement with the Wikipedia:ITSOKAYITHINKWEGOTASOLUTIONTOTHISONE redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion (if you have not already done so). meshach (talk) 06:29, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Credo account

Hi Bencherlite, if you don't need your account then would you be kind enough to give it to me? I've some Wikipedia-related research work to do, and I think Credo Reference would be a real help, thanks and regards. — Bill william comptonTalk 14:41, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. It's been suggested [at Wikipedia:Credo accounts] that an approved user can give his/her account. But maybe you are right about the redistribution of old accounts. — Bill william comptonTalk 14:44, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

I'm happy with the block and propose no further edits at this time. Nonetheless, Wikipedia needs to 'humanise' the 'black art' regulations it imposes as so called ‘guidelines’, along with adequately educating its community members to ‘pass-on’ appropriate education to others rather than dictate. Community members are evidently infused with an insipid or tainted agenda and may become disillusioned with Wikipedia’s overall objective. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Opn800 (talkcontribs) 12:24, 24 August 2012 (UTC)
