I appreciate what this bot did for me.

The Boston Club

What's the problem with The Boston Club article, as all sources are correctly cited and not plagerised? 76.182.176.71 (talk) 01:15, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

I'm glad you've asked the user who reverted your edits what was meant by "Rv block evasion". My guess is that user thinks you previously used User:GreyDiomed/User:Rober King Carter and are now using an IP address for block evasion. Whatever the issue is, it's unrelated to my bot's little edit. GoingBatty (talk) 03:48, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

Thank you

CS1 name errors

The bot seems to be removing "|last=" but leaving "|first=" populating so causing " |first= missing |last= " errors, see for example [1]. I have spent a lot of time today correcting errors before realising the bot is causing them. --John B123 (talk) 19:46, 30 December 2019 (UTC)

If it helps, it seems to be when there are multiple names in "first" that the problem occurs. For example in this diff [2], "|first=By Carol Cratty|last=CNN|" is successfully changed to "|author=Carol Cratty|" but "|first=By Greg Botelho, Eliott C. McLaughlin and Jason Hanna|last=CNN|" was changed to "|first=By Greg Botelho, Eliott C. McLaughlin and Jason Hanna|". --John B123 (talk) 20:17, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
@John B123: I agree that the problem is that the references have full name(s) in |first= and also |last=CNN. Deleting only |last=CNN doesn't completely solve the problem - it requires a human to determine whether to complete the fix by populating the author(s) into |author= or |first=/|last=. Reverting the bot edits doesn't correct the errors. Your help in fixing the references would be appreciated. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 01:51, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
The problem only seems to occur if there is an "and" separating the authors. Unless this is entirely coincidental, it would suggest there is something in the script that is trying to separate the authors that is not working correctly? As you point out, splitting "author" into "first" and "last" needs to be done manually, but separating multiple authors should be achievable. (In php I would use preg_split with ";" and "\sand\s" as the pattern to build an array of authors, and then a foreach loop to generate author1=, author2= ....).
I don't know if the number of times the problem occurs is large enough to justify changing the script. I'll leave that to you. Either way, I'm happy to help fixing the references. --John B123 (talk) 11:31, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
@John B123: Great! Here's the list of articles to be fixed. Thanks, and happy new year! GoingBatty (talk) 14:11, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
That's quite a list, it may take me some time to work through it! Happy new year to you too. --John B123 (talk) 14:23, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

Mangling citations

not good, we should not be removing the { from the citation. Frietjes (talk) 20:35, 3 January 2020 (UTC)

Not good adding trans-title without title. --John B123 (talk) 21:18, 3 January 2020 (UTC)
@Frietjes: Thank you for pointing out this error. I had an error in my code which AWB's general fixes was correcting, but I think it didn't correct it in The Joiners because reference #31 was already missing a }. I've corrected my code and reference #31. The Joiners article needs a lot more work with the references. Want to work on it together? GoingBatty (talk) 00:20, 4 January 2020 (UTC)
@John B123: Thank you for fixing the reference in Davide Scaramuzza. It took me a moment that to figure out that BattyBot did not edit this article. I made a few manual edits to it as well. GoingBatty (talk) 00:20, 4 January 2020 (UTC)
Apologies, perhaps I should have made it clearer. The error was introduced by the script at User:Frietjes/findargdups not Battybot. I do get frustrated at experienced editors running scripts/tools but not checking the results. Errors left by reFill are probably the most common, particularly inserting deadurl=y rather than url-status=dead. --John B123 (talk) 01:06, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib University

There is private university at Jamalpur in Bangladesh. I created a page named after Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib University. But all informations had been removed. Why? Also this page doesn’t shown in google search. Please solve this problem and retrieve my page including all informations. Kawsar Ahmad Selim (talk) 22:54, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

@Kawsar Ahmad Selim: BattyBot was not the source of the issue on the Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib University article. If you look at the article history, you can see that your edits were reverted due to promotional editing. You then made an edit claiming "Fixed typo" which actually removed maintenance templates. I have readded those templates. If you have any conflict of interest in regards to this university, please disclose it on your talk page. As stated on the top of this page, please edit this page only to stop BattyBot if it is breaking pages. GoingBatty (talk) 01:29, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

Name of bot

Not sure whether you're aware that the bot name could have negative connotations in Jamaican English... AnonMoos (talk) 16:33, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

@AnonMoos: I have no knowledge of Jamaican English or its slurs. My Wikipedia username GoingBatty is a frequently used Batman pun - see this book as an example. I named the bot so it is similar to my username, and I like the alliteration. GoingBatty (talk) 17:05, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
As long as you're aware that many Jamaicans, fans of Jamaican music, and LGBT advocates aware of the situation of LGBT people in Jamaica will immediately assign the bot's name a very different meaning than the one you originally intended.... AnonMoos (talk) 17:39, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
@AnonMoos: I do not support slurs of any kind. I've added clarifications to User:GoingBatty, User:BattyBot, and the box above. GoingBatty (talk) 18:05, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

WPCN

The bot is expanding {{WPCN}} to {{WikiProject Cartoon Network}}, instead of {{WikiProject China}}.[3] Kanguole 20:07, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

@Kanguole: Thank you for letting me know! I will spend some time fixing this before turning this task on again. GoingBatty (talk) 20:10, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
@Kanguole: I fixed the module at User:Magioladitis/WikiProjects and reloaded it into the bot. I looked at the bot's last 200,000 edits (which goes back 5 years) for each page that contained {{WikiProject Cartoon Network}} (about 70 pages), and manually reverted each incorrect bot edit (about 30 pages). I then reran the pages through the bot to ensure it expands {{WPCN}} to {{WikiProject China}}. Thanks again for the report! GoingBatty (talk) 21:09, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing it. Kanguole 21:25, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

DYKs

This bot when it is putting the shells on, is relocating DYK credits to the top rather than the bottom of the collection of projects. Could that be fixed please? The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 15:47, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

@The C of E: My bot uses AutoWikiBrowser's general fixes, which follow Wikipedia:Talk page layout, which states that {{DYK talk}} should be placed above Wikiproject banners. If you have specific examples where my bot makes an edit contrary to the talk page layout guide, please let me know. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 03:26, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

@Bilby: Thanks for stopping the bot! I've ensured all 261 incorrect edits the bot made today have now been reverted. I'll restart the bot and watch it as it reprocesses these pages, to see if there's anything that needs to be fixed. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 14:19, 4 April 2021 (UTC)

Bot edits

Hi GB. Why is your bot making edits like this with AWB, when the rules of use state "Do not make insignificant or inconsequential edits. An edit that has no noticeable effect on the rendered page is generally considered an insignificant edit"? Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 19:16, 9 August 2021 (UTC)

@Lugnuts: Thank you for letting me know about the problem, and for posting here to stop the bot. I have regex rules in place to skip pages that already have some variation of {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and it seems that the bot was ignoring them. I did have multiple instances of AWB open at the same time, so maybe AWB got confused about which pages to skip. I've closed the other instances of AWB, and it seems to be working now. I'll watch it as it runs to ensure it doesn't make insignificant edits. Thanks again! GoingBatty (talk) 19:34, 9 August 2021 (UTC)

@Plastikspork: Thank you for fixing my bot's mistakes. I got a little too ambitious in removing incorrect |last=/|first= parameters, and had already deleted the code that made those mistakes. I copied the old versions of the references into my sandbox and ensured that my bot no longer edits those references. I'll make some manual updates to those two articles. Thanks again, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 18:20, 21 August 2021 (UTC)

Concern regarding Draft:Manathi P Ganesan

Hello, BattyBot. This is a bot-delivered message letting you know that Draft:Manathi P Ganesan, a page you created, has not been edited in at least 5 months. Drafts that have not been edited for six months may be deleted, so if you wish to retain the page, please edit it again or request that it be moved to your userspace.

If the page has already been deleted, you can request it be undeleted so you can continue working on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia. FireflyBot (talk) 02:01, 24 October 2021 (UTC)

@Firefly: My bot does not create drafts. Per Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Missing history?, Anthony Appleyard used Special:MergeHistory to move the rest of the history to User:Mc.balamurugan/sandbox. GoingBatty (talk) 03:12, 24 October 2021 (UTC)

RE: User:Newsguyla/100.9NRG (K265FH-FM)

Hello... I see you recategorized the page I created for a radio station. I admit I'm new to Wikipedia so I'm curious if I did something wrong or what needs to be corrected for the page to appear on wikipedia like other radio station pages from which I modeled the entry.

Thanks in advance for your time educating me.

David Newsguyla (talk) 02:26, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

@Newsguyla Hi there! My bot's edit summary stated "Changed article categories to category links per WP:USERNOCAT". WP:USERNOCAT states "user subpages that are draft versions of articles should be kept out of content categories". If your draft becomes an article, you can change the category links back to article categories. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 02:52, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

Hatnote breakage

GoingBatty, in edit Special:Diff/1141271817 the bot has fixed a CS1 template, but broke template {{hatnote group}}. The article Audi got added to Category:Hatnote templates with errors. —andrybak (talk) 08:23, 24 February 2023 (UTC)

BattyBot made a mess

Please keep BattyBot from making 'edits' to Bibliography of the United States Constitution.-- It made a mess out of this section (scroll down). -- Gwillhickers (talk) 16:54, 4 May 2023 (UTC)

@Gwillhickers: Hi there! I'm sorry BattyBot made a mess of the section, and I'm glad you alerted me to the issue.
BattyBot won't visit an article to fix the Category:CS1 maint: extra punctuation issues if you don't make typos like you did in this edit and this edit. The AutoWikiBrowser general fixes won't make a mess if you don't make typos like you did in this edit.
You can also fix the mistakes you made in this edit and this edit. Thanks, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 01:15, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
If a simple typo caused the bot to go hay-wire, I just as soon as let us editors tend to matters. Did you actually look at what "BattyBot" did to the section in question? I make efforts to get the mark-up straight, but when dealing with dozens of complicated templates in one session this sort of thing can happen, us editors being human and all. I suggest you have someone look into what makes BattyBot click, or not click, and fix its glitches so it doesn't make a train wreck out of the markup because of a simple typo, the likes of which I could not determine from the diffs you sent. Also, after BattyBot does its routine on an article you should inspect it, so other editors don't have to clean up any mess made, as another editor had to do. Appreciate your efforts. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 02:17, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
@Gwillhickers: Yes, I actually looked at what my bot did before my initial response. I have opened a bug report for the AWB developers, as you requested.
I'm inferring from your response that you could not determine the issues in the diffs, so I'll provide more details in chronological order:
  1. In this edit, you added |title=Freedom of the press {reprint) which has unbalanced braces.
  2. In this edit, you added |location=New York: and the superfluous colon added the article to Category:CS1 maint: extra punctuation
  3. In this edit, you added |editor=Lalor, John J., A.M. which added the article to Category:CS1 maint: multiple names: editors list. Should you be using |editor1= and |editor2= instead? Please fix this in each reference where it occurs.
  4. In this edit, BattyBot fixed #2 but the AWB general fixes made a mess trying to fix #1
  5. In this edit, you added |editor-link=Paul Leicester. It seems the link should go to Paul Leicester Ford instead, but you've masked out the author. Should Ford be listed as an author or editor? Do you want to see the link or not? Please fix this.
  6. In this edit, you added |first=William A; and the superfluous semicolon added the article to Category:CS1 maint: extra punctuation
  7. In this edit, I manually fixed #6, as BattyBot intentionally doesn't remove all semicolons
  8. In this edit, I manually fixed a few more unbalanced braces/parentheses.
I have reviewed all of BattyBot's edits to this article, and the rest are correct.
If you haven't done so already, I suggest you follow the instructions at Category:CS1 maint: extra punctuation to display the hidden maintenance messages, so you can see them when previewing your edits and fix your typos before you hit the "Publish changes" button. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by GoingBatty (talkcontribs) 17:07, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
No worries. I've no issues with having my screw-ups fixed, so long as we don't burn the church down to get a few mice. :-) Thanks for looking into matters. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 17:10, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
@Gwillhickers: The bot will never "burn the church down" as long as we can click "undo". After making the manual changes, I ran the article through AWB manually (without saving), and confirmed that AWB general fixes no longer make a mess. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 18:23, 8 May 2023 (UTC)

Broken formatting on MDMA

Hi, you moved the {{hatgrp}} on MDMA, which broke the formatting. — W.andrea (talk) 14:07, 21 August 2023 (UTC)

bot needs some work

See this edit wherein the bot removed the obviously bogus |last1=Magazine|first1=Smithsonian but did not renumber |last2=Nalewicki|first2=Jennifer which causes the rendered citation to show an error.

@Trappist the monk: I have added a rule to the bot to properly change the |last2=/|first2= to |last1=/|first1=, and fixed all the errors my bot made over the last 2 days. I am restarting the bot now. Thank you again for reporting this issue! GoingBatty (talk) 14:29, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

bot blanking pages without edit summary?

Australian Dictionary of Biography task removing extra content

Hi @GoingBatty, I hope this is enough of a "breaking pages" issue to use this talk page. I've noticed the Australian Dictionary of Biography task deleting extra content from pages in several cases, including [7], [8], and [9] (there might be more that I haven't noticed). :Jay8g [VTE] 08:02, 18 December 2023 (UTC)

@Jay8g:   Fixed - thank you for reporting this! GoingBatty (talk) 14:28, 18 December 2023 (UTC)
Hi @GoingBatty, I went through and spot-checked the rest of the edits (mostly ones with suspiciously large removals), and reverted a bunch more that removed unrelated content. Might be good to go through the edits more thoroughly at some point since I might have missed some more of them. :Jay8g [VTE] 17:43, 18 December 2023 (UTC)
