Questions edit

How do you make those formatting/styling changes so quickly?
Most of the time, I use regular expressions to perform a replacement across either the entire page, or just a section.

need for a reference edit

The reference to William Wragg being 'gay' appears on the same page under ref 31.

https://twitter.com/William_Wragg/status/669302083493961733

I didn't see the point of repeating it but if you think a ref is needed here, pse add it. 213.78.162.233 (talk) 11:46, 6 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for bringing this to my attention; I've updated the reference to a more reliable one, but I don't see a need to include it in the lead section, as it's only meant to summarize the article. Rusty4321 talk contribs 14:18, 6 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from Emmanuel Mubiru Smith (23:36, 14 April 2024) edit

Hey am here I am kinda a celebrity in my home town but google don’t show it so I wanted to rite about my self am a young footballer can u help --Emmanuel Mubiru Smith (talk) 23:36, 14 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Emmanuel Mubiru Smith: I'm sorry, but our policies say that people can't write about themselves. If you want to be on Google, try getting your social media accounts higher on the results (search for example "how to increase search engine ranking" and you could find some information). Question from Frizit1976 (09:40, 15 April 2024) edit

Hello I want to write article about my self --Frizit1976 (talk) 09:40, 15 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Frizit1976: No, sorry, this is generally not possible on Wikipedia, because it would be hard neutrally, also, most average people don’t pass our notability guideline WP:GNG. You’d be better off getting on the news or something, then someone else would write your article instead.
May I ask, what are you known for? This could help me determine if you could have an article. Rusty4321 talk contribs 14:55, 15 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

How to add my profile pitcher --Raj Poudel Actor (talk) 01:06, 16 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Raj Poudel Actor: We do not have profile pictures on Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not social media. Please don't even think about writing an article about yourself, that is not allowed here. Rusty4321 talk contribs 01:07, 16 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from Mohammed Omar (Re-Searcher) (18:43, 22 April 2024) edit

Hello, My question how to add links jn text --Mohammed Omar (Re-Searcher) (talk) 18:43, 22 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Mohammed Omar (Re-Searcher): Hello Mohammed and welcome to Wikipedia! If you are using the Source Editor, you can type article name to link an article. For example Help:Introduction which gives Help:Introduction.
If you want to make the text of the link different from the article name, you can use this syntax: link text. For example, the main page of Wikipedia produces: the main page of Wikipedia.
Happy editing, and do not hesitate to ask further if you have questions. Rusty4321 talk contribs 19:55, 22 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from AllCass (18:26, 25 April 2024) edit

Hi Rusty, nice to meet you! I've newly joined the Wikipedia editing world and accidentally made a mistake. While publishing some changes on an article, I accidentally clicked on a citation which appeared to have created an extra, empty citation as part of the 'Notes' list. It shows up on the page as "Cite error: The named reference noteStockard2 was invoked but never defined (see the help page)." In the editing portion, it appears as "This reference is defined in a template or other generated block, and for now can only be previewed in source mode". I've tried looking for it on the source page but have had no luck locating it. Please help me, I'm completely lost on this! --AllCass (talk) 18:26, 25 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

@AllCass: Hi there! Welcome to Wikipedia!
Once you've switched to "Source editing" through the pencil icon on the top left, try searching for the reference name "noteStockard2" in the source page. (Your browser might offer a "find" option.) Looking at your edit, it seems that you've accidentally changed the citation that is being used from "noteStockard" to "noteStockard2". Since "noteStockard2" doesn't have any content, it produces the error. Just change the name of the citation from "noteStockard2" back to "noteStockard" and it should work without an error.
Feel free to ask if you have further questions. Rusty4321 talk contribs 20:17, 25 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Found it using ctrl+f and it worked! The error is no longer there. Thank you so much for helping me to resolve this Rusty, I appreciate it! AllCass (talk) 08:00, 26 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from AllCass (08:47, 3 May 2024) edit

Hi again Rusty! Sometimes, when I use the automatic citation feature for a weblink, I get something like this:

"Fields, Christopher; Staff, WLBT com (2022-01-22). "Capri Movie Theatre to show first film in decades". https://www.wlbt.com. Retrieved 2024-05-03. cite web: Empty citation (help): External link in |website= (help)".

At this point, I usually manually input the citation instead to get rid of the cite web: Empty citation (help) portion. I've read the help page on it and still don't quite understand what is causing it to appear that way. I was wondering if you could help explain why some citations pull up that way! --AllCass (talk) 08:47, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@AllCass: Hello again! To solve this, you can click on the citation in the text, click on "edit," click the text, click "edit" again, and make sure that there isn't a website name in "name of website." (there might be a faster way to do this, but I might not be aware of it.) Rusty4321 talk contribs 23:34, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
