Happy Labor Day!

Dear colleague, I just want to wish you a happy, hopefully, extended holiday weekend and nice end to summer! Your friend, --A NobodyMy talk 03:08, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Well, I'm not in America so no Labor Day (and no extended weekend, sadly) for me! Thanks anyway.--Atlan (talk) 08:27, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Wheelchair terminology

Hi Atlan, actually "wheelchair-bound" is considered negative and offensive. It is similar to saying someone is "confined to a wheelchair". It implies that the wheelchair user never leaves the chair and that the chair is a burden rather than simply being a tool or a vehicle used to get around, one that frees rather than binds or confines people with disabilities. Just as you would not say "Lexus bound" or "sadly confined to a bicycle" or "unfortunately suffering from being born female", it is good journalistic practice to avoid unnecessarily negative connotations. Citations:

Could you please un-revert the numerous changes you made to the efforts to fix this terminology? Thanks! --Lizzard (talk) 23:04, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Basically, what User:Geeklizzard said. A wheelchair isn't a confinement, it's a tool that gives the user more freedom. Without a wheelchair, a person might be unable to move on their own, or unable to leave their home. With it, they can go lots of places, and do many things. Also, some wheelchair users have the alternative of moving, slowly and/or painfully, with crutches, or much more easily with a wheelchair. Thus, even aside from the negative connotations, they are wheelchair users but can manage, perhaps only for short distances, without the wheelchair. It's like referring to someone as "glasses-bound" rather than recognizing that with glasses, they can see as well as most other people, and without them can see very little. Thank you both for your responses. I informed myself on wheelchair terminology before I made those edits to the articles, which included reading those etiquette pages. 2 reasons I went ahead with the edits:
  1. I figured those etiquette guides are to be used when addressing a wheelchair user. We do not address anyone in our articles here. That's not say we can be purposely insensitive, of course.
  2. Wheelchair-bound appears to be accepted as common usage. I found a great many articles and news stories (from reputable news outlets) on the internet that use the term wheelchair-bound, while wheelchair-using or wheelchair using was non-existent. Note that I specifically refer to "wheelchair-using". I've left all instances of "wheelchair user" intact, as that is indeed common usage.
Now, I believe our WP:MOS mandates that the preferred term (absent any naming disputes) is whatever the group in question refers itself to (hence, wheelchair users). I still have issues with "wheelchair using" as explained above, so I won't be reverting those back right now. I am willing to rewrite those instances to at least not say wheelchair-bound though. Of course, I'm open to suggestions.--Atlan (talk) 09:31, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
Also, see this. It confuses me that someone in a wheelchair would call himself wheelchair bound. Are opinions among wheelchair users divided as to how they should be referred to?--Atlan (talk) 15:03, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

Mythdon

No worries at all - when admins err, as I did there, we should be called on it. Steve Smith (talk) 22:16, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

Well, no harm done. As far as mistakes go, this wasn't a big deal. See you around.--Atlan (talk) 22:23, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

Happy Halloween!

As Halloween is my favorite holiday, I just wanted to wish those Wikipedians who have been nice enough to give me a barnstar or smile at me, supportive enough to agree with me, etc., a Happy Halloween! Sincerely, --A NobodyMy talk 01:19, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Do something useful

Why don't you do something useful instead of accusing innocent people of doing nefarious things? I was making a change to my own edit, and when I went to save it, there was an edit conflict. I tried, unsuccessfully, to fix my edit by copying and pasting my new edit over my old edit, and in the process, mistakenly messed up the whole section. My efforts to fix the mess only resulted in a further mess. Fortunately someone rescued the section.

Go take a hike; it's been shown that people who exercise are less paranoid. --Sift&Winnow 22:18, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Yes, the someone that "fortunately rescued" the section as you say, was me. Next time, I guess I'll exercise before fixing any of your fuck-ups. I wasn't referring to that though. In this edit, you undeniably changed the word "not" into "now". No edit conflict could possibly cause that, as that was not your comment to edit.
Whatever. Your bad temper and fondness for exercise is noted. --Atlan (talk) 22:30, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Again, that was an accident, - I thought I was changing something I wrote. No need for obscenities. Thanks for the help with the fix. --Sift&Winnow 22:37, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Okay, that's not what you said the first time, but it's definitely a more acceptable and plausible explanation. Happy editing, and don't let stuff rile you up so quickly.--Atlan (talk) 23:25, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Senior editors (humor)

Re: "We have senior editors? When do I become one?"

I know you were joking, but there is such a thing.

When you get to 4 years and 24K edits, you too can be a senior editor. For what it's worth, most people care more about quality than quantity or tenure. I gather people - present company included - would rather build an encyclopedia than pin a medal on their chest. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 21:32, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Heh, yeah I was kidding, but it was a genuine question at the same time. I am aware of those service awards, but I don't think that Schrandit was when he referred to Paularblaster as a senior editor. Always interesting to learn what someone perceives as "seniority" here on Wikipedia.
But damn! I've been here well over 7 years, but I still don't get to be senior! Better go start numbing my senses and do some RC patrol! ;-) --Atlan (talk) 22:07, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Regarding Kurt

For what it's worth, I wasn't trying to turn it into a "Kurt bashing session", I was just responding to somebody who didn't know about him. I wasn't planning on commenting further. Killiondude (talk) 20:59, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

I know. My comment wasn't directed at you personally. These situations tend to degrade into petty mudslinging real fast though. I was just trying to prevent that from happening.--Atlan (talk) 21:02, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

About my edit karai

I have sen all the TMNT series Because Lotus Blossom & Karai both were chosen by Shredder & they both have respect for Leonardo. I got the sources because I have worked with compagnies such as comic & TV series. With all respect don't change my edits( not personal opinion ok Dude).--Hasbro sp (talk) 11:23,2 december 2009 (UTC)

Ah yes, the old "I worked there so that trumps all your sources". I'll take that as you having no valid counter-argument, so we're done.--Atlan (talk) 11:54, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

We're not done because son I older than you in this major, I don't need to give any proof so please don't argument with me ok man & get a life other this.--Hasbro sp (talk) 11:23,2 december 2009 (UTC)

Please don't post here anymore. Your arguments are an insult to my intelligence. You have the conversational skills of a child, so I doubt you're older than me, not that it matters. Go watch cartoons or something.--Atlan (talk) 23:05, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

.Well you have a stupid intelligence and we aren't getting along about this subject & my conversational skills aren't of a child please respect yourself man ok. fuck off & go do something useful other then this edits about karai.--Hasbro sp (talk) 11:23,4 december 2009 (UTC)

Arbcom

I put my request after the first heading as told to by the instructions. I would appreciate it if you could post my words again for arbcom consideration. Thank you.Kevin McCready (talk) 11:53, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately the instructions make no sense to me. I have no idea what the "first header" refers to. Despite clicking on the edit button I get taken to the same page as before. I would be very grateful if you could place the following for me "I request that my topic ban be lifted. My argument is that since the ban I have made good contributions to wikipedia and the community which are reflected, for example, on my talkpage."—Preceding unsigned comment added by Mccready (talkcontribs)
