User:Ijanderson977/sandbox4 Ijanderson977 19:15, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

I will try write a leadin for it tomorrow and help start adding channels.--Andrewcrawford (talk) 20:14, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
Good good. Please feel free to edit my sandbox before we create the page/ article Ijanderson977 (talk) 18:04, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Also i suggest we call it List of free to air channels in the UK as its different in ROI, as RTE and Channel 6 are FTA, but BBC and ITV isn't. We could also create List of free to air channels in the Republic of Ireland after. Ijanderson977 (talk) 18:19, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Well that something i never knew so yeah that probally be best.--Andrewcrawford (talk) 18:23, 26 July 2008 (UTC) i say worry about the article name once we havea page that good enough not to be delted.
I'll add the rest of Entertainment channels, but you will have to add the frequency's as i don't know them. Ijanderson977 (talk) 12:41, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
have a look now Ijanderson977 (talk) 12:51, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
Yeah it is looking quite good now i will try and get all the frequencies added later going out for a while, if you can get radio channel added the same that will be good. not all the chnanel are on astra 4d some are on eurobird but i will correct that as i go through it--Andrewcrawford (talk) 14:49, 27 July 2008 (UTC) there is still some sectiosn missing lieks kids.
Cheers. I will try and add the rest this evening Ijanderson977 (talk) 14:58, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
could you link me to the frequencies please? Ijanderson977 (talk) 21:46, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
I can probably complete it either tomorrow eve/ night or on Sunday. Ijanderson977 (talk) 17:36, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
Also its looking a lot better now ;) Ijanderson977 (talk) 17:37, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
Cool i have added all other free to air chanensl that is list on sky page unfortnally sky page doesnt say what radio channesl are free to air but i have a list of them i will try get the rest of the frequncies i can added asap.--Andrewcrawford (talk) 17:40, 31 July 2008 (UTC) Thanks i have done alot of work today to get it up to standard
Just to let you know, ive added the radio stations. I think we can create the page now. We need to choose the appropriate title. How about List of free to air channels available in the UK? Ijanderson977 (talk) 15:56, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
\i will get back to oyu about the title of the page later tonight i think it best to create it form the freesat page use main article. im busy until 9pm tonight so when i am free i will think it up as i say i think the irish channels can be added as well so might be better with uk & ireland--Andrewcrawford (talk) 16:27, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
We can't include ROI because not all channels are FTA there, such as BBC and ITV channels are not FTA. Also RTE channels are not FTA in the UK. Also today i created List of HD channels in the UK, feel free to improve. Ijanderson977 (talk) 17:36, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
Good point weirdly i know someone who been able to pick up rte in the uk but i take your point on it give ea minute and ill make the article
Yes you can receive RTE stations in the UK with a bigger sat dish, but most British Sat receivers are programmed not to pick up RTE and co, but to pick up BBC and ITV. Vice versa in ROI. However there are ways getting around this. Well you create the article for now. Im going away to the Netherlands until Saturday, so you create/ finish it and i'll check it out when im back. Then we can make a slightly different ROI version of the article. Cya later Ijanderson977 (talk) 09:26, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
article is created check list of freesat page an then look at free to air channels--Andrewcrawford (talk) 11:31, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
cool, article is good ;) Ijanderson977 (talk) 13:15, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Freesat

Quite simply, such a link has no place in an encyclopaedic article. Wikipedia is not a directory, is not a 'how-to' guide or a manual and is not a indiscriminate list if links. DrFrench (talk) 19:35, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

I think you missed the point

The point I was trying to make on time team was that you have fun making changes that you want. It really doesn't bother me that much how bad the page looks, I have better things to worry about in my life. I just need to use the thing to find out what episodes I'm watching online through 'guba', and there's no way it's usable in it's current form.

I realise I came off as rude. It wasn't intentional, just kind of sucks tidying something up and having someone undo it. Kind of makes you wonder why you should bother at all. So you have my apology. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Modeset (talkcontribs) 00:10, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Until the article is properly referenced, it is full of unverified claims and as such the template should stay.

Unless reliable sources are presented, it is an unverifiable claim, which is against the core policies of wikipedia. Please read WP:RS, WP:V, and WP:OR, as they are relevant to this issue. - DigitalC (talk) 11:14, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

why did you add this?

Why did you add "There is currently ?? Channels available from freesat, there is ?? free to air channels that currently isn't on freesat and can be tuned manually." to List of channels on freesat. (See here). This is not presented as encyclopedic information. Ijanderson977 (talk) 16:56, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

I said it was possible vandalism, because your edit was written in a non-encyclopedic way with question marks everywhere. Also them other free-to-air channels, which are not on the Freesat EPG are channels on the Freesat from Sky EPG. The reason why Freesat boxes can pick up freesat from sky channels is because freesat boxes are satellite receivers, so can pick up any free-to-air channels. But its auto programmed to find Freesat EPG channels, thats why manually you can get non Freesat EPG channels. This is same with a Sky box, you can get Freesat (BBC/ITV) channels the same way. Ijanderson977 (talk) 18:14, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
freesat from sky alreay has them listed as the sky box so you dnt need to manual add them unless it isa channels not on sky at all--Andrewcrawford (talk) 18:17, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

freesat

As I noted in my edit summary, the company's legal name is 'Freesat (UK) Limited'. Your point that 'and i take it you dnt know people just general capatise for websites?' doesn't make sense. If you think that the company_name field in the infobox actually means company_name_as_spelt_in_the_logo, then that's fine, but at least be consistent about the usage. DrFrench (talk) 20:01, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

You pointed out that the website said it, i can create a website and make it say whatever i want most peopel capatisle website when designing it just common pratice. i never made the page i was only changing the information back because the consuse went with freesat the logo name and the freesat page uses it as well.--Andrewcrawford (talk) 20:17, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

List of channels on Freesat

Hi, in this edit summary you said "please test link before reverting". I did. That's exactly why I reverted it. You changed the link so it directed people to the wrong article, I reverted it back so it went to the correct target article. So please heed your own advice and check the target of a link is the correct one before changing it. Thank you. DrFrench (talk) 19:54, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

It's got nothing to do with the British TV Portal. And I didn't direct anything anywhere. It's quite simple, you edited List of channels on Freesat and changed a link from Gaelic Digital Service to BBC Alba – which is a completely different article. Because you made the link go to the wrong article, I reverted your change – so that the link pointed to the correct article. The problem is becasue in your edit summary you wrote "please test link before reverting", which I did – it's why I did the revert! If you had tested it properly in the first place, then there would not have been a problem. DrFrench (talk) 21:23, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Dinosaur King not dubbed by 4kids

Several weeks ago, I made an edit on the Shaman King article, taking away the Dinosaur King reference to how it's also located in Japan. As I stated before, it's dubbed by Shout! Factory, not 4kids, though it appears on 4kids TV. I found this out of the Dinosaur King article where it says...

"Shout! Factory has licensed the anime and distributes the US English adaptation. The anime was launched under the name Dinosaur King on September 8, 2007 on 4Kids TV.

Unlike most anime on 4Kids TV, the English version of the show is not dubbed by 4Kids Entertainment and is fairly faithful to the Japanese version. The English script follows the Japanese script closely, although occasionally a joke will have its meaning changed. While the D-Team's country of origin is not explicitly specified, Shout! Factory has left in elements that identify it as being Japan, as in the original: maps and city names, Japanese cuisine, and text remain, for the most part, unchanged. Despite this, characters all use Sega's official English names. An original soundtrack has been created, although Shout! Factory occasionally uses some of the original Japanese music.

As with 4Kids localizations, the show has been censored to allow for US sensibilities and to allow it to be screened for an audience demographic of 6-11. Edits include the airbrushing or removal of scenes containing violence and even coughing or exhalation of smoke, edits to lessen the emotional impact of scenes, and the censoring of nudity. Example's include the airbrushing of Ursula's fan service in the episode "Alpha Bets it All". The show was also cropped from widescreen to fullscreen."

I also disliked how you mocked me by saying "next you will say yugioh is dubbed by funimation becaus ethey release the dvds."

FUNimation only released the uncensored DVD's, but they got into it over rights to the show. The normal DVD's are sold by Viz Media. --Ryu-chan (Talk | Contributions) 12:26, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Seems like both articles contradict with eachother. And on the Yu-Gi-Oh! article, it says...

"A separate "uncut" DVD release was commissioned between 4Kids Entertainment and FUNimation, with a new adaptation that is more consistent with the original. The uncut DVDs were pulled from solicitation after Volume 3 "Stolen - Blue-Eyes White Dragon" for no apparent reason, with a variety of explanations including legal issues and poor sales, with limited elaboration. Lance Heiskell, a FUNimation representative, has noted legal rights as the reason for cancellation, although he was unable to expand on it."

I can't find any proof on Viz saling the DVD's, but I can garentee you FUNimation doesn't. --Ryu-chan (Talk | Contributions) 12:41, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

You're talking like FUNimation still sales uncut DVD's. They've stopped selling them because of their disagreement with 4kids. It's here. 4kids probably distrubutes it or something because here, it's clearly says Unlike most anime on 4Kids TV, the English version of the show is not dubbed by 4Kids Entertainment and is fairly faithful to the Japanese version.. Read it yourself if you'd like. You're the one who doesn't know what you're talking about. You said you wanted proof, well there you have it. Want more? --Ryu-chan (Talk | Contributions) 12:56, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Basically the point I'm trying to make is the Dinosaur King article says otherwise. --Ryu-chan (Talk | Contributions) 13:02, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Concerns about your use of rollback

I just looked through your recent article contributions to get a better idea of what you were talking about in your help desk question. While I was there, I noticed that you seem to be using rollback as a tool in content disputes ([1]) or for reverting what appear to be good faith edits ([2], [3], [4]). Rollback is only supposed to be used for reverting obvious vandalism, and should not be used in a content dispute of any sort. This is because using rollback with the default summary to revert an edit gives no reason for the revert, and can send the message to the person being reverted that you think their edit is no better than vandalism.

Could you please use rollback only on obvious vandalism and revert using a different method (such as undo or manual reversion) when reverting anything else? You might also find it useful to install a JavaScript tool such as User:Pyrospirit/rollbacksummary.js that allows you to override the default summary for a rollback; rollback with a custom summary is no different than an ordinary revert marked as minor. Pyrospirit (talk · contribs) 23:33, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Remember that verifiability, not truth is what matters in articles, so you still should provide a summary if you revert an edit that introduces incorrect information (except in cases with nonsense or other obvious vandalism). Even if it seems obvious to you that the information is wrong, someone unfamiliar with the topic sees nothing more than an unexplained revert if there is no edit summary. Also, though it may be time consuming to manually revert 7 out of 9 edits, the quality of the article is what matters most, and those 2 good edits should be retained in the article; rollback doesn't allow for that.
When you do use rollback, as I mentioned above, you can install a script that lets you use a summary other than the default. To install the script, edit the page at Special:MyPage/monobook.js and add the following line to it:
importScript('User:Pyrospirit/rollbacksummary.js');
Then save the page and bypass your cache. After that, there will be a [revert] link next to every rollback link. When you click a revert link, a prompt for the summary will pop up, which will replace the default summary. You can use $u for the username of the person you're reverting and $rv to add something like "Reverted edits by Example" (with the person's username) to the summary. Pyrospirit (talk · contribs) 19:36, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Users can remove messages from their own user talk page if they want, though it's generally polite to reply first. As long as that user doesn't continue changing information without discussion, there's not really a problem with removing that message. By the way, it would probably be a lot easier to make sure that incorrect facts aren't added into the article if you (or someone else) added sources for the information; as things currently stand, there's no way for a reader to determine whether most of the information on the page is true or not without doing separate research on the topic. Pyrospirit (talk · contribs) 19:51, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
It is on my to do list but i have got a lot of studies on just now, i just recently done the up most of the main article of the list ie galactik football and source it mostly now, but i get your point, but it seems that some people will jsut add stuff regardless just cause it there dream or something--Andrewcrawford (talk) 20:36, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Yes, the edit 82.5.130.14 made that you reverted would be considered vandalism. An unexplained removal of a large part of an article is one of the most common forms of vandalism. The page Wikipedia:Vandalism explains it pretty clearly, so just look back at that if you're unsure. Pyrospirit (talk · contribs) 21:14, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Source problems

No source anywhere states that Klasky-Csupo (defunct for last few years) has anything to do with the new (or any) X-men projects. List of free-to-air channels in the UK

In references the links to the sites for number of FTA channels on Astra and Eurobird are the wrong way round. I don't know how to fix them - can you help? TheOneOnTheLeft (talk) 10:09, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Sorry about the confusion but it's totally my fault. What I meant to say is that the link "Channels names on Astra 2A-2D" links to the list of Eurobird channels and the link "Channels names on Eurobird 1" goes to a list of Astra channels. Also, maybe "Channels names" should be "Channel names" TheOneOnTheLeft (talk) 12:52, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Changed? No, it's still wrong. "Channels names on Astra 2A-2D" still links to Eurobird list! TheOneOnTheLeft (talk) 13:08, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Your subpage User:Andrewcrawford/backup2 is currently in the category Category:Lists of anime television series episodes; per WP:CAT#User namespace, please disable or remove any categories linked without a preceding colon. —tan³ tx 13:45, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

It looks like you copied that page from a version of a Yu-Gi-Oh! GX page; when you did so, you also copied category links as-is. There is no way for MediaWiki to tell that categories should not accept pages from certain places, so a page you are using as a backup (from what I can see from the name) is being put into a category when it shouldn't be. Removing all the links from your personal page that start with "[[Category:" (use the find function of your browser or a text editor) will be sufficient; please also do this in the future if you copy an article to a page in your user space. —tan³ tx 15:01, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Computer Science Boolean Operation

Hello. I am here to request discussion of a reorganization I feel is needed, and since you have such a big voice, I shall discuss it with you (and you're also part of WikiProject: Computing). When I typed in "Boolean operators" into the search, I got logical connective with a small section at the bottom concerning application to computers. What I was trying to find was the web search query use of boolean operators (and the symbols therein) for homework, but could not find any information. Puzzled and a bit concerned, I added another article for Boolean Operators. I asked for help for expansion. When I went back to it, my article was evaluated and deleted by a single user in less than 5 days. Having talked to him, he says, I quote: "Wikipedia has the same level of information - just broken down across several articles."

Someone suggested my deleted article be placed under "web search query" (which isn't under the computing project). After looking around, I believe that the article web search query, the sections for computer application under the articles logical connective, Boolean logic, Boolean function, Boolean Domain, and probably several others could be merged into one topic.

I am requesting a hearing for creating a new topic under WP:Computing. Compiling, organizing, and referencing this isn't going to be a little task: its going to be a sub-project that will require experts and direction. If I post anything in the discussion page of WP:Computing, its going to be overlooked and passed over. I will probably contact other dedicated and knowledgable users about this. Perhaps you could point me some others? Colonel Marksman (talk) 09:15, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

List of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition episodes

What's important in this article are the links to the cities where the families live. There doesn't need to be a separate link to the state as well. If anyone wants to know about the state a city is in, they can use the link in the article about the city. The state links just clutter the article with links that no-one will ever use - and a link that no-one uses is valueless and should be removed. Colonies Chris (talk) 14:22, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

I corrected Middleton, Idaho to Middleton, Idaho and Mobile, Alabama to Mobile, Alabama and you've reverted those changes. And why have you linked the dates again? I removed the linking for autoformatting as stated in the Manual of Style - see WP:DATE#Linking and autoformatting of dates, as it's now deprecated. Colonies Chris (talk) 18:25, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
I don't particularly care whether it's "location, state" or "location, state", except that in my opinion the second method is more complicated without any compensating benefit. But I do care about links such as Mobile, Alabama which are just plain wrong and need to be fixed. Colonies Chris (talk) 19:26, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of How Do They Do It? UK

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article How Do They Do It? UK, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Split from main article without consensus - no need for two articles, and the title of this poor split is incorrect per WP:MoS

Reply about lists

(I'm duplicating this here in case you don't see it on my userpage.)

Hi Andrew,

That's a good question. Lists don't require ratings like stub, C, GA, etc., but they are able to become Featured. I recommend looking at the criteria for Featured Lists, which you can find here. Here are some lists that have been featured. You want your lists to be reviewed like I reviewed the article, right? The candidates go here for reviewing--but remember, this is for Featured lists, so make sure the list meets those criteria in that first link. If you think you need a bit more feedback from other users before you make the list a candidate, try the peer review.

Okay, I hope that helps! Please let me know if there's anything else I can do. :) Merpin (talk) 21:22, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Reply to your request about episodes 3 and 4.

Hi, I'm sorry if you are upset about this but the episodes aired on Jetix in UK weeks ago. That is why I supplied the new titles and changed the episodes around so that the plot makes sense. I won't be posting any more changes as it seems that you are unaware of when the episodes aired. I am not in the habit of changing anybody's work unless I have checked my facts. I documented all changes made and I have no wish to have any disagreements with anyone over a list. Yours sincerely David Soutar David.soutar12 (talk) 18:27, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Phorm

Hi

I reverted the addition of the section on UID not because it failed policy, per se, but rather because I could not see the direct relevance to the Phorm article - the IP seemed to be "synthesising-by-implication" that UIDs are "bad", and, of course, the phrase anonymous Profiling involving a [UID] "is not possible" when Personal Information is Involved is uncited and gives undue weight to criticism. I understand that Phorm uses UIDs, I just don't feel that the article is the correct place to go off on a tangent about how UIDs work. I saw it as similar to the bicycle article detailing motion - UIDs are too specific for an article about a high-level implementation. I'm also concerned that this section - even after your most recent edit - appears to represent a point of view - I couldn't see how I could reinstate a neutral point of view without removing the section. Indeed, I still feel that this section is entirely inappropriate.

Phorm is a topic which attracts points of view. I've previously provided a third opinion in which I counselled largely against a Phorm employee who wished to add partisan (in my view) quotes. I am concerned that this most recent addition seems to be partisan in the oppsite direction - i.e. against Phorm. Neither direction are acceptable, and the article should - like all Wikipedia articles - strive for a neutral point of view which does not give undue weight.

Hi - thanks for replying so quickly! Your edit certainly made it less partisan - removing the "scary" exclamation marks, etc. I'm tempted to leave the section in for the time being to get some more eyes on it, and maybe remove it or alter it after a few days? The more I think about it, the more I think there may be some justification for an explanation of UIDs - but without the dramatic presumption of Phorm's guilt ;-) Incidentally, when I gave my third opinion I was outside the UK and knew nothing about Phorm; since then I've arrived back in the UK and very definitely formed a negative opinion on them - so it's not that I'm biased for them, merely that I'm mindful of WP:NPOV. Thanks again, This flag once was redpropagandadeeds 15:44, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Temporary injunction and your use of my monobook script

Hi Andrew,

I am pleased to see that you have included my monobook script for delinking dates in your monobook. I hope you've found it useful.

ArbCom has announced a temporary injunction against the "mass delinking of dates". You can still delink dates on an occasional basis. However, you may wish to be cautious and use the script only for its non-date functions until the issue is resolved by an RFC poll. You may wish to express your view on autoformatting and date linking in the RFC at: Wikipedia:Date_formatting_and_linking_poll.

Regards Lightmouse (talk) 22:21, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

How to use the script

Here is how to use the script:

 • Put an article into edit mode. The script only works in edit mode.
 • Look at the lower left of the page in the 'toolbox' and you will see some blue text that says 'What links here'. Below that will be some blue text options that say 'Delink dates to dmy' and 'Delink dates to mdy'. Click on one of those options.
 • Save the page as normal.

Let me know how you get on. Your vote really would be welcome. Regards Lightmouse (talk) 16:22, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Regarding edits in List of Time Team Episodes

On March 8th, you rolled back my edits (IP 213.112.228.35), with the comment "IP users has been mucking things about and put in false information". I spent quite some time checking up that information, and it was taken from the Channel 4 web site, so why you would call it "false" I have no idea.

As a result of your rollback, there is now no entry for the "Mystery of Mine Howe" episode, and "Episode 9" of Series 8 (2001) has reverted to being a duplicate of "The Bone Caves" in Specials (2001). What was the point of this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.112.233.211 (talk) 19:40, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Firstly you broke the episode list table, secondly the episode was there at one point so i thought that you where just messing around adding again, this i apogolise for as it is not there, however the the guide itself will no doubt be goign through a major revamp as the way it is jsut now is very untidy and hard to read. Again i apogolise for undoing that as i thought you where messing around but there where a few other things that where just not required.--Andrewcrawford (talk) 20:17, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
All right, sorry if I broke the table (I didn't notice doing that). I'll leave it to you then to put that information back again the way you think it ought to be. Thanks for the reply. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.112.233.211 (talk) 18:34, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
