September 2020 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Toots Hibbert has been reverted.
Your edit here to Toots Hibbert was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1QDdPxlqjU) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. If the external link you inserted or changed was to a media file (e.g. music or video) on an external server, then note that linking to such files may be subject to Wikipedia's copyright policy, as well as other parts of our external links guideline. If the information you linked to is indeed in violation of copyright, then such information should not be linked to. Please consider using our upload facility to upload a suitable media file, or consider linking to the original.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. February 2021 edit

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Howard Stern. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it.
Your edit here to Howard Stern was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links in references which are discouraged per our reliable sources guideline. April 2021 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions, but in one of your recent edits to Maria Hinojosa, it appears that you have added original research, which is against Wikipedia's policies. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. Thank you. Cassiopeia(talk) 05:23, 17 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. I am glad to see that you are discussing a topic. However, as a general rule, talk pages (including user talk pages) such as Talk:George Floyd are for discussion related to improving (a) an encyclopedia article in specific ways based on reliable sources or (b) project policies and guidelines. They are not for general discussion about the article topic or unrelated topics, or statements based on your thoughts or feelings. If you have specific questions about certain topics, consider visiting our reference desk and asking them there instead of on article talk pages. Please cite reliable sources when making claims about people.Bagumba (talk) 13:20, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

I replied to your comment on Pietro Aretino's talk page. I don't know whether placing an @ sign before my comment caused you to receive an email. Maurice Magnus (talk) 17:48, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

I emailed Xavier Salomon: As a scholar of both Veronese and Aretino, you may be uniquely qualified to comment on the following. In a documentary video, Peter Greenaway states that Aretino is portrayed in Veronese’s The Marriage of Cana and that Aretino might be said to have been Veronese’s “scriptwriter” for the painting, since Veronese closely followed Aretino’s text. (He doesn’t say what text.) The video is at Peter Greenaway. The Marriage. on Vimeo. He discusses Aretino from 9:18 to 10:29 and from 18:40 to 18:45. Is Greenaway right? If so, I’ll add it to Aretino’s Wikipedia entry.

Salomon replied: I think Greenaway is wrong on both counts. I don’t think Aretino had anything to do with Veronese’s Marriage at Cana, and he does not appear in it. There is absolutely no evidence for this and it also makes historically little sense. Maurice Magnus (talk) 11:37, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Interesting! Thank you for your seriousness of investigative research. Greenaway must have gotten the idea from somewhere, though. 173.88.246.138 (talk) 21:31, 7 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

The source itself is fine, but it is referenced in a lazy/less than preferred way. I'd recommend reading up on Wikipedia:Video links and properly formatting the reference for maximum context/longevity for next time. Sam Walczak Talk/Edits 02:14, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

April 2023 edit

Please refrain from using talk pages such as Talk:Hong Chau for general discussion of this or other topics. They are for discussion related to improving the article in specific ways, based on reliable sources and the project policies and guidelines; they are not for use as a forum or chat room. If you have specific questions about certain topics, consider visiting our reference desk and asking them there instead of on article talk pages. See the talk page guidelines for more information. Thank you. Sundayclose (talk) 15:27, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.
Please maintain a collegial spirit, as befitting our project's traditions and history. 173.88.246.138 (talk) 22:12, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add or change content, as you did at Wikipedia:Requested articles/music/Performers, bands and songwriters, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. CycloneYoris talk! 23:46, 28 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

I suggest creating an account edit

Hello there, I've seen some of your contributions, and it is clear you have been here for quite a while. I strongly suggest you create an account, for specific benefits of creating an account see here. Ollieisanerd (talkcontribs) 19:44, 16 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Welcome! edit

Hello! I noticed your contributions and wanted to welcome you to the Wikipedia community. I hope you like it here and decide to stay. You are welcome to edit anonymously; however, creating an account is free and has several benefits (for example, the ability to create pages, upload media and edit without one's IP address being visible to the public).

WP:FORUMSHOP edit

Raising essentially the same issue on multiple noticeboards and talk pages, or to multiple administrators or reviewers, or any one of these repetitively, is unhelpful to finding and achieving consensus. It does not help develop consensus to try different forums in the hope of finding one where you get the answer you want. (This is also known as "asking the other parent".)

Please don't do this, as you did with Talk:Coronavirus spike protein, Talk:COVID-19 lab leak theory, Talk:COVID-19, etc. — Shibbolethink ( ) 00:06, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

July 2023 edit

Hello, I'm Aviram7. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Bashi Channel, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. 🥇 ÀvîRâm7(talk)🩺 04:30, 12 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

When adding to requested articles, you must provide reliable, independent sources at the end of the request, or the requests will be removed. Take a look at how other requests on these pages are formatted, with links to sources at the end of the request, for examples of how to do this. Thanks! Double contrabass flute war edit

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Double contrabass flute. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Aamri2 (talk) 02:35, 24 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

August 2023 edit

Hello, I'm Notcharizard. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to Wikipedia:Requested articles/music/Performers, bands and songwriters because they seemed inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. -- NotCharizard 🗨 00:11, 4 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please don't do that, and undo your blanking. Thanks. 173.88.246.138 (talk) 02:54, 4 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Can you help? I added essential information that needed to be somewhere in the article (in order to help make it properly encyclopedic), and we're a collaborative project, each editor building on the strengths of the others. 173.88.246.138 (talk) 17:45, 7 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia and copyright edit

Hello 173.88.246.138! Your additions to Harry Lee (sheriff) have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. Grumpylawnchair (talk) 14:11, 29 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
