  • Participation: Out of 30 people who have signed up for this drive so far, 18 have participated. If you have signed up for the drive but have not yet participated, it isn't too late. If you haven't signed up for the drive, sign up now!

  • Progress report: Thus far we have reduced the number of May/June 2012 articles to just 124 articles, so we're on the right track. Unfortunately, for the first time in GOCE history, the number of articles in the backlog has actually gone up during this drive. While all participants are currently doing a fine job, we just don't have as many of them as we have had in the past. We have over 500 editors on our mailing list, but only 18 editors who have done a copy edit for the drive. If you're receiving this newsletter, it's because you have an interest in copy editing. Join the drive! Even if you only copy edit one article, it helps. Imagine how much progress we could make if everyone chipped in just one article.

Disambiguation link notification for December 6 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Oblate Sisters of the Virgin Mary of Fatima, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Spiritual exercises (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi, Paulmnguyen , as per your comments on the GOCE requests page, I've placed the requests for Maílson da Nóbrega and Partido da Imprensa Golpista on hold; I've seen your comments on the requester's page here. I'm about the check the articles (given that Brazillian politics isn't my forte). Thanks for your input and for checking out the articles; I've opened a discussion here, feel free to join the discussion. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 11:48, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

Venerable Bruno Lanteri edit

Hi, Paul. I stumbled across your request/question at the Catholicism project, and looked at Venerable Bruno's article. You've done a real good job on it! I see that you're constrained to using the "Saint" infobox but I guess it'll have to do. It seems to me that you've already identified most of the sources for the article (am I wrong?). I will read the article more closely and look for sources when I have time in the next few days. (I'd like to know more about his early life.) One tiny quibble: are we using the "Saint stub" template because there is no "Venerable stub" template? The wording from that template says he is a Saint (when he's not there yet). But as I say it's a quibble on my part—it may be the closest tool we have to do the job, like the Saint infobox. Thank you for your work on the article and God bless you for discerning your vocation (my wife and I will pray for you!). Sincerely, --71.163.153.146 (talk) 17:04, 21 December 2013 (UTC)

Thanks a lot, User:71.163.153.146! Yes, I plan to put some work in on his early life and more details about the founding of the Oblates. That whole story about Napoleon can be expanded, too - there's a bunch of back-and-forth and even heavy research Lanteri did and smuggled to the pope while Napoleon had the pope arrested in Savona. I agree the Saint infobox and stub category are a weak fix, but I figured it's better to start with those than simply "biography" stuff since he's "on the road" and the little explanatory Canonization box shows that chain. We could say he is "venerated" just within the Oblates of the Virgin Mary, which is basically true, though it doesn't have the canonical force of a liturgical feast day as Blesseds and Saints would, even on particular calendars.
As for sources, we have many other scholar-members in the congregation who have written his life and curated his writings, so there are several other biographical works that can be cited. Due to advancements in research into the documents of the time, the more recent biographies are generally more complete than the early ones, and they're also in English, so I started with those (the Christiani and the Gallagher). I've been in touch with our library in Pinerolo, Italy (was just there last week, actually), and I'll meet our Archivist in Rome early next week, so I'll have a better sense of what secondary sources we can reference in addition to those already listed.
Thanks for getting back to me! I will pray for your family, in turn. Blessings! Paul M. Nguyen (chat|blame) 17:46, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
Thank you, Paul. I don't think I've been much help because you don't seem to need much help—you are definitely headed in the right direction. I'll help in any way I can with the article. Know that you have an ally. We appreciate your prayers. God bless you! --71.163.153.146 (talk) 03:59, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
I just put a suggestion on the article talk page, the best place for it. --71.163.153.146 (talk) 20:56, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
This afternoon I ordered Begin Again from Fr. Gallagher's website, so in a few days I'll be able to help more actively! It has to be the most comprehensive biography in English (and probably any language), right? Merry Christmas! --71.163.153.146 (talk) 02:15, 24 December 2013 (UTC)
Aw that's awesome! Yes, it is very good and the most-researched synthesis in any language. Fr. Tim took the angle of including just enough of the historical context to give you a feel for the times, but really tries to introduce the reader to the man, Lanteri, through his writings, which is arguably the most novel aspect of his work. The other work that I cited, A Cross for Napoleon, has even more of the Napoleonic history, but burdens the story of Lanteri's life with it. There are several publications in Italian by Fr. Andrea Brustolon, OMV, which treat various tangential stories concerning Lanteri and those with whom he worked, especially as relates to the local history in and around Turin. I think Fr. Tim's writing style is accessible to attentive readers and the way that he interchanges between the historical narrative and describing Lanteri in his own words keeps you engaged and un-confused... happy reading, and Merry Christmas to you and your wife, as well! GOCE December 2013 Blitz wrap-up and January Drive invitation edit

December Notes from the Guild of Copy Editors

The December blitz ran from December 8–14. The theme for this blitz was articles tied in some way to religion. Seven editors knocked out 20 articles over the course of the week. Our next blitz will be in February, with a theme to be determined. Feel free to make theme suggestions at the Guild talk page!

The January 2014 Backlog elimination drive is a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on January 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on January 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goals are to copy edit all articles tagged in October and November 2012 and complete all requests placed before the end of 2013. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits at least one article, and special awards will be given to the top five in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", "Number of articles of over 5,000 words", "Number of articles tagged in October and November 2012", and "Longest article". We hope to see you there!

Coordinator election: Voting is open for candidates to serve as GOCE coordinators from 1 January through 30 June 2014. Voting will run until the end of December. For complete information, please have a look at the election page.
