The climate-table Template:Infobox_Weather/concise_F was created on 03-June-2009 by long-term user Wikid77 (me) as a concise interface to condense Fahrenheit climate-table coding as 8x shorter/faster than using the full Template:Infobox_Weather. -Wikid77 (talk) 08:10, 3 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Purpose of template edit

The purpose of the climate-table Template:Infobox_Weather/concise_F is to simplify coding of weather data by several methods:

  • as a short-form concise template to condense coding 8x times shorter (using 36 parameters);
  • by using Fahrenheit row data as typical in some source websites (as rows of 12 numbers);
  • to provide a short example to be copied (from the documentation);
  • to shorten coding so that special parameters are easier to read;
  • to use intuitive temperature-colors to spot coding errors in digits (as wrong colors).

All 5 methods (of simplifying climate-tables) provide a much easier way to code climate-tables into many articles. It is no longer a "one-hour task" to create (and verify) a climate-table for a town. In fact, some town-articles that previously used the full Infobox-Weather are now 11x times shorter by using "/concise_F". The data-storage is about 1kb (1024-1200 bytes) shorter, in the total text size of each article.

A 2nd purpose, of this template, is to provide an example of how to write a documented template, with internal NOTES & HISTORY, and to demonstrate (again) that a template can be designed to be "8x times easier" to use. Often, while distracted by other details of articles, it can be easy to forget that there are many ways to write articles 8x times faster. Some techniques are not just a mere 30% better, but rather, a staggering 800% better, as in the ease of use, provided by this template. -Wikid77 (talk) 08:10, 3 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
