Coordinates edit

See Torr Vale Mill. There are two red error messages {{#coordinates:}}: invalid longitude which are cause by a combination of the |longitude=-2.0032 being negative and the first line of this infobox, which is

{{#if:{{{latitude|}}}|{{coord|{{{latitude|}}}|N|{{{longitude|}}}|E|type:landmark|display=title}}

This expects the longitude to be east whereas a negative longitude is west. We need to remove both of the hemisphere specifiers to leave

{{#if:{{{latitude|}}}|{{coord|{{{latitude|}}}|{{{longitude|}}}|type:landmark|display=title}}

Similar problems at: Brunswick Mill, Ancoats; Ellenroad Mill; Junction Mill, Middleton Junction. --Redrose64 (talk) 21:47, 6 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
fixed? Frietjes (talk) 21:54, 6 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
These four are, yes; but I'm wondering whether any articles had the wrong sign for E/W in an attempt to "fix" the problem as it stood. --Redrose64 (talk) 22:13, 6 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
I don't think it was actually possible to fix it through a change in the article, but we can certainly scan all 97 transclusions and check. Frietjes (talk) 22:27, 6 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
I don know what the logic is of the template changes but ALL 54 members of Category:Textile mills owned by the Lancashire Cotton Corporation are broken. Could I suggest that you roll back the changes to clean version- and rethink the logic and sandbox the proposed changes. --ClemRutter (talk) 00:26, 7 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

No still well and truly broken- Look at Category:Textile mills in the United Kingdom- in all the subcategories every single infobox is broken. I will leave this fifteen minutes then attempt a roll back. --ClemRutter (talk) 00:37, 7 December 2012 (UTC) Roll back failed- — Preceding unsigned comment added by ClemRutter (talkcontribs) 01:07, 7 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

I don't think it's a problem with this infobox. Please see WP:VPT#Recent changes to MediaWiki and Template talk:Convert#Errors at the moment. --Redrose64 (talk) 12:45, 7 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
OK, {{Infobox mill building/sandbox}} now contains the version as left by Frietjes yesterday. I've tried this in some of the pages in Category:Textile mills in the United Kingdom (in preview mode, not saved) and I see no error messages (and no obvious errors either). This is in contrast to the present version (almost identical to that of 6 March), which exhibits the {{#coordinates:}}: invalid longitude problem as described above. --Redrose64 (talk) 12:55, 7 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
I am looking at Junction Mill, Middleton Junction which works when {{Infobox mill building/sandbox}} replaces {{Infobox Mill building}} that was redirected to {{Infobox mill building}}. That mill is representative of all 54. Making that version the substantive would cure most of the mill ailments. Looking at the page- (barring the capitalisation M->m) there is no error in the data given. One of the transclude templates incorrectly added both the (-) and the (W). The error does not occur in TMtr lines in List of mills owned by the Lancashire Cotton Corporation Limited .--ClemRutter (talk) 15:43, 7 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
The template sandbox {{Infobox mill building/sandbox}} is identical to the version of {{Infobox mill building}} which you rejected as unsafe at 00:58 today.
No templates have added either the (-) or a (W). The negative sign is in the |longitude= parameter in Junction Mill, Middleton Junction itself; the incorrect hemisphere (which is E, not W) is added by the very first line of {{Infobox mill building}}.
The coordinates on Junction Mill, Middleton Junction behave differently from those on List of mills owned by the Lancashire Cotton Corporation Limited because the {{coord}} template is passed slightly different parameters. Consider the actual use of {{TMtr}} in that page. It begins
{{TMtr|[[Junction Mill, Middleton Junction|Junction]]| Middleton Junction|{{Coord|53.5411|-2.1679|display=inline|region:GB|format=dms|name="Junction Mill, Middleton Junction"}}|| In 1891,
Notice how the {{coord}} uses just two coordinate values, no hemispheres. If I were to add hemispheres:
{{Coord|53.5411|N|-2.1679|E|display=inline|region:GB|format=dms|name="Junction Mill, Middleton Junction"}}
it would show as {{Coord|53.5411|N|-2.1679|E|display=inline|region:GB|format=dms|name="Junction Mill, Middleton Junction"}} which is precisely the same problem that the main article Junction Mill, Middleton Junction presently shows. --Redrose64 (talk) 17:33, 7 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
indeed, the problem was with changes to the backend software, which has been fixed. Frietjes (talk) 17:40, 7 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yes, looks good now. Thanks for the effort you have put in.--ClemRutter (talk) 19:06, 7 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Alternative to "alternate" edit

In British English we don't use the word "alternate" as used here in "alternate name". We say "alternative name" instead. I don't know if "alternative" is used outside the UK. Could we have an option to use "alternative" in British articles (or all articles if that made sense)? -- Dr Greg  talk  16:12, 6 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sounds like a sensible improvement. I have been thinking about other improvements- Most mills have a county reference number, and a listing building list entry number, date of listing- is there anything else we need? -- Clem Rutter (talk) 18:00, 6 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Can you test if that has fixed it- or give me the article name you are working on so I can see myself, cheers. -- Clem Rutter (talk) 18:10, 6 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, that is now fixed in the article I was looking at, Kirk Mill. The only issue is whether "alternative names" is valid in American English (or any other variety) where this template might also be used. -- Dr Greg  talk  22:10, 6 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Mapframe maps? edit

{{Infobox building}} and {{Infobox shopping mall}} have both recently been updated to automatically show dynamic mapframe maps by default. I am proposing to similarly show such maps by default for this template, with the same optional parameters to adjust the size, frame center point, initial zoom level, and marker icon; and to similarly allow the mapframe map to be turned off using |mapframe=no. See Template:Infobox building#Mapframe maps and Template talk:Infobox building#Change to the map parameter so Kartographer works for further information. (FYI: I'm making similar proposal for other buildings infobox templates) - Evad37 [talk] 15:36, 31 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

para display edit

|current_status= displays after the label Architectural style. It looks like it has been like this for over 10 years. Not sure if this was a simple oversight? See Shihlin Paper Mill as an example. Frietjes? MB 02:58, 24 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

yes, it looks like this one goes back to March 2009. now fixed. Frietjes (talk) 15:06, 24 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

renovation para edit

Junction Mill, Middleton Junction uses |re-equipment_date_2= and |re-equipment_date_3= but they don't display. It looks like the template is trying to make a bulleted list (with |renovation_date= which is not used in this case; an "empty" numbered bullet point is displayed). But even if I put a date in that field, the other two dates don't display. If I remove the two dates, then the Renovated label is not displayed. Frietjes? MB 02:25, 6 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

User:MB there was a typo using re-equipmen_date instead of re-equipment_date. not sure if there are places using the typo. Frietjes (talk) 21:19, 6 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. One question, looking at the template code changes you made, renovation_date still works and is an alias of re-equipment_date_1? If so, then this doc change that I made should be accurate. MB 22:04, 6 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
