Fat vs. fatty acid

edit

Mea culpa! I did it too. The information on this page derives (I believe) from the USDA nutrient database. When I added the sunflower information, I copied the fatty acid numbers under the fat columns. But fats are glyceryl triacylates, not fatty acids. Thus, the listed masses of the various fatty acids do not add up to the 100 g of fat. (In the case of sunflower oil, the sum is 96 g of fat per 100 g of fat; converting fatty acids to fats yields a total of 99.94 g of fat per 100 g of fat) I have corrected the sunflower oil numbers. — Jay L09 (talk) 15:47, 5 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sorting

edit

Is there a way to format table columns so that they sort numerically instead of alphabetically? The way it is, we get 11, 2, 28, 3, etc. which is not very useful. El Mariachi (talk) 19:49, 11 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Could we add Margarine to the "Comparative properties of common cooking fats" table. Also, there is a contradiction: first paragraph states that shortening is 100% fat, which I believe is true, but the table says it's 71%.

Who knows where 71 came from, it was there from the first revision without citation. ZiusudraZoon (talk) 02:19, 24 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Also add more percentages to the chart to be consistent. 184.74.55.230 (talk) 16:03, 14 December 2012 (UTC)not the guy aboveReply

The Comparative table entries are "per 100g", but some entries are not "100g". Why?

The Comparative order of entries has no apparent order. Recommend alphabetizing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.99.114.194 (talk) 15:40, 1 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Merge or Delete

edit

The 3rd table on Cooking oil duplicates this table and has more entries and info than this. Should: That table be merged into this one and used on that page? OR This template be deleted and any page that uses it link to that page? ZiusudraZoon (talk) 02:28, 24 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
