Period, comma with "program", "city" parameters

In using this template like this:

It's an error in coding for the city= parameter. Line 51 says

but the leading comma in

, {{{city}}}

Maybe? I've added a category to see how this parameter is actually being used. I can't think of any cases off the top of my head that shouldn't be italicized, but may there are. --- RockMFR 19:01, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

After taking a look at a selection of the usages, it looks like this actually shouldn't always be italicized. Sometimes the program param is used for network names, or library names, or other things that are not italicized. In cases where there should be italics, they are usually there. "preferred" date format? what about MOS:SYL

According to MOS:SYL full dates should always be linked.

1. Why doesn't this template follow the other cite xxx templates and automatically link the date?
2. Why is it specified that the "date" field shouldn't have any wikilinks?

E-mail interviews?

These days, e-mail interviews are extremely common, yet "format" is limited to "Transcript", "Audio" and "Video". And what if the interview is unpublished? I interviewed the daughter of Katsuji Matsumoto for the article about him, but can't find a better way to cite it than what I currently have. It was suggested that I use this template, but the result, using the fields available, is not very informative. Or am I overlooking some clever way to the fields available? I agree with you about email interviews, but I'd probably use "Transcript" unless there's something peculiar about the format of the published interview itself (e.g., the full text of each email published as a separate document on the web). I believe the format parameter is intended to distinguish between the delivery format of the interview, so the reader knows to expect the playback of a video or audio stream. Regardless of the medium and format, unpublished information can't be used as a reference for Wikipedia articles. All references have to be verifiable, and by definition something that isn't available to others can't be verified. You'd be better off waiting for your article to be published and then citing the article instead, either with this template or one more appropriate to the published work. Well, I'm still not sure this is the best way to go. To attribute a quote to a particular source it is better to put an inline reference directly after the quote. Anyway I've added this for now. Could you update the documentation? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:21, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

I have updated the doc. I agree, but I used the quote attribute with other cite templates to direct readers in the section where I got the reference from, for things like interview transcripts, or other huge walls of text (that is not paginate). d'oh! _talk 10:29, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Formatting issue - blank lines after use of template

I notice that there have some trailing blank lines after the entry when I use this template. When I use other citation templates, such as {{cite news}} and {{cite web}}, I can make a bulleted list with either and then follow it with a trailing blank line or not, and it renders the same - as would be for such list. However, when I use the interview template with a trailing blank line, it renders as if there are one or more blank lines. It only renders traditionally if there is no blank line between list items. URL and redundancy

At present, completing the url field results in an extra, parenthesised external link named Interview.

Organization as author

Date linking

The template is linking dates automatically, no ISO format required. It links American style dates, which, if you use today's date, gives a red link. Can an admin please fix it? Cite web, cite news, etc., do not do this, so it has to be a problem with cite interview.--2008Olympian^chitchat 07:10, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Remove linking of accessdate

Please remove the default linking of the accessdate field. I suspect this stems from when the norm was to write dates in the ISO YYYY-MM-DD format and link them for automatic formatting, but since that practice has for the most part passed, I would like to be able to fill in this field without linking (since linking a date like 2 March 2009 gives a red link). I want Template:Cite interview to have the |archiveurl= |archivedate= parameters that Template:Cite web and Template:Cite news have. For example, Template:Cite news with those two parameters show the following:

Year and Month Fields

Year and month fields don't work? With |date=29 |year=2010 |month=March, the result was "29". I just put the entire date in the date= parameter as the workaround. – Kerαunoςcopia^◁_galaxies 18:12, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

I believe a single date parameter is preferred, these days, since you don't have to bother with any mdy/dmy parameters. Other citation template still support them, I believe, but only for legacy reasons, and they are no longer mentioned in the documentation. Amalthea 15:59, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Name parameter not implemented

The name parameters don't seem to appear, only the subject. Shouldn't the name parameters be implemented in the case of an interview where the interviewee talks about the subject, rather than him/herself? Getting some clarification to make sure I completely understand...

The "last" and "first" slots are for the people being asked the questions, right? And the interviewer slot is for the person conducting the interview/asking the questions, correct? I'm slightly confused by the way the template is outputting these parameters, so I wanted to make sure I had their purposes correct. Also, does the cointerviewers parameter require the interviewer parameter to have information? I ask because it doesn't seem to do anything if I put both interviewers into it and leave the singular interviewer slot blank. - Purplewowies (talk) 03:06, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

Removing et al

Apparently, it's possible to replace et al with the name of a ninth subject with "|display-authors = 9", however, this doesn't seem to do anything for me.

The ref should list Ice Cream as the ninth, but it doesn't. Either I'm doing something wrong, or it really isn't possible. In the latter case, the doc shouldn't say it is. But the ninth subject would be wonderful as this interview (panel, actually) has exactly nine interviewees. ~TenTonParasol 02:27, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

The template will never show nine authors. I updated the documentation to better explain |display-authors=9:

• display-authors: By default, the number of authors displayed is limited to 8; if 9 are provided, the ninth is displayed as "et al." This parameter allows display of fewer authors before the "et al."; example: |display-authors=2; if there are 8 or fewer authors, then "et al." may be suppressed by setting |display-authors=9.

The problem is not in {{cite interview}}, but is a feature common to all the Citation Style 1 and Citation Style 2 templates, since it shows if we call {{Citation/core}} directly:
