Trivia

The reference to Ben Gurion's horror at the number Arabs working for the Zikhron Yaakov farmers has gone: "In 1910 David Ben Gurion worked as a farm labourer in Zichron Ya'akov for several months. In his retirement he wrote that he had been concerned by the number of Arab families working and living on the Jewish owned farms. One concern was that Jewish children were learning how to swear in Arabic." The argument given is that this is trivia. Tom Segev in his "definitive" (the Times) biography uses it to illustrate "a range of negative stereotypes [and] also trepidation that Jews would adopt Arab culture." Just saying. Humus anyone? This is an article about the town. Not about Ben Gurion, not about his ideas, not about the tensions between Israelis and arabs. The only reason for even mentioning Ben Gurion as a former (short term) resident is that he was such a prominent figure in Israeli history. But that doesn't mean every utterance he made in the few months working there belongs in an encyclopedia article about the town. Kenosha Forever (talk) 00:27, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Zikhron Ya'akov → Zichron Yaakov – "Zichron" is much more commonly used than "Zikhron", this page should be moved to Zichron Yaakov. news websites such as Haaretz, the Times of Israel, the Jerusalem Post, Israel HaYom, Ynet, the Washington Post, NBC News, and the New York Times, all call it "Zichron Yaakov" instead of "Zikhron Ya'akov", even the official website of the town calls it that. • Oppose per WP:HEBREW. "kh" is a preferable transliteration to "ch" as it avoids confusion about pronunciation. Ngrams are not conclusive, but do show the current title has been the most used (and if the article is to be moved, it should only be the first part of the name that should be changed (i.e. the second part should remain as "Ya'akov".   Closer, I have no opinion on the move itself. WP:HEBREW also says: Official transliterations into English as used by primary sources should also take precedence in naming articles or sections over the correct transliteration...For instance, in the case of Ness Ziona, the spelling used by the municipality of Ness Ziona will take precedence, but not the spelling used by the Israeli government...etc. Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 01:34, 4 March 2023 (UTC)
