Comparison chart

It doesnt make sense to have only four of the Web desktops from the market. There are several other web desktop's that has to make way into the chart. The chart is less informative and also provides very less options for the user/contributor to choose from. Kalivd (talk) 14:02, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Entries should be made in this table only for products that have their own Wikipedia articles. If you believe you can create a new article on one of the missing ones, do so. EdJohnston (talk) 14:40, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

If you look at the online office suites comparison charts there are several that can qualify as Web-desktops, so why not include them here too. Kalivd (talk) 06:14, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Examples include Edeskonline.com (As discussed above it also has is own wiki and it is very helpful and its very laymanish as i have used it myself), ZOHO, Googledocs, ...

What I feel is that if we are trying to compare or potray something then its should be fair. And all the players should be compared together. This will give the comparision some sort of value add. Dhoomady (talk) 06:58, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

I believe we should add a small comment at the intro of the article, with the alternative names.

Netvibes On chart

Netvibes runtime source code

Netvibes has released their widget runtime source code, so you can run netvibes widgets on your own server, and embed them on pages through iframes. [1]

Proposed deletion of comparison chart

I suggest we remove the comparison chart from this article. It primarily serves as a marketing tool for the vendors included here. The other main purpose it serves is to keep us busy removing entries that are not notable. See the edit history to get an idea of the percent of edits having to do with the comparison chart, most of which are either vendors trying to add a non-notable entry or one of us deleting a non-notable entry. I disagree, thats like throwing out the baby with the bath water, if the entries are notable, and if the entries have articles, I do not think we should delete the table just due to spam. A better measure would be to protect the article. --SF007 (talk) 19:06, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

The comparison chart is not the baby in the bath here. The baby is wearing some cream that attracts ants. We keep picking the ants off of the baby but they keep coming back. Further, all our time is spent removing ants rather than caring for the baby. I'm suggesting we remove the attractant from the baby. I don't find much value in the comparison chart. Perhaps, if significant value is perceived in such a chart, it could be moved to a separate page and referenced from here. Ronald Joe Record (talk) 19:29, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

I suggest we move entries in the comparison chart to Comparison of remote desktop software and replace the comparison table in this article with a link to the much richer and well maintained Comparison of remote desktop software. Any objections ? Ronald Joe Record (talk) 21:08, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

add silveos, hackermanos, amoebaos, astranos, mygoya, purefect, startforce, zimdeskos, free liveos zoo has multiple operating systems via java applet (multiple linux, reactos, solaris, minix, freedos, bsd), fenestela, lucid desktop. remove desktoptwo. Disambiguate?

This article has problems because the term "webtop" has been applied in so many different ways and to many radically different products. The article doesn't do justice to differentiating between them. SCO coined it to describe a VNC plugin. webOS products also call themselves "webtop". Motorola uses the term as a product name for their cellphone-laptop integration technology. More recently, it describes laptop hardware that is shipped with minimalistic web software desktops, such as Google Chrome OS. Some have even claimed that the term "webtop" describes any low-end laptop at all, such as the OLPC laptop. Misconception

A Web App is a standalone EXE file that has a built-in browser that loads the internal script. It is NOT a bunch of html files that run locally and are therefore dependent on a browser, as this article seems to suggest! It depends on the technology. Not all webapps are EXE files. But I agree that this article is very muddled with conflicting definitions of a web desktop. Thecorbaman (talk) 03:00, 22 July 2014 (UTC)
