Which mechanism does influenza use? edit

This page claims that influenza viruses enter the cell by fusion, whereas the influeza page describes endocytosis. Which one is correct? --Ralf Muschall (talk) 21:07, 21 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

It uses endocytosis for sure, however I can't say for sure that is doesn't also use membrane fusion. Farthin (talk) 11:53, 3 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

No distinction is made here between entry methods of enveloped vs. non-enveloped viruses. It should be noted that only enveloped viruses can enter a cell via membrane fusion and that non-enveloped viruses must utilize receptor-mediated endocytosis. This article is read as if there are not two distinct types of virus categories regarding enveloping. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.82.33.207 (talk) 19:52, 3 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
