I am nominating United Arab Emirates because it's A B-Class article with tons of links, (over 115 last time I checked) and no stubs on any article. This article has been well kept by the ditors with no edit wars. I believe United Arab Emirates will make a great GA. We shall make the resident or former resident be proud! I will most probably not review this article, but would leave some comments below. In general, it is a difficult task to bring a country overview to GA level, and this article clearly does need much work. For example,

  • the lead should summarize the article, and it seems incomplete now. Materialscientist (talk) 00:44, 12 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • All references must be reviewed. There are many incomplete and repeating ones (I understand they have different urls, but the titles should reflect that those refs are different). Bare urls are not acceptable. Google book links are fine, but their should be formatted, properly specifying the book they are citing. Books on english WP should be linked to google.com, not google.ae. Search pages are not legitimate refs. Dead links should be checked and fixed. Origins
  • "By the first century CE overland caravan traffic between Syria and cities in southern Iraq began, followed by seaborne travel to the important port of Omana (perhaps present-day Umm al-Qaiwain) and thence to India was an alternative to the Red Sea route used by the Romans." I've read that sentence several times, and I still can't understand what it's saying.
  • "Seafaring was also a mainstay ...". A mainstay of what?
Advent of Islam
  • The article jumps from the 1st century BC to 630, when the prophet arrived. Did nothing happen during the intervening 1,600 years?
Sheikh Zayed and the Union
  • Too many short paragraphs, the flow needs to be improved.
  • Is it "Union" or "union"? The text uses both.
  • The last four paragraphs are uncited.
Geography
  • The last four paragraphs are uncited.
Flora and fauna
  • This section is completely uncited.
Law
  • The first paragraph contains an external link, which should be converted to an inline citation. External links should only appear in the External links section.
  • The second, third, fourth, most of the fifth, and sixth paragraphs are uncited.
Political divisions
  • This section is completely uncited.
Demographics
  • "The population of the UAE has a skewed sex distribution consisting of more than twice as many males as females." That's a rather staggering statistic, and needs some explanation.
Culture
  • "This unique socioeconomic development in the Persian Gulf has meant that the UAE is relatively liberal." What "unique socioeconomic development? "Relatively liberal when compared to what?
Dress and etiquette
  • "Recently, many expatriates have disregarded the law and been arrested for indecent clothing, or lack thereof, at beaches ...". That's not what the source says. The BBC article cited is reporting the view of British visitors that other European countries should give their citizens the same advice when visiting the UAE as the British government does; nothing about numbers of expatriates arrested, or whether that number is growing.
Literature and poetry
  • First three paragraphs are uncited.
  • "The indigenous Arabic poetry form, however, was not spared from western influence ...". This clearly display a cultural bias that is not acceptable in a neutrally written encyclopedia article.
References
  • There are at least five dead links.[1]

The above list is by no means exhaustive, but it's clear that this article will need significant work if it is to meet the GA criteria. I'm putting this review on hold for seven days, to allow time for these issues to be adressed. --Malleus Fatuorum 15:46, 10 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

As these issues remain outstanding, this review is now closed, and the article has not been listed as a GA. --Malleus Fatuorum 03:41, 17 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
