Todd Ellis played quarterback for Greensboro-Page high-school in North Carolina. He led The Pirates to the state 4A divisional championship during his senior year, where he orchestrated two touchdown drives during the first half of the game. Their opponent, Seventy-First high-school, managed to tie the game in the fourth quarter, 14-14, ending the season with both teams sharing the 1984 NCHSAA 4A football championship. With Todd Ellis at the helm and, with an aggressive core of wide receivers, the Greensboro-Page pirates were nationally ranked in the 1984 USA Today high-school coaches poll. Ellis ended the season with an undefeated record.
Also—- might want to do some research with regard to the 1983 season. If I remember correctly, Ellis appeared in two consecutive NCHSAA 4A championship games. However, I do not have those particular details.
- Reference source: I know about 1984 because I attended the game, sitting in the press box, as my father, Jack Moch, “The Voice of the 71st Fighting Falcons” announced the play-by-play commentary from 1983-‘90. The game was hosted by 71st high-school.**
