1986-87 not 84

Undertaker did NOT debut in 1984, he states in his DVD called, "This is my yard', that he debuted in the late 80's, 86-87. 24.24.231.104 (talk) 02:12, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

On 6th April 2014 The Undertaker finally lost his 21-0 streak at WrestleMania to Brock Lesnar. Oddsockrs (talk) 02:54, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

Wrestlemania Streak

In some wrestlemania's it gives a number. In others it gives roman numerals. Surely it would be better if it was all roman numerals or all numbers.Perfectamundo (talk) 18:29, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

They're listed in the style they were presented in; Wrestlemania X used a roman numeral but 13 used digits, for example. The inconsistency isn't our invention. GRAPPLE X 18:59, 7 April 2014 (UTC).2014 Wrestlemania Undertaker Chose His Opponent And Break His Steak.

The streak as a "recent invention" is irrelevant. It's a core part of his character and, whether or not a streak was known before WM21, it's notable enough to be recognized. As for the "legit" thing, Wikipedia articles strive not to have a bunch of WP:JARGON terms clogging up the text. It should be instead written with the intention of allowing any reader to read it easily, without having to know/learn terminology beforehand. Antoshi 00:37, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

Re: The Streak. You are confusing two things. Sure the streak is part of the UT's current character. Hence, we have a section listing all his WM matches. The streak is also mentioned with every WM match were it was part of the storyline, beginning, I think, with Randy Orton. However, that doesn't mean that we have to mention it with every match - it is particularly pointless with the matches against Snuka (extremely pointless), Robert, Gonzalez, Bundy as it was nothing special then.
Re: Legit. My point is that "legit" and "legitimate", though etymologically linked, mean something else. The latter implies a value judgement.
Furthermore: by your your reverts you reverting back in the false statement that the UT was referred to as Kane during Survivor Series - he wasn't. He was referred to as such before and after the event but if one has a look at Survivor Series, Ted DiBiase introduces him as "The Undertaker", his name is written as "The Undertaker" and the commentary also refers to him as "The Undertaker". 07:40, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

Change the Picture back

I know the current picture is a more recent picture but it doesn't really represent the character of the undertaker very well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MarioMan9112 (talkcontribs) 07:13, 18 April 2014 (UTC)

Link leading to "Celebrity Smacktalker's Competition" in Other Media Section

The information contained in the Other Media part of the Undertaker's page, indicates he was portrayed in a professional fashion for a professional show for either TV or radio. This is not the case. The before mentioned "Celebrity Smacktalker's Competition" is a poorly made fan animation video where said fan is portraying all the characters, and has added the link to the page just for advertising rights. It has no need to be on this page.

Please add a wiki link to 'Kane (wrestler)' in the "Wrestlemania Streak" table (next to "XX".) The only wiki link to Kane that I could find easily was higher up on the page, so when I wanted to click over to Kane's page I had to ctrl+f through the 70+ mentions of 'Kane' to find one that was wiki linked. Makes sense for one to be down in the Streak table, as every other wrestler in that table has their name wiki linked (or, if faced more than once then just their first encounter is wiki linked.) Kane's is just plain text for his one and only match with him, so match the rest of the table it should be linked thusly: Kane.

Hezkezl (talk) 10:42, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

Kane is linked in the table next to "XIV". - Camyoung54 talk 02:00, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

Not done WP:Overlink does allow links in tables as well as text, but only the first use, which as pointed out, is only 5 lines above. - Arjayay (talk) 16:48, 9 September 2014 (UTC)

Camyoung54 is correct, and as such my original request is no longer valid. I apparently completely missed the part of the table where Kane was listed next to XIV...Whups! Apologies about taking almost a month to respond to this, but this is definitely as it should be and as such, I withdraw my request. BJJ black belt

Reading in a bunch of places that Taker began BJJ under Rolles Gracie in January 2010, trained in singlet instead of gi, got a black belt in later 2011. Mostly shows up on forums, having trouble finding good references, wondering if anyone can confirm, no mention of BJJ on this page, think we should mention if it can be supported. Even if we cannot confirm, if evidence of rumors is enough it might be good to mention at least that. Particularly since Punk has BJJ credentials and both have feuded with Lesnar and both have considered UFC careers. --Ranze (talk) 22:21, 29 November 2014 (UTC)

The Undertaker have used Front powerslam multiple times on his career and should be added to his signature moves. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yveshe (talkcontribs) 19:54, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

I have the Vince McMahon interview referred to in the article recorded, and nothing is mentioned about Undertaker being shocked at the decision to end the streak. Quite the opposite, McMahon states that Mark Calaway was on board with it and there is no one in the business who wants to give back more than he, and that Lesnar was the logical choice and that there was nobody else on the roster that could have gotten more out of defeating Undertaker at Wrestlemania than Lesnar, and he wanted to give back to the business in the biggest possible way he could. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Magicadevil (talkcontribs) 12:03, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

Orphaned references in The Undertaker

recently he won surviver series against bray wyatt family. I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of The Undertaker's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Three changes need to be made

1 - A gimmick section. 2 - More references about Undertaker's moves as the other wrestlers pages. --189.19.81.33 (talk) 17:40, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

There has been a lot of requests on this talkpage for a gimmick section. As I have a degree in journalism and have followed Taker's entire career since the early 90s, I can see what I can whip up in the next month or two. I am very busy with several projects at the present so give me a few weeks. I'll try to have something put together in or around February. AmericanDad86 (talk) 05:02, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

There isn't a Legacy section. A lot of wrestlers including Mick Foley have a Legacy section. I believe that the Undertaker, with his huge influence on the wrestling industry over his long career, also deserves a similar section. There is no doubt that he brought in the dark-side/ mystique into wrestling characters/ gimmicks while showing a lot of evolution in his wrestling style with great matches all over his career that youngsters would study, and also bringing about many gimmick matches such as hell-in-a-cell, casket, body bag match, etc and pushing a lot of careers such as Kane, Mankind, Austin, Lesnar, Angle, Batista, Edge, etc. Also the facts that most WWE wrestlers themselves call him the greatest over (Kurt Angle said it in an interview, so did most others in the "This is My Yard" DVD), Jim Ross calls him the most respected wrestler in the history of the business, etc. These facts need to be covered somewhere. - Mayankeagle (talk) 08:26, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

Why in god's name is the Undertaker's entire WrestleMania record listed under "Championships and accomplishments"?

There is already an article covering the Streak in detail. The WrestleMania record was already removed from the "Championships and accomplishments" section, but SethAdam99 restored it, saying: " 'The Streak' article is about his winning streak and This table is his win and loss record at WrestleMania... two different things but similar". Well, that makes little sense, because the overall record is just like everyone else's now - tainted. The Streak itself is the accomplishment, so I propose linking the Streak article within "Championships and accomplishments", because listing the entire WrestleMania record is just... ugh. 82.132.227.146 (talk) 17:28, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Proposed removal of BLP issues

Could another admin remove the following BLP violation unsourced text from the "Personal Life" section: "Calaway was once also involved in a backstage controversy with Shawn Michaels. Calaway had threatened Michaels that he would get beat up by Calaway if he didn't put Stone Cold Steve Austin over cleanly, in their match at Wrestlemania XIV.[citation needed] Following the threat, Michaels did lose cleanly to Austin." -- Ricky81682 (talk) 08:19, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

You will have the best chance of success if you first post here on the talk page what you want to insert and what source you want to cite rather than just re-adding it with a different source. Kendall-K1 (talk) 23:46, 11 February 2016 (UTC)

What do you mean it's not copyrighted??? It's an interview on Off the Record with Michael Landsberg uploaded by a non-verified youtube channel. Beyond that, I'm not sure what use an alleged backstage brawl has in an encyclopedia, especially the "Personal life" section.LM2000 (talk) 20:44, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

Youtube as a source

I'm not very happy with all the puffery that's sourced to Youtube. This verges on WP:OR, has potential copyright problems per WP:YOUTUBE, and is not properly cited per WP:CITEVIDEO. It reads more like a late-night infomercial than an encyclopedia. And as that last guideline says, "Editors should also consider if the content being referenced is truly encyclopedic if the best citation that can be made points to YouTube." Kendall-K1 (talk) 15:33, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

The person adding these is a long-term problem user here. Thanks for helping keep him in line. B. Mastino (talk) 18:56, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

"Legal Actions" section about the Meek Mill Lawsuit is completely nonfactual and cited with unreliable sources!!!

It is completely untrue that The Undertaker sued Meek Mill for sampling The Undertaker's entrance music. Firstly, Meek Mill released the track on SoundCloud and has not made a profit off of it and therefore cannot be sued for the sample. Secondly The Undertaker does not own any rights to his entrance music, it is a composition by Jim Johnston, based of a traditional melody, whose rights are wholly owned by WWE.

Finally, the sources cited are completely unfactual and unrelieable sources - Huzlers and TMZ, the first of which contains completely made up quotes from The Undertaker. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.141.11.11 (talk) 14:11, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

Legacy + Luchas De Apuestas

Firstly, shouldn't there be a section entirely JUST for UT's legacy because there is soooo much that can be said. IMO, the current legacy section isn't good enough. Also, I noticed in UT's luchas de apuesta record that there was a streak vs championship section. Now I'm not so sure, actually. But I'm pretty sure neither one is Edge, and the chokeslam image definitely isn't. DoubleYouSeaDoubleYou (talk) 11:56, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

The images are both of edge as in both it can be clearly seen that the wrestler getting choke slammed and tombstoned has rated R superstar on his attire so it is clearly edge and not anyone else.90.220.247.83 (talk) 17:29, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

Isn't it about time he got a new photo at the top of his page? That one is outdated.

Not only is the picture nearly 3 years old now with him sporting a beard he only wore for about a month, but having an out of character picture of him doesn't really do the article for The Undertaker justice. He's a wrestler that has a heavy sense of kayfabe and needs a picture of him in his ring attire. I heard the reason no one used any pictures like this was because of copyright reasons? Well, there's plenty of non wwe pictures of him in his gear from his recent little stunt with the Cleveland Cavaliers. They're all great, just google it.

I mean practically every other wrestler on wikipedia has a good picture, I think Undertaker should have something that doesn't confuse people when they look at his article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexthesoutherner (talkcontribs) 19:44, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

See Wikipedia talk:Protection policy for the discussion. I still wanted a level below full protection. Is this a content dispute, or plain disruption by ec accounts? El_C 19:47, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
El_C At this point it's become both, As you can see by the discussions on this talk page. There has been no announcement and various users and IPs want to immediately make claims with no definitive or official source, which is disruptive to the article and is going to start edit wars at some point and violates WP:BLP if I read correctly. I figured requesting full due to the constant Unsourced additions and BLP violations "if I read BLP correctly" would keep the Article intact for a short period and give time for an official source to come forward along with keeping anyone from getting nailed for edit warring, I don't want to see anyone blocked or the article in constant disrupt over something so silly, As users have been using sandbox to get up to EC to by pass semi on other Articles that were semied I figured full was the best option to request. If that's wrong then bad on me, Do whatever you think is best for the article. Chris "WarMachineWildThing" Talk to me 20:38, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
WWE has given a reliable source. People need to learn patience. Do what you think is best. Chris "WarMachineWildThing" Talk to me 20:56, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
I'm just saying, we can keep the protection at ec and I can simply block or remove the rights of ec users that are being disruptive. Full protection is primarily reserved for content disputes, so what I'm trying to ascertain is which is the greater of the two here: disruptive editing or a content dispute? El_C 20:59, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
Does it mean the dispute is now over and I can unprotect? El_C 20:59, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
I believe the dispute was greater as you can see by the talk, but WWE has finally made a statement so it's an official source. People need to learn patience and learn to wait for Official sources. So I see no need for the full anymore. Chris "WarMachineWildThing" Talk to me 21:03, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

"Resurgence"?

The title of the last section of his career sounds too "fantasy"-like and favorable POV. I think it should be replaced with "Post-streak appearances". MonsterHunter32 (talk) 23:08, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

All sorts of mundane things have resurgences. "Resurrection" would be the cheesier choice. I think it's important to have some sort of indication that it wasn't all downhill after Lesnar. InedibleHulk (talk) 12:34, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

Undertaker Retired at WrestleMania 33

He is going to have the Hip replacement Sc30002001 (talk) 04:48, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

This is not confirmed. Yes, he did the "swan song" of putting his gear in the ring. But it is not the same as a statement. Look at how many times Terry Funk swan song'd at an event. This is NOT a confirmation of his retirement and should NOT be treated as such until a statement has been made by him or WWE. retched (talk) 04:50, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
Until there is an official announcement that he has or is retiring it is unsourced and in violation of BLP. Chris "WarMachineWildThing" Talk to me 04:51, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
  • Undertaker is not Terry Funk I truly believe he is done. None the less I don't mind waiting. Sc30002001 (talk) 04:54, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
Jim Ross said the deed to the yard has "indeed" changed hands, but as as the WWE Universe was in Florida at the time, Taker and Reigns still need to complete the quitclaim deed, bring it to a property appraiser or tax collector (state, not federal) and pay the filing fee. It's normally a simple matter, but complicated here by Taker exiting through the entrance trapdoor after the last match of the night, likely sealing himself beneath the stage till Raw at the earliest. InedibleHulk (talk) 13:10, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

The Undertaker retired on 02 April 2017 at Wrestlemania 33 after being defeated by Roman Reigns in the main event. His final score in Wrestlemania now stands as 23-2. Brock Lesnar was the first person to defeat him in Wrestlemania 30. [1] [2] Workdesk89 (talkcontribs) 13:19, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

No reliable or Official source has stated he is or has retired. Every site listed says may have or could be,. Neither of the sites you listed say yes he said he retires because he hasn't yet. Until it comes from Taker or WWE, then it's all rumor I and speculation. Chris "WarMachineWildThing" Talk to me 18:55, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

Many WWE stars and The Undertaker's wife have confirmed his retirement on social media, with some of the posts being collected by the WWE and published on their website. Dave Meltzer, a noted wrestling journalist also said that it was The Undertaker's last match in a review of the show. [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] Danrod96 (talk) 20:41, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

Make Mark's retirement from wrestling a subheading? Thursby16 (talk) 11:12, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

The extent of current text is "After the match he left his gloves, coat, and hat in the center of the ring." Hardly seems worth splitting off. Probably best to just mention this means he retired, and retitle the section "Resurgence and retirement". I can't imagine there'll be much more to say, career-wise. In the legacy section it states that the Undertaker is one of two active guys who has wrestled for WWE since the 90s. However the Big Show and Triple H should also be included. 89.234.98.94 (talk) 11:55, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

He is neither retired nor semi-retired he did same at the time of Wrestlemania 30 by returning at Mania 31. he did it again and doesn't mean you people put the title semi-retired or retired word for Undertaker. CK (talk) 17:48, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

Retired?

The lede says he is a "retired American professional wrestler", but I haven't seen anything official to support this. Online speculation doesn't count. 2A02:C7F:8E16:8300:EC67:E469:DFEB:924F (talk) 18:14, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

He unfortunately retired at Wrestlemania 33 Itsmevinnie (talk) 09:12, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

  • ^ No. That is simply not true and is entirely speculation. There has been no official announcement that he has retired. Its very likely, yes, but until WWE or Taker himself officially says he's retired then the forward shouldnt state that. 72.161.84.139 (talk) 04:46, 6 May 2017 (UTC)

STILL no confirmation from Calaway or WWE regarding a retirement. Meltzer doesn't decide who's retired - the wrestlers themselves do. Wikipedia is again just reporting garbage. 2A02:C7F:8E0C:6600:B0F6:ED7F:A212:3C20 (talk) 20:12, 18 June 2017 (UTC)

Don't take Wikipedia as a reliable source, because it's WP:NOTSOURCE. The retirement wasn't confirmed on air, but lots and lots of sources did so. Nickag989talk 20:27, 18 June 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, holy Meltzer said it. Nothing from Calaway or WWE. It's tennis season: that's the equivalent of John Inverdale just deciding that Roger Federer has retired, despite no statement whatsoever from Federer or the ATP. Terrible stuff. 2A02:C7F:8E0C:6600:B0F6:ED7F:A212:3C20 (talk) 21:28, 18 June 2017 (UTC)

I have changed it, as well as the last section of his career, as he has not officially retired. Vyselink (talk) 11:22, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

I have removed references to "retirement", as they are not only unconfirmed by WWE/Undertaker, but unsourced. Regarding the infobox refs given to support his "retirement", the WWE one says absolutely NOTHING about retirement, while the BBC cite says, non-committally, that he "seems to have retired". There's a ref from The Sun claiming that Taker has retired, but since it's from Britain's very lowest tabloid asswipe, I think we can safely (dis)regard it as unreliable. When WWE or Calaway himself says the Undertaker is done, we'll re-add the retirement stuff. Leoni98 (talk) 08:42, 15 August 2017 (UTC)

He is still listed as an active competitor at WWE.com. He's not listed as an alumni. No evidence that he is retired. 82.132.223.107 (talk) 11:31, 16 August 2017 (UTC)

@Leoni98: Yeah that's what I'm trying to do also at WrestleMania 34 as it mentions that "Presumed to be retired at Mania 33" which I'm trying to remove but no body will listen. According to me, It's just a propaganda in real life. We say WWE is fake, so people want to prove that WWE is nothing but a joke. i.e why the retirement rumors were made by publie but neither by company no by deadman. Retirement word used only one time at a time when HBK was advising to Roman Reigns which people took it as retirement after the loss of deadman at Mania 33. he just left his gears just as John Cena left his armband at SummerSlam 2016 after losing to AJ Styles. wwe.com hasn't updated any of statement regarding any retirement even deadman not by himself. not even semi-retirement. brie bella is semi-retired upon her mentioning and announcement but not by people.
