Some comments

Okay, there seems to be a problem here with citing sources on all of the John Kricfalusi and Ren & Stimpy articles. Some of these articles have "no sources" tags. Adding info to articles without source links makes it very hard to differentiate between info that is real, and material that is made up. I know that there's a lot of info here on these articles that is real, that's just unsourced. If anyone knows, for instance, URLs for webpages where John K. made some of the statements quoted and used for information in these articles, please link to them. For instance, John's blog seems to be the source of some of these quotes, so if there's a bit of info from there, link to it with a reference tag. See: Wikipedia:Citing sources. If an extremely dedicated and informed fan can do this, it would be truly helpful. Thanks. (Sugar Bear 23:08, 15 July 2006 (UTC))

There use to be a page about Ren And Stimpy The Movie which I can not find anymore. Could someone look up if this a real thing and if the page needs to be brought back.

Okay. Yah know how John K. got fired because Ren and Stimpy was a LITTLE too violent? Yah well after he got fired, Ren and Stimpy got SUPER violent and SUPER gross. I think Nickelodeon just hated John K.8Jungwirth3839300 20:55, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Slanted view

Hmm. A couple things here seem sort of slanted. Maybe it should be edited to meet Wikipedia neutrality standards? --Lettuceclock 04:44, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

>> Would it be 'slanted' to point out that John K is a prima-donna who can't meet a deadline, and thus killed the original R&S show? Congrats John! Great job. Thanks a million. (No sir, I don't like him!)

Question

Which episode was an obvious parody of Darwin's Galapogas Islands? Rintrah 09:13, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

That was "Untamed World", Season 1, EP 5. Now another question: What is Stipmy's breed? American Short-Hair? I remember he was called a "Cornish Rex Hound" in the dog-show parody "Dog Show" (paired with "Big Baby Scam"). I guess that's the 2 best choices. Adult Cartoon Party Quotes

I just wanted to say thjat I think the quotes from the Adult Cartoon Party episode Ren Seeks Help should be tooking away It contains lots of profainty and I find it inaproproit. Sonic34 13:16, 13 November 2006 (UTC)Sonic 34

Extremely Confusing

I consider myself to be at least a fairly intelligent person, and I have to say the history of the show in this article is extremely confusing. Without looking at the DVD list or episode list, for instance, there's no way to discern how long the show ran. Very confusing. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.142.140.177 (talk) 11:33, 19 January 2007 (UTC).

Cleanup

This is a bit of a todo for my own purposes, but I would also like others input on them.

  • I'm thinking we should split the Music section into Music of Ren and Stimpy which can also include the Ren and Stimpy Sing portion.
  • Episode status is really redundant, in more ways than one
  • Episode list Should probably be split
  • Some Supporting Characters have articles in multiple places that need merging: Mr. Horse , Ren and Stimpy Show characters
  • Video games and Comic books need to be under Ren and Stimpy in other Media
  • Ren & Stimpy on DVD should be changed to Ren & Stimpy on Home Video with subcategories of the various current bits.

Characters other than Ren and Stimpy

I feel that this section could benefit greatly by being split up into several sub-sections; i.e. frequently recurring characters, minor characters, and memorable one-offs (characters that appeared only once in the series but played a key role in that episode. --Goldrushcavi 02:06, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

I suggest limited this page for frequently recurring characters and moving all others to the already created Ren and Stimpy Show characters page. If there are no objections, I'll do this in a few days.
--Antsh 23:29, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
The best solution is to put the full details of all characters (including Ren and Stimpy) onto the new page leaving a breif description of the frequently recurring characters here. I've have subsumed Main characters and Characters other than Ren and Stimpy under Characters & replaced the split tag with a merge tag. Jimp 07:46, 7 March 2007 (UTC) I have done this bringing the article down to 35KB. Jimp 07:03, 8 March 2007 (UTC) Here's a better explanation. I've merged the sections Main characters and Supporting characters to Ren and Stimpy Show characters. I've left a breif summary under the title Characters with a link to the main article. Jimp 01:39, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Splitting the article

There's a suggestion in the main article that the supporting characters section be split into its own article. I vote for "No." Although I am a huge TV animation fan, I don't necessarily believe that every character, setting, episode, etc., of "The Simpsons" (or "Futurama" or "Family Guy". etc., etc.) deserves or requires its own wikipedia article. I vote for consolidation, so long as it doesn't create articles that are unusable large.PurpleChez 20:56, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

It has created an article which is unusably large. The simplest solution is to split the article but if you want to trim it instead ... Jimp 07:48, 7 March 2007 (UTC) Though I do agree that we don't need articles of individual characters. I think I've found a decent solution. Jimp 01:25, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Höek!

Ren's name is Höek, not Høek! Elil

Actually it should be Hoëk as can be seen in the Mr. Horse returns sketch. This also follows for a more accurate pronunciation of his name. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6jbP2xrNiM&feature=related) Evanderm (talk) 19:18, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Behind the scenes is SEVERELY lacking

This is an extremely disappointing article in regards to the backstory of the John K produced R & S episodes and the departure of John K. Honestly a reader would have ZERO idea that there was even any politics at play during or after the departure. Since may fans of the show do not even regard the post-John product from Nick as part of the series it would seem like an important series of events to explain to the public. Also of note was a meeting of Billy West and John K live on the Howard Stern show years later and the fact that John K offered West the Stimpy voice again on the Spike version of the series--anahna-mouse 15:57, 25 June 2007 (PST)

A source that could be used: Jerry Beck's Not Just Cartoons: Nicktoons!

I found a book in the bookstore called Not Just Cartoons: Nicktoons! by Jerry Beck. I'm not going to buy it and join the project, but I will ask the other members to get the book so that they can add real world information about various fictional characters.

This makes the creation of separate articles for *many* fictional characters feasible. Having information about the development of the character will make the articles satisfy Wikipedia:Notability (fiction)

In this case, the source has a lot of information about Ren and Stimpy and one could possibly write separate articles for each character. WhisperToMe (talk) 02:32, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

Show

I think the show shouldn't come back this summer. It was way too innopropriate... That's why they cancelled it.

Even if John wanted the show back, Nickelodeon hates him and the show. Thats why they shunned it and put it on the latest time slot on Nicktoons Network. Besides, Spumco is shut down, John is working on other projects, and he would never ever bring it back because Nickelodeon gave him hardly any creative control. Now that that is out of the way, I have a dihlema. A little while back on ether the Adult Swim page, or the Ren and Stimpy Adult Party Cartoon page, a scentence said that they might be showing APC on Adult Swim. Is that true? Gregory E. WikiProject Comics B-Class Assesment required

This article needs the B-Class checklist filled in to remain a B-Class article for the Comics WikiProject. If the checklist is not filled in by 7th August this article will be re-assessed as C-Class. The checklist should be filled out referencing the guidance given at Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment/B-Class criteria. For further details please contact the Comics WikiProject. Mid-importance to TV?

In terms of animation on TV, why is Ren & Stimpy considered mid-importance and Spongebob Squarepants high-importance? I won't doubt Spongebob is more visible to the public eye, especially now, or that it's highly important in the scope of TV, but Ren & Stimpy was the most important and defining animated show on cable up to that time. Even if it isn't as big a cultural monument, it was at least as important as Beavis & Butthead to the development of it. And at the same time, why is it on the same mid-level importance in the Comics portal? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.252.24.25 (talk) 16:04, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

"Life Sucks"...

I just found this on John K's website:

http://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/2006/12/ren-and-stimpy-in-life-sucks-animatic.html

He said it was "one of the best Ren and Stimpy things that they'd ever written, but it was scapped"....

Should that be mentioned? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mamaluigibob (talkcontribs) 08:08, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Obvious popular culture, anyone?

Excuse me, but why does the "characters" section say that Ren is a kangaroo and Stimpy is a fox? Get some brains. It has been stated countless times that Ren is a Chihuahua dog and Stimpy is a Manx cat. Watch the programme before you edit the article. I'm going to change it immediately. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.244.136.103 (talk) 19:44, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

in the article it states the new show explored thier homosexual relationship....so they're gay now? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.249.44.56 (talk) 08:38, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

Left Field Quote

I have a real question how this quote "Coury Turczyn, writer for PopCult Magazine, describes Nickelodeon as firing Kricfalusi due to "being too creative, too original, and too sophisticated."[23]" is in any way significant to the section it comes from. There are numerous quotes from sources connected to the production of the show from both camps that pretty much made clear the situation involved in the firing of Kricfalusi, and yet this quote comes at the end with absolutely no connection to Nickelodeon or Kricfalusi's staff.

I would think it should just be removed at this point, its pretty clear that his firing had nothing to do with the show being "sophisticated" and everything to do with the level of violence and more importantly, Kricfalusi's inability to keep a TV deadline .

Not only that but I strive hard to even recall knowing who this writer even is. Seems like a random article writer hoping to get his name attached as a valid source in a Wiki article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.198.254.243 (talk) 19:24, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Inconsistency

First you say Stimpy is one type of cat, then later, a different one. You should fix that.Omegakingboo (talk) 03:58, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Possible false parody?

I notice a user posted a reference to a parody Ren and Stimpy plus many other cartoons and show on this show or program called "The Animeland". The only problem is that there's no reference of where this parody came from. There is a web site that is called "The Animeland" but because it's in Spanish, and also the fact that it looks more like a web site that reviews animes, I can't know if that's where the parody is referenced to. The Ren and Stimpy ShowThe Ren & Stimpy Show — The use of the ampersand (&) appears to have prominence. For example, in the title card of the series, it's written as The Ren & Stimpy Show, not The Ren and Stimpy Show. A Google image search also shows that the ampersand is always used in title cards, video game covers and so on. This is also seen in the non-free media included in Ren & Stimpy's Crock O' Christmas and Ren & Stimpy "Adult Party Cartoon". Per WP:&, the title of this article should match accordingly. — ξxplicit 05:24, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

  • Oppose The use of an ampersand (or not) is a matter of style. Wikipedia's style is to, generally, not use them. Similarly, we wouldn't use Ren and STIMPY, even if that was how the name appeared in title cards, video game covers and so on. Skinsmoke (talk) 11:10, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
