Hendricks Field edit

From Syracuse University Annals, 1910-1925, Vol. 4, p.949.

The Hendricks field is now a reality. It covers three acres of land [at the corner of Raynor and Irving Avenues] and is in two levels separated by a concrete wall seven feet high. On the lower level are located six tennis courts and two jumping pits. The courts are built in pairs in inclosures of 102 by 122 feet, separated by fences. The upper level consists of two basketball courts, a running track 12 feet wide and 410 feet long and a hockey field 150 by 310 feet. Three pairs of stairs with drinking fountains at the foot connect the two levels. These are the women's parts of the field. When the Railway loop is removed work on the men's part of the field will be started. This will include a baseball field, grandstand, tennis courts, football and lacrosse fields. Dean Mitchell supervises the work.

A small remnant of what must have been the original Hendricks Field remains, adjacent to the Carrier Dome, Lawrinson and Sadler Halls. Today's Hendricks Field is used for club rugby, marching band practice, and other activities. It's not clear where the former baseball diamond used to be; perhaps where Standardt parking lot is today? DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 19:52, 6 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
