Move Etoile section?

I'm thinking of moving the Etoile section to be a subheading of schools, what do you think? Kyaa the Catlord 17:51, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Anime Section

The anime section starts off with a "main article" link to the list of episodes. This is misleading to readers as the list does not exactly discuss the anime. A little hard to articulate what I'm trying to say here, but what I mean is that a fitting use of the "main article" template would be if we had one dedicated article for the animated series (which may detail differences from other media and things specific to the anime), in which it may be named something like "Strawberry Panic! (anime)". The link should either be incorporated in the anime section differently or remain at the top but with a different template. --Remy Suen 14:53, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Well...I suppose we can try. We still haven't resolved much of what was left with the last one as the Media section's subsections of Light Novel, Manga and Video Game are still sub-par in information. The original media

Only the beginning of the article mentions the short stories

"Strawberry Panic! began as a collection of short stories serialized in the Japanese bishōjo magazine Dengeki G's Magazine"

I think it would make more sense if there was more information on these stories was added to the media section, because the short stories are the "original media" which gave life to the other works.

I was the one that included that information, and I obtained it through a post on the AnimeSuki forum I came across back in May when I first started building up this article. Here it is, where it states:

Strawberry Panic! started as a short novel (short stories) being serialized in the bishoujo magazine Dengeki G's Magazine (bishoujo magazines are aimed at male audience).

The short stories finished serializing in the bishoujo magazine Dengeki G's Magazine, but the short story novel was not collected in a tankoubon.

I'll go and site the source in the article, but unless the Japanese Wikipedia article can be translated, we can't go very much farther into the short stories. --(十八|talk) 01:16, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Anime to Manga Differences

Quoting the current content:

"Major differences between the anime and manga mostly centers around the plot and character interaction. The manga investigates the physical aspects of the lesbian themes further than the anime, which focuses mostly on their relationships together."

From what I've seen from the manga, it seems that the plot progresses much more quickly and we find out about Kaori rather soon. Character designs are a bit different, but that's like most manga to anime conversions so it's not a major thing to list. I've only read about 8 of the manga chapters, and another thing was that the Etoile Election process is a major plot point from the first or second chapter on while the anime waits until the later part of the series to touch on it for the dramatic effect. However, there are still the Amane/Hikari and Nagisa/Shizuma pairings though Nagisa and Shizuma are participating in the election process, unlike in the anime where it was with Nagisa and Tamao. Astraea Hill name change

Per the official Seven Sea's Entertainment SP! website it is shown that they have chosen to translate the name as Astrea instead of the more correct Astraea. I have changed the name in the article to reflect this.--(十八) 19:58, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Rokujou Miyuki

Sorry, but no can do. She was not in the original short stories and was only created by the manga/light novel stage. Those 12 main characters have always been vastly important to the plot, and the opening sentence of that section tells the reader that more characters were later added to create plot lines, which is exactly why Miyuki and the others were introduced.--十八 14:42, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

And the image to the right has the 12 original characters, plus we should try to focus on how this series began. Grade system table

There wasn't any source attributed to it. In the anime, they explain the grading system, and mention how 4th grade at Astrea is like the first year of high school in regular Japanese schools, and the equivalent there in America is 10th grade, so it was just matching up the equivalents of the three school system's grades.--十八 01:46, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Demographic

I don't think it's really that feminine, not like shōjo series, and keep in mind that this is a Japanese series, and the Japanese may mix elements together, but in the end there is usually only one demographic. As such, it's rather simple to see if a series is shōjo, shōnen, or seinen by the content of the series and how the plot and characters are depicted. Not to mention that the series began as serialized stories in Dengeki G's Magazine, which is a seinen bishōjo game magazine, and the manga for the series was serialized in the same magazine. So I would definitely put this series under seinen.--十八 02:08, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for clearing that up! I have to say, I like how it does seem to be a guy's version of certain Shojo/Josei manga; girls can watch any kinda anime, because being tomboyish isn't exactly frowned upon, but us guys have a large genre of anime/manga (the more light hearted romancy stuff) closed off. Thank god that thanks to this we get some experience in a major manga genre. Plus it's a nice diversion from the more combat-heavy/complexity-laden stuff I usually watch. Manga last run date

The Japanese Wikipedia says that the manga ended 04/2007. However, I can't really read Japanese that well, so I can't tell if the page says anything in detail about the manga's cancellation or a third volume. I've known about this for some time. The manga version had it's last appearance in the April 2007 issue of Dengeki G's Magazine, but the story was not finished. They might restart it some day, but for now the manga is unfinished and is officially on "indefinite hiatus"; in other words, MediaWorks has not officially announced that the manga has been canecelled.--十八 01:17, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

We don't need to say everything in the infobox. A quick read of the manga section will tell the reader that the story was unfinished. I just thought that "discontinued" carried the same meaning as "halted before conclusion", but with less wording.--十八 21:12, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for listening to my suggestion and even following through with it. I like it better now that you have tweaked it. In reading it, I simply felt that it did not specify on what the whole poll voting thing is about (even though the Production section goes into detail about that; specifying it). And, yeah, I still feel that it should specify a little more, but this article is really good, regardless, as you know. Adding a little more to it is not something to be stressed about right now, of course. I am not sure what to add there either at the moment. If I do add a little more to it, I would hope you approve of the addition. If you do not, then I do not mind terribly if it was tweaked or reverted. We could always discuss changes.

The English manga version excludes the exclamation mark; the video game has it, or did you not look at the images?

As for Dino's comments, the original material was never collected into volumes and sold separately outside of Dengeki G's Magazine. The later material including the manga and light novels were adaptations, along with the anime, video game, etc. Because of this, the infobox image has remained unchanged from its uploading back in 2006. While I suppose it wouldn't be much of a problem to use either the first light novel or manga covers in the infobox, I still never went ahead and did it because 1) They're adaptations and 2) No one has really said anything about the infobox image up to this point.--十八 21:32, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Yes, in the Short stories section: None of the original stories were ever published again in bound volumes.. The Japanese version of the first light novel has the exclamation point; as I said, the English versions excluded it from the manga and light novels. And just to be absolutely clear, that light novel (and the other two printed later) were adaptations and are not to be confused with the short stories which are the basis for the series and which were never collected into bound volumes (as in, they were only published in Dengeki G's Magazine). There were cover pages used in the magazine, but they generally have a lot of other stuff on them, in addition to an illustration, such as with the first cover using the first logo design or the fourth cover using the second logo design. However, as luck would have it, there was one decent cover using the third logo design (and the last one used for the short stories). I think the last one is best as it only has a side strip of extra kanji, and not only features a large logo, but was the only cover to include all twelve of the original characters.
