The funny thing about this player is the hype he received before ever playing a MLB game. This was due to a 1985 Topps "prospect" card (#282) that became valued as a kind of pre-rookie card for a can't-miss phenom. Unfortunately, Abner's career only served to de-valued all of these cards (he "missed" alright). Em-jay-es 06:31, 1 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Em-jay-es, that had next to nothing to do with the hype he received. His being chosen No. 1 in the major league draft is the reason for the hype. He was on the cover of the New York Post before he ever played a minor league game. Jrshooter (talk) 22:15, 22 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
