I am trying to figure out what happened to the page that was here. It represented Shane McDermott, the actor. This page was edited in Feb 2017 and all of his content removed. Replaced by a football player. I am just trying to get this resolved on behalf of Shane McDermott, the actor.

This is what the page was in February 2017 according to the "waybackmachine" https://web.archive.org/web/20170207062811/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shane_McDermott This is what the same link goes to today. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shane_McDermott

As you can see, the page was deleted and replaced with Shane McDermott, the football player.

Please advise as to what I do next.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Terraats (talkcontribs) 21:01, 11 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

As this involves a possibly deleted article, I've made an inquiry for you at WP:AIN. I'll get back to you on what I find out, or you may follow the discussion there at WP:AIN#The case of the disappearing actor.

Answer 11-DEC-2018 edit

  • The article on the actor was proposed for deletion due to notability concerns and was deleted on 20 February 2017 by the administrator Vanamonde93.
  • With regards to those notability concerns, the subjects of proposed Wikipedia articles are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published[1] secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other,[2] and independent of the subject.[3] The notability requirements for actors on Wikipedia additionally include:
  1. The subject must have had significant roles in multiple notable films, television shows, stage performances, or other productions
  2. Has a large fan base or a significant "cult" following.
  3. Has made unique, prolific or innovative contributions to a field of entertainment.

The article was deleted because it did not meet these requirements. If you have any additional questions about this article's deletion or the notability requirements for actors, please don't hesitate to ask. You can also bring any questions you may have to the WP:HELPDESK.

References

  1. ^ What constitutes a "published work" is deliberately broad.
  2. ^ Sources that are pure derivatives of an original source can be used as references, but do not contribute toward establishing the notability of a subject. "Intellectual independence" requires not only that the content of sources be non-identical, but also that the entirety of content in a published work not be derived from (or based in) another work (partial derivations are acceptable). For example, a speech by a politician about a particular person contributes toward establishing the notability of that person, but multiple reproductions of the transcript of that speech by different news outlets do not. A biography written about a person contributes toward establishing his or her notability, but a summary of that biography lacking an original intellectual contribution does not.
  3. ^ Autobiography and self-promotion are not the routes to having an encyclopedia article. The barometer of notability is whether people independent of the subject itself have actually considered the subject notable enough that they have written and published non-trivial works that focus upon it. Thus, entries in biographical dictionaries that accept self-nominations (such as the Marquis Who's Who) do not contribute toward notability, nor do web pages about an organization's own staff or members.
