Coast, not coastline? edit

Shouldn't this be just Sanriku Coast, not Coastline? Jpatokal (talk) 09:43, 14 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

This is a good question.

This specific title is used for this article because someone else used this wording at Tohoku region. In other words, I clicked on a red link.

It appears that "coastline" may be preferred, but I don't know why one synonym is perceived as better than the other -- compare, e.g., Sanriku Coastline/Kamaishi Daikannon at Japan-i and Saw-tooth Sanriku Coastline (三陸リアス式海岸, Sanriku-riasushiki-kaigan) at Nippon-Kichi. --Tenmei (talk) 17:17, 14 March 2011 (UTC) Reply

A "coastline" (海岸線) is the thin strip where land meets sea, while a "coast" (海岸) is the broader area near the coastline. Coast thus seems to fit better with the Japanese 三陸海岸, and it's used about 2x more on Google as well. Jpatokal (talk) 05:18, 15 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
