Does anyone know who was the actual author of the lyrics of the songs? 82.29.215.250 19:46, 28 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Presumably Barry Took and Marty Feldman, the scriptwriters.Sjwells53 (talk) 17:00, 2 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, they wrote the vast amount of the material, based upon traditional folk songs. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 10:09, 13 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

The 'made up' words edit

It was stated in the article that Willams made many of the words up. This is not true as it is well known that he took many terms from the 50s gay secret language and brought them into the mainstream. He would later say that he found it highly amusing to find the bitterest of anti gay men using terms that were part of a gay language. The most famous of these gay words is NAFF which meant not available for fucking. There are literally dozens of other words and phrases which have enetered every day language due to Williams. The language itself died out when homosexuality was legalised in the 60s. I believe the language was called palatay or something similar. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.101.22.20 (talk) 11:03, 25 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

The term is polari.Sjwells53 (talk) 17:00, 2 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

No question that polari was slyly used on the Round the Horne show in the Julian and Sandy bits -- but the made-up words in the "Syd Rumpo" vocab are, I believe, all his own. Clevelander96 (talk) 16:20, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Indeed, there is no real evidence of polari being used in the song lyrics. These have largely been made up by Messrs Took, Feldman and Williams. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 10:09, 13 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Examples now on YouTube edit

Williams issued an LP at the time, which I actually bought. Clearly some copies still exist, as a number of his songs are now to be found on YouTube for anyone interested in listening. --MichaelGG (talk) 08:56, 31 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Links to a couple of these are now included in the 'External links' section. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 10:09, 13 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Article deletion/editing edit

In the wake of having seen this whole article deleted and turned into a redirect, I'd like to see discussion here as to how it could be improved. If any user feels that the deletion was appropriate, he or she should nominate it for deletion and it should undergo the proper discussion there. Clevelander96 (talk) 23:01, 6 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Having just recently happened upon this piece, I have undertaken a major restructuring of the article, by removing opinionated and unsourced text and, more importantly, adding in-line references for most of the material. It is far from perfect, and could benefit from some more reliable sources. Anyone who can assist, please do so. Thanks,
