Complaint edit

This reads like it was poorly translated from another language. Desperately in need of a rewrite. -216.138.38.86 16:41, 16 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rakuten selling stolen Wikipedia articles? edit

Can someone fluent in Japanese check out this article? [1]
Ulmanor (talk) 06:15, 18 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

This doesn't need to be a Japanese language source. It's alleging that Rakuten is selling an e-reader (Kobo Touch) that is including Wikipedia articles but with DRM, which would be in violation of the license Wikipedia articles are distributed under. Quoth Wikipedia:Text of Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License: "...when You Distribute or Publicly Perform the Adaptation, You may not impose any effective technological measures on the Adaptation that restrict the ability of a recipient of the Adaptation from You to exercise the rights granted to that recipient under the terms of the Applicable License." Seems like a technicality that is easily rectifiable. --Saledomo (talk) 11:45, 6 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Proposed merge with Voyagin edit

@SoWhy: I would note that the page was speedy deleted once as promotional with roughly the same content, though I respect your judgement. I would now suggest that since notability is not inherited by association and the page does little more than state the business exists and was sold, that this be merged with Rakuten, Inc. since they purchased Voyagein. 331dot (talk) 10:31, 22 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

@331dot: Fine with me. The association with the notable company is sufficient to demonstrate that an alternative to deletion, i.e. merging/redirecting, exists (remember kids, WP:ATD applies to all kinds of deletion  ). Declining the speedy does not mean the page has to stay after all. Regards SoWhy 10:35, 22 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Theodoric.: Hi there. I created the page as it is an established company that got a major buyout acquisition and is still growing and running. I would like to point out that the there are multiple Rakuten subsidiaries like like Viki that have pages https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viki_(website) and are very relevant on its own. The company Voyagin still runs as a separate entity from Rakuten and should have a standalone page, regarding adding more information to the page that will make it more relevant and informative is agreed.

@Theodoric.: I'm only dealing with the pages in front of me, but I would submit that the page you mention likely should be merged as well. 331dot (talk) 12:09, 22 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Did Rakuten die? edit

I am watching the Warriors-Celtics game, and the Warriors are wearing a Rakuten patch on the upper left strap of their jersey, just like when they wear the number of a former Warrior who has recently passed away. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:646:C403:F100:3897:ED66:4D7B:C024 (talk) 01:31, 17 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Extra carriage return edit

@YogarajCn, KarimKoueider, Keith D, Darkmorpher, Rich Farmbrough, Chris the speller, and Iridescent: Recent editors: Can anyone figure out why there is an extra carriage return at the bottom of the article? I've checked and can't find a cause. —DocWatson42 (talk) 12:06, 25 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

I removed some trailing whitespace, it seems snugger now. All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 12:10, 25 February 2019 (UTC).Reply
@Rich Farmbrough: Thank you. That did it, and the edit history explains why I didn't find it—it was at the end of a category link [sigh]. —DocWatson42 (talk) 13:50, 25 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Possible EL: Video from CNBC edit

I found CNBC made a video about Rakuten competing with Amazon:

Request Edit - Rakuten Marketing is now Rakuten Advertising edit

Rakuten Marketing is now called Rakuten Advertising. Please consider changing all mentions of "Rakuten Marketing" to "Rakuten Advertising." [1]

Annabelle Smyth ````

Partly done: As 'Rakuten Marketing' is only mentioned in events prior to 2020, it is accurate to describe it as such. I have added a sentence under 'Acquisitions and investments' regarding the name change. Sdrqaz (talk) 00:37, 30 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Acquisitions and investments edit

The section on acquisitions and investments is way to long and reads promotional with many buzzwords. I created a standalone page for List of acquisitions by Rakuten. Goal is to remove the majority of what is in this page and move it to the List. We can then add a simple paragraph on this page about acquisitions and link out to the list, similar to List of acquisitions by Sony, List of acquisitions by Disney, or List of acquisitions by Electronic Arts. I was working on it my userspace but made it live so hopefully others can jump in if they're willing. --CNMall41 (talk) 05:56, 27 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
